So where is it? It looks like they forgot the rest of the world (or at least the UK)? I'm running beta 2 right now but I'd like to move to the RTM and ideally get work to BUY it.. I was waiting on the buying presuming they had RTM but not officially released yet, but when I visit the VS home I get told to download the beta 2.. More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds

Thought with the recent videos on Fsharp accross Channel 9 and it sister site 8 you guys might find this interesting: http://undev.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!6526A337A687E45D!140.entry I am still reserving my opinion on whether F# is really useful. I see a lot of paralells with other languages. Not comfortable enough with some the idioms to prefer them over C#s. Yes I miss curley braces. More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds

Hi folks. Hopefully this is the right forum channel for this. I'm a South African 9er and bandwidth is really an issue over here. Is there any chance some really kind soul over there could re-encode some of your larger videos and offer low bandwidth alternatives? I am really keen to watch some of your "Behind the Code" videos, yet both I considered downloading were 1GB in size. If quality is really a concern at lower bitrates, perhaps dropping the resolution by half would be an acceptable alternative. Anyway, I have really enjoyed a few of the smaller video files I've been able to download, and want to say "keep up the good work!". This site has really done a good job of putting a human face to Microsoft. Thanks. More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds

on XP I could set autoplay to always launch the picasa auto-importing utility to import all the images from my cameras and phones on my PC and such setting was saved only for those devices. on Vista instead I can only set autoplay not for each device but for kinds of media instead. if I chose an autoplay setting for images it will be used for anything, including cdroms and removable usb memsticks that most of the times contain images I don't want to import because I already have them or just don't need. is there any workaround for this messy behaviour or am I doomed to having to rely on commercial 3rd-party programs like DL pro or end up disabling autoplay for removable/cdrom drives? We're working on optimising our software to work over a very slow WAN connection (using Citrix), but we're having trouble testing because we can't get the connections slow enough :s When we connect to our customers site, the connection (even out here in the countryside) is faster that some of our customer's connections (way, way out in the countryside). We have a local Citrix server on our network, so I want to throttle the connection speed back to make it as painfully slow as some of our customers. There are quite a lot of shareware network throttlers out there so I wondered if anyone here had a recommendation. Free would be good, too :D Herbie More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds

I've not been able to find the answer to this anywhere yet. Does the EF support multiple databases in the same model/context? Using SQL Server 2005 and I have 5 databases on the same server that I need to join and query against. It seems to lock you into using 1 database for each Model. And you can't combine the models/contexts in a Linq query. I'm able to work around this same limitation with Linq to SQL by changing the datasource when adding a table and referencing the tables by full name "database.dbo.Table". Is there a way to do the same with EF? More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds

activation for hardware is worse... Yesterday, our company decided to update the OS (or firmware I would say, as it said on the "settings" page) of a S-brand hardware firewall. Before starting, we exported the settings to a file. And then we also downloaded "current firmware with backup settings" to the machine. After upload the new firmware and reboot the box, it loses it's all current settings and reverted to factory defaults. When we try login using the default password and upload the exported settings, it said the settings file is corrupted. Then we try to upload the "current firmware with backup settings" image to the box, but the upload page said we should have entered the registration code before update the firmware. (Before the hardware is first use, we have to go to the company's website and use the serial number plus authentication code to get the registration code) However, when we enter the code at the website, it said the serial number has already been registered. The worse thing is that, the staff who should have registered this box have leaved the company long ago - long enough that we had deleted his mailbox for ages... Then I figured that I should take a look at the exported settings file, as by chance it could be saved in easily recognizable format. Fortunately it's format is not difficult to be recognized so I can write a little program to extract the registration code out. We inputted the reg. code, uploaded the "current firmware with backup settings" file, everything restored, happy ending. However if we cannot figure the registration code out in the end, we'd waste a good piece of hardware for no acceptable reason, and we'd be in trouble. Moral of the story: Don't take for granted that if you had backup before update, you'll be fine. Never update critical hardware unless it is absolutely necessary. More... could somebody please try to reproduce this? just make a sfx archive bigger than 4gb with winrar and try deleting it to see if it works or not (it can't be deleted from explorer or command prompt) I've seen this happening on 3 PCs with almost nothing installed but I don't know if I installed something that messed up vista or if it's just one of the many vista bugs More... Yup. The feature-list in Wife2.0 is substantially more complete than1.0. Not to mention the new skin! Woooo (She's Brazilian - get it,"skin"?) Hehe. This version supports internationalization andmulti-lingual user-interfaces. It breaks less and works more than 1.0.It serves the user rather than forcing the user to serve it, like allgood software should! I feel sorry for the poor fella who gotmy 1.0 version. That thing was littered in bugs, and there was norecovery-disk either, which means no format/clean-install... SoI'm downloading the 2.0 update right now. At this rate, I'll have itfinished installing and functioning in about 6 months. Only thing is,it has a proximity-senor which requires it to be ran from Florida, soI'll have to relocate their to get full satisfactory output from theapplication. I've been using the Demo of 2.0 for a few monthsnow. It doesn't come with all of the functionality...the great featuresare only available to owners of the license http://sampsonresume.com/boards/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif But I'm really enjoying its seemless-integration with my current configuration and environment. It also works well with vista. http://sampsonresume.com/boards/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif http://sampsonresume.com/boards/download/file.php?id=6 More... View All Our Microsft Related Feeds
