  2. Using MessageQueue to communicate with SQL server for Navision to send orders, I send the order and the response is an order number. Sometimes*the server doesn't have enough to time respond so I have no way of knowing if the order got in or not. Using ASP.NET it all happens in a split second, is there anyway to use some sort of delay and wait for the response from the server or any other way I should do this? More... 15. Left Vs. Right is a Political Search Engine powered by Live Search designed by and for Political junkies, ready for 2008 American Presidential Elections. Works best when the search queries are political in nature. You can also filter your results through blue or Red filter. Just check the Left (Patrick) or Right(Britt) Search on. Once the color filer is activated, the query results will be drawn exclusively from news sources aligned with that color's political ideology. Just keep it idle or during the search, watch the funny moments. Left Vs. Right - Political Search Engine powered by Live Search More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  19. Not everyone are prepared to admit the obvious, but types are helpful. But where is the world of types moving? I like the notion of duck typing (and structural typing) as apparently found in VB9 (not a VB user). Structural typing is a pretty powerful notion, although it could perhaps be considered somewhat hazzardous. I'd like to be able to do the same in C# as well, saying something like "interface IDemand { Some thing(); }" and "void use(relaxed IDemand it) ...". Then there's pattern matching (a wonderful concept), where a value is structurally matched on the set of possible values of the type. In C# there are enum's and switches, but enum's are like plancton in the ocean of types - not that powerful, can only define primitive values, can't be recursive and can't be type-parametric/generic and can't be used to guarantee exhaustive matching (case-checks). The F# pendent, Discriminated Unions, does have this added power. A separate discussion is how far C# can be evolved before the added formalisms start making the language an ugly mixed bag, as opposed to a choherent language of synergistic constructs as in C# 3.0. Where do you see C#, CIL, and other languages going in the future, with respect to typing? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  20. Hi guys My primary product at the moment is epos software for bars and restaurants. The next part of the software package I need to design is a way for waiters to use PDA's to take orders and send the orders back to the epos terminals. Each terminal exposes a WCF service, so that is how I plan to communicate, but I have the following choices about how I do this. 1> Write an app using .netCF 2.0 that communicates with the epos terminals over web services? This obviously has the disadvantage that it for whatever reason a epos terminal needs to contact the PDA, it cant, because in web services, there is no return path. 2> Write the app so that it is a ASP.net application that runs on one of the terminals. This means that the PDA's don't need any installation, but then I need to consider how to get IE on the pda into full screen and keep it that way, and also, it is not guaranteed that the ePOS terminals will have IIS installed, so I would need to look at something like Cassini (?) 3> Write the app using .netCF 3.5, so that I can expose a wcf service on the PDA as well, therefore allowing bidirectional comms. Do any of you guys have any feedback on my thoughs above, or indeed have any better ideas on how I can achieve this? Thanks More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  22. During my interveiw... Them: So how much experience do you have with Java? Me: None, I have experience with Javascript, however that's not the same... Them: Right, so what else do you know? Me: Well for about 5 years I've been coding in .NET, HTML, CSS, XML, and Javascript with PHP and MySQL.... Them: OK, well thanks..we'll be back in touch with you. Yesterday was my the end of my first week...and now I've been asked to write some Java code to do some pretty heavy duty stuff...I'll be able to handle it..just thought it was awkward that despite the 100% definition that I don't have any Java background they hired me.
