  7. I was wondering if there is anyway to down cast a generic interface? What I whant to do is something like this, I have an interface like this interfaceMyInterface { ** T GetValue (); } and in code I would like some generic code*to do something like this: MyStringClass : MyInterface MyStringClass sc = new MyStringClass () ; ... ... if (sc is MyInterface) { ** MyInterface*dc = (MyInterface )sc ; ***object o = dc.GetValue () ; } I'm pretty sure that I can't do this and it would be best to add a second non generic interface that does the cast for me. Any comments? Cheers, Stephen. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  8. He is according to Mary Jo Foley. And it seems to be coming on the back of a fairly serious marketing reorganisation at Microsoft. Meanwhile, Apple show how it's done; taking down their whole website to launch what will probably be a fairly minor product update. You've got to hand it to 'em. If anyone else did this, then developers would be offering to fix their site so that new products could be added without rebooting the servers ... :) More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  9. Ok. Up till this point, i have been clearly pro vista. But to be frankly honest, im not so sure anymore. There's a lot of cool features, like the search function directly in the start menu. And that, is about the only feature, im gonna miss considerably, if i drop Vista. On the other hand, i wont miss this: Boot your PC. Takes 1 minute to reach login screen. Log in. Wait 30 secondes. Open 3-4 programs you wanna use. Go out for 5 minutes, and wait for it all to load. When you first start loading 1 application, the rest of the system freezes. Thats right. When you first boot, its HORRIBLE. Superfetch? Yeah, it just didnt load the applications i wanna use into memory. In fact, it takes considerably more time to open applications on boot, than XP. The system is easily slown down. And you get hell when that happens. Im honestly feeling like giving it the benefit of the doubt, until Sp1 is out. But im not sure i can justify staying with Vista. How many switched back to XP yet?****** In general, performance on Vista isnt More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  15. Hi there. I have a function written in JavaScript like function showZipWindow(obj, key) { * var id = obj.id; * if (typeof(key)=="undefined") * { **** key = 0; * } * tid = 't'+id.substr(1,id.length); * hid = 'h'+id.substr(1,id.length); * zipWind = window.open('zipWindow.php?tid='+tid+'&hid='+hid+'&key='+key,'zipWnd'+key, 'left=20,top=20,width=600,height=650,toolbar=1,resizable=1'); } When i'm calling it from main window - it works fine, creating popup. But when i'm calling it from popup (which is created by the same function but with different values for parameters) in IE 6/7 it gives me "Uknown runtime error". In Firefox it works okay. So, any clues on how is it possible to get it running on IE 6/7 or is there anything wrong in my code? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  19. One for AndyC: Whilst logging into my LAN's OWA, I was wondering if there was any way to enable some kind of two-factor authentication since OWA is pretty suspectible to keystroke logging. So a quick googling for two-factor authentication for OWA and IIS led me to RSA's world-(in)famous? SecurID agent software page for IIS. Apparently it's free (beer) ware. Interesting. Of course, none of this is much use unless you've got a token to go with it. I imagine those things cost a fair bomb, but I wondered if RSA made a version of their token software for Windows Mobile. And hey, what do you know, free beer too. Yet I have the inescapable feeling I'm missing something here. Is there some kind of central authentication server RSA SecurID needs that costs said bomb? If so, reckon I can get it off bittorrent? :D More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  25. Alright, global warming has some 'splaining to do... Since some others (who often beat the anti-global warming drum until it breaks) haven't chimed in... It's been reported ( msnbc article ) that China is facing one of it's coldest winters in 100 years. Their record keeping for this stat is the total number of consecutive days where the average tempreture is 0 degrees Celcius or lower. I wonder what spin this is going to receive so that it is undeniable proof for global warming (as the current model and scientists put it) and not showing that we know jack about climates and prediction models for climates are incomplete and running on a bunch of assumptions. Whether or not global warming is real, or even climate change is occuring is really a moot point. I can't help but feel sorry for the masses of people stuck while traveling in China when winter struck back with a vengence. Also, the US has been hit hard with winter storms, cold temperatures, and the like. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
