Hi, thanks for the good wishes and the same to you for the new year. I think I can see the problem, do you know the make, model, and maximum watts of your power supply please? If possible a picture of the label on the power supply would be great! Just to confirm my suspicions, could you please download and install "Speedfan" from here :- http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php Once installed, open it and run it, again after a period of running the computer. Again be watchful for unwanted extra's. Please post a screen shot showing the voltages. Although temperatures are showing a little warm, they are not excessive, however the 12 volt rail is showing a lot too low and it is possible that under load the voltage could be dropping even lower, hence why so many different and unconnected fault reports, it really depends on which process is in use at the time the voltage drops, so that process reports a fault. On a different forum that I visit, a member there had similar problems to yours which after fitting a new power supply all was OK again. Nev.

Hi Graham, unfortunately that doesn't tell me a lot only that there have been faults but not what caused them. I would like to see a Speccy report, if you already have Speccy installed follow the second part, if not please download and install Speccy from here :- http://www.piriform.com/speccy You only need the free version, and best to download directly from Piriform. During the installation process, read carefully every box or window you are presented with, if given the choice of a Custom install use that one. Anything offered as extra, remove ticks fro the boxes, all you need is Speccy itself. The other stuff such as tool bars, security scans and other junk is just that, useless junk. Secondly, once Speccy is installed, start a game and run it for a while, then open Speccy and give it a a short time to analyse everything, then click on "File" top left of the Speccy window and select "Publish Snapshot" Follow instructions and it will give you a URL address, please copy and paste that into your next reply. I would take the new board out completely and as Ken suggested check the stand off's and compare them with the fixing holes on the motherboard, there is a slight chance that there is a stand off with no corresponding hole in the board. It may have been used for the old board, however a modification in design of the new board may now finish up with a circuit track shorting to it. If that is what you find, remove that now redundant stand off. Nev.

Whatever you do today it will be the first time this year you have done it, so try not to do anything wrong. Happy new year all.

Multi room sound from PC (Solved)
Plastic Nev replied to ddp's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
This might be due to impedance problems, the amplifier input may be too high or too low for the speaker output port on the computer. Try the amplifier connected instead to the headphone port on the computer, that one is usually set up for higher impedance. Also which input port did you use on the amplifier? If it has one, I would say to use "line in" and not a microphone input. In fact if there is a line in on the amplifier, then use the line out port on the computer. Let us know what happens please. Having just looked, my set up is set for normal and not high, don't know what difference it makes though as I saw nothing different when trying the high mode. Nev.

Seems to be a good bit kit from these reviews, though one guy does mention you will need an optical connection cable as it isn't supplied, also if wanting blue tooth connectivity, better going for the next higher numbered model, you will see that in these reviews though. http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B00BYWFB16 Best of luck with it JB, Nev.

Thanks for letting us know Tim and very handy knowledge to have. This actually sounds similar to printer and scanner set up issues, as you found, the hardware must not be connected till prompted to do so. Nev. -
[Solved] no boot no post no beeps
Plastic Nev replied to matt1295's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
OK Matt, thanks for letting us know, and come back when you are ready, no rush when you have medical stuff going on, that is more important than a computer. Also all the best with it and if we don't see you before, all the best for the new year too. Nev. -
Because it's Christmas, or at least it was JB. I think they look just right drifting past that Santa picture. Nev.

[Solved] no boot no post no beeps
Plastic Nev replied to matt1295's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. You haven't mentioned the hard drive and there may be a problem getting Windows to boot with the new motherboard, however we can get to that after we can get something to happen. As you say, other than the hard drive there is only the RAM and CPU, and a bit of a shame the RAM is only one stick, so the only sure way is to either find a compatible computer and try the RAM in that, or replace it. The other thing being the CPU are you quite sure it fitted the socket,OK, while it was out did you make sure there were no bent pins or pins missing? I.E. maybe one broke and left inside the old socket! The fact that it all died just after an update, makes me a little suspicious of the hard drive though. So I suggest that you disconnect it both power leads and data, and leave the rest on, including keyboard and monitor, then push the power button and straight away start tapping the F2 key, (if that is the one for the BIOS) and lets see if it will at least get some BIOS pages load. Let us know how you get on with that. Nev. -
Thanks Quirkie, and hope you had a good Christmas yourself. It was nice and quiet for me, however right at this moment the snow on the forum is appropriate as it is snowing quite heavily outside here, so a bit late for the white Christmas.

