  8. So I'm working on some project for Windows Mobile using GAPI (I'm after WM2003 support, so using DirectDraw Mobile is out of the question). Anyway, I'll be needing to render type and using bitmapped fonts or 8-bit era sprites for text is waay out. I'm after some smooth effects here. Yet, such as it is, Windows CE's GDI cannot work with GAPI (so I can't get it to render type) and GAPI just provides raw access to the framebuffer, no DrawText function or anything. Can anyone recommend a good type rendering library? I'm thinking of releasing this project under GPL when it's done, so stuff like T2 is useable. OpenType support is also a plus. No need for postscript though. Speed is also very important, as is CPU usage. More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds

  10. What's the purpose of a Service Pack? That's to improve the stability of the product over what was initially shipped, so why not remove the shipped product replace with a new improved one in the right time? Make mistakes is necessary for us to continue the upgrades, or a chance to fix it, that chance or upgrades is also another chance to make money. Save money and resources, WinXP is good enough for these years, Don't fix the perfect bugs, just let it go with time. to Microsoft, VS2003*also know as VS2002 Service Pack is a successful case, here is another successful case. Today(2008), we all knew Intel Pentium 4 with NetBurst contains some design defects that cause the speed so slow, is it means Intel should release a 'Service Pack' to fix these defects of P4 product family? Absoultely not, they was shipped a new product with Core architecture to kill their own product, it's a tough decision to them, but they know they have to do. More... 24. A couple of weeks ago, we announced that an optional preview for the Internet Explorer Automatic Component Activation was coming in early December, and I’m happy to say that it is now available. Read Knowledge Base article 945007 for full details, along with links to the specific downloads for each operating system. If you don’t recall, in April 2006, we made a change to how Internet Explorer handled embedded controls used on some webpages. Some sites required users to “click to activate” before they could interact with the control. Microsoft has now licensed the technologies from Eolas Technologies inc, removing the “click to activate” requirement in Internet Explorer. This change will require no modifications to existing web pages, and no new actions for developers creating new pages. We are simply reverting to the old behavior. Once Internet Explorer is updated, all pages that currently require “click to activate” will no longer require the control to be activated. They’ll just work. The preview we are shipping today will not be widely distributed to users unless they download and install it. This preview is for customers to test this upcoming behavior before it is widely distributed in the April 2008 Internet Explorer Cumulative Update where all customers who install the update will get the change. Thanks, PEte LePage Product Manager PS: The IE VPC images have been updated with a new expiry of April 1, 2008, and can be found on the Microsoft Download Center. http://blogs.msdn.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=6730639 More...
