When I was on a crummy wi-fi with speed under 400 I did notice a crisper jump from one site to another maybe a second or so. Now that I am home where I get a crummy 1700 I really can't measure the difference at all. But unless I am missing something it seems that IE gives better control over cookies and Firefox gives more information then just a status bar.

Since I have been stuck in a hotel with a really slow wi-fi connection I have taken some time to play with both browsers and I believe that while I noticed very little difference at home there seems firefox seems to be noticeably faster under these conditions. I also like the fact that instead of just a status bar it seems to inform what stage it is at when there is a slow opening url. What I am not sure of is the settings. In IE7 I have selected a medium high seting that seems to block most third part cookies. In firefox the choice seems to be to allow or disallow 3rd party cookies. What would I lose, if anyhting, by simply clicking disallow? Thanks.

Just a quick one. I just heard on CNN US that our man Joe is now considering running for congress. Bet he'll be a "maverick" you betcha!!! Having watched everything going on here all McCain had to do to win is get rid of Sarah Palin and replace her with Tina Fey. A definite upgrade!!! -
Thanks for the reply. I didn't uninstall first although probably should have. I installed over the original installation that was probably several years old. Although I was in a rush I was careful to make sure that I downloaded directly from the adobe site. As of right now I have not shut down the machine since I posted this simply because I do not want to take a chance of losing the use while away on business. I wll tonight and see if there is a problem when I start it up. MSConfig seems the same as where I left it. The only things unchecked are items that I did deliberatly and some time ago. I will let you know if this continues or just a one or two off quirk. Thanks again

Hello and Thanks in advance. I am away in The States on business. The other day I tried to download a PDF form from a very reputable shipping company that I use. Since Adobe Reader (I think it was 6) indicated that a file was missing. I just decided that I may as well download the newest version and I had no problem with the form after that. However, related or not, the last 2 times I started the computer it did not seem to load properly. There were fewer than normal icons on the taskbar and any network reference was missing. I went into My Computer to see what it said about networks and it stalled. Task manager showed it as not responding. I did a restart and everything came up fine and everything was working. I know this happened once before the other day and I am not sure if I had a normal startup in between as I am not that focused on the problem. I have not had this before but normally I let the laptop hybernate when I am home and rarely do a starup from nothing. Any thought on why this may be happening and wht I should do about it will be appreciated. I may not be able to reply as quickly as normal.

MY base is the one that you see far off in the distance if you think that I am any sort of religious apologist. & you aint gonna draw me in!!! -
SORRY GUYS!!! I found it under tools where it defaulted downloads to desktop and changed it to always ask me. Odd that the original download did not actually show on the desktop or I would have noticed it.

Got it done BUT. I went back to the site to redownlaoad firetune at least to see where I amy have gone wrong. I told it to save and a small window opened in the browser showing both the present installation and the one I did before. I did not get the usual window I am used to asking me where I want to save the file. That is something I do not like because I save these things to a specific folder all the time. Anyhow I cllicked to go to the containg folder (which by the way has a winrar icon because it is the only extracter that I have at the moment.) I clicked to extract here and wound up wiht about 2 dozen files on my Desktop. (I know how to handle that so it is an annoyance not a problem.) Is there something I am missing about saving downloads in Firefox because all that has me really confused and thinking that it may be more bother then it is worth.

That is what I normally would do. I have no idea what happened but have searched several time so somehow I must have canceled the download or it just likes to play hide and go seek. I will just learn firefox first.

Hotspot Virtual Machine????

I just happened to look at my desktop and found a new notepad item that just appeared by itself. It was quite long but this is the jist of it # # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x7c9010e6, pid=2672, tid=3788 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot Client VM (1.5.0-b64 mixed mode) # Problematic frame: # C [ntdll.dll+0x10e6] I see it has something to do with Java. I did go to the NY Times Crossword page for the Sunday puzzle (using IE7 my only browser at the time of the entry) and it always shows the little java icon but I do not use java to play a puzzle. I have no idea what Hotspot Virtual Machine is and I certainly did not save anything to the desktop. -

That's the problem Bob, I searched for it and it came up empty. Normally when I download a program I save it and then install it myself. (I don't know why I do that except that someone once told me it is safer so it can be scanned etc.) This time I just elected to run it and windows regarding winrar came up that I have never seen before. Just tried another search and nothing.
