  1. Bungie are stunning The same day the article was posted, I received two emails from Bungieemployees (one from Lukems, the other from Frankie) expressing thedesire to help fix the situation. Despite the fact that Bungie hadabsolutely nothing to do with what happened, they wanted to help makethings right with Nathaniel. A large box packed full of Halo swagarrived on Nathaniel’s doorstep yesterday afternoon. It took Bungie sixdays total to gather numerous goodies, pack them up, ship it off, andhave it arrive at his house. The quickness in which they responded isabsolutely astounding. Bungie goes above and beyond with their fanseach and every day, but this time they truly outdid themselves. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  2. This being an election year (in the U.S. anyway), I thought it might be beneficial to exploit the timing; while political issues are (somewhat) on people's minds. There is an online political game called 'Nation States', and there are a few niners playing. We rule a region named Channel9. The basic point of the game is to create a nation and rule it by passing laws. Different laws have different consequences. We would love to have any new (or old) niners join up. http://www.nationstates.net/72034/page=display_region/region=channel9 /Not Spam More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Working to get the SxSW Ice Cube concert streamed live in Silverlight, I've gotten to know Mio and Randy at iStreamPlanet.* Because of their expertise in streaming live events to the web, Microsoft contracts with them to do many live events like the Mix keynotes.* I sat down with them at Mix between sessions to understand what it takes to get video streamed live to the web to be played in Silverlight. 9. So my last semi-unique idea turned out to be already done. So here's a new one: In the spirit of RegexLib.com and Pinvoke.net, how about a massive library/database of algorithms for use in CS and Mathematics, using the wiki format, of course: crowdsourcing ftw. Whilst there is currently one such database, it was last updated in 1996... and uses antiquated*green-on-black. The only alternative is just a massive dictionary. I reckon it would be a great resource for CS students and the like. It would give a plain-english overview, a psuedo-code implementation,*examples in whatever language, and links/references to source papers, documents, etc. Wikipedia's already good for this sort of thing, but it's hard to find what you're after. What do you guys reckon, hit or miss? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  13. I love my Vista 64 bit, it runs smoothly and fast, I don't have any problems with it. I use Visual Studio 2008 and it just works... Great... Sometimes I have to connect to my workplace from my home to do some work, my*employeer uses Cisco and I should use*the Cisco VPN client on my Vista machine to connect. Cisco has released a VPN client that works on Vista, but - big supprise - it does not work on Vista 64 bit! Excuse me, but how hard can it be? Vista has been out more than a year now. So in order to connect to my workplace I have to start an XP virtual pc and connect through it. How stupid is that? Am I the only one with this problem? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  17. For me the spam button seems to be working well -- spam posts are getting flagged pretty fast. The initial arguments have died down between those whose definitions of spam differed and everyone now seems fairly happy. Are we all happy? I know some have complained about still seeing the spam post on the front page, but personally it doesn't bother me; they'll drop away in due course. I'm in no rush. I've noticed that the spam content is still present in the RSS feeds, but I guess this is harder to change -- how long do you delay a post from the RSS feed before you can be sure it's not spam?* For me it's not a big problem, but I access the CoffeeHouse mainly though the web page, rather than through a newsreader. Overall, I think it's working.* What does everyone else think? Herbie More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  20. Engadget reports that Wal-Mart is pulling the gPC from its stores. The Linux-based machines will still be available through online sales, which the company says were 'considerably more effective' Although the company did sell all its stock, it decided that the gPC wasn't what its customeres were looking for. Of course 'completely sold out' is a good thing, but really depends on how many you had in stock in the first place. If Wal-Mart treated this as an experiment, was there enough marketing behind it? Or do folk really expect to get a Windows machine when they buy from Wal-Mart? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  25. For the Internet Explorer 8 Beta, we’ve added an Emulate IE7 button to the command bar. It will help you with everyday browsing and with quickly checking your site as you work on it. http://ieblog.members.winisp.net/images/Emulate.IE7.png Everyday Browsing If you’re having trouble on a site that you’d like to browse, try the Emulate IE7 button. This causes IE8 to use the IE7 user agent string, version vector and layout modes. Also, we’re interested in webpage problems so report them using the IE8 Beta Feedback tools. Developer configurations When you’re working on your pages, the combination of the Emulate IE7 button and the Developer Toolbar opens up a few more options for you. The starting options are: Default: Internet Explorer reports the IE8 user agent string and use the IE8 layout modes Emulate IE7 pressed: Internet Explorer reports the IE7 user agent string and uses the IE7 layout modesOnce you get the user agent string reporting the way you like, you can use the IE8 developer tools to force IE’s layout mode to Quirks, IE7 Standards or IE8 Standards.