[Solved] MS Office 2007 recovery
Plastic Nev replied to TrevWhatmore's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, if however you do not have the original installation disk, unfortunately although data, music, pictures, video, etc can be transferred to another computer, installed programs cannot. However, you can try connecting the hard drive to another computer, hopefully of the similar operating system. If you search the connected (As external) hard drive for the desktop folder, then click or double click the office icon, it may launch and run from the now external hard drive. if it will run, it may be a little slower in operation. I have found some programs will run off an externally connected drive so you may be lucky with it. If however it doesn't show up on the desktop folder, you won't be able to run it so you will need to install from the original disk. Nev. -
Wishing every one the same. http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/14/68/69/96/merry_10.jpg

How to Check Your WiFi is Secure
Plastic Nev replied to timberland's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Where did you put that address? It should be in the address bar of your browser, granted this below is Firefox, but the red arrow shows where. http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/14/68/69/96/router10.jpg The password box may be different if your router is a different make, but that is all you should see. [ Solved ]Sata to Pata Adapter.

Thanks from me too for the feedback and glad we could help. Once you learn the ins and outs of that EasUS partition manager, it is a wonderful program for sorting partitions out as to how you want them. Nev. -
Hi, one thing we don't yet know is which operating system do you have installed on the hard drive? Next question has to be, have you a means of connecting the hard drive to your other computer, just so you can check out that the hard drive is still OK and not become a domino of the motherboard failure. Thirdly, and the reason for asking which operating system is the fact that Windows itself is fussy about the hardware, especially the motherboard. If you change like for like, then there will be no problem, however if a much different motherboard, Windows might refuse to boot. The older Windows XP was especially so, however Windows Vista and Windows 7, aren't quite as fussy and may allow a motherboard slightly higher in spec and is a board based on the original. With a major motherboard change and difference it can mean reinstalling Windows with consequent loss of all your data as a worst case situation. Nev.

Hi, as a pre check, I have now tried to download the HAV tool to check my own system, and tried twice, in both cases it couldn't download as it reported the source file could not be found. (Try again later) Ideally that tool should be run to find out if your processor will work with the virtual XP Mode. If you also find the same problem, you can still go ahead and download the virtual XP mode. However you might just find that the virtual XP mode either won't install, or if it does it might not work due to not having the right processor, or the processor isn't set up in the BIOS. Thought it best to let you know as a just in case. Nev.

OK, it certainly looks to be the motherboard died, first check before taking the board out, (You will have to any way) Have a look at all the metal canistered capacitors, any showing bulges on the tops or signs of chemical leakage underneath? Blown capacitors is one of the known causes of failure, usually damaging many other components so not worth trying to repair. If there are signs of that, or burn outs, at least you know what caused it, even if it means a new motherboard. Nev.

Hi try that check on Kens link as it just might be something such as a major fail of for example the CD drive which if gone short circuit, it will hold all the power off. However, if that check proves that nothing happens after doing the disconnections and therefore is the motherboard, once the board is out, check the circuit tracks round the base of the main power connector. I have heard of the connection to one of the pins burning through. It was fixed with some careful cleaning and soldering. Nev.

OK, If you are sure the PSU is OK, next thing to check is the RAM memory, I assume there is more than one stick or card of memory, so first remove all of them, then put one back in and try it and see if it will boot up, if not, take that one out and try the next till all have been tried. You didn't say if all fans start up, can you answer that one please. Let us know what you find. Nev.

[ Solved ]Sata to Pata Adapter.
Plastic Nev replied to Bringe's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Bringe, sorry to say that those files that don't work, the video and JPG files must be too badly damaged, possibly by being partially overwritten so I don't think you can go much further with them. The drive itself I am not sure about, how did you format it? Ken may have some idea's as to why it is only showing 55GB if we know what method you used to do the format. Nev. -
Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Can you please tell us the make and model of your computer if a manufactured one, or if a custom built one the motherboard, power supply, processor and anything else you know about it. Also is this a desktop computer or tower type, or is it a laptop? With initial thoughts and information, there could be any one of several problems, however first to check will be the power supply. Although lights are showing, are any fans running? Power supplies have several different output voltages so it could be the lower voltage section that may have blown. Are you at ease working inside the computer and of course taking anti static and other safety precautions? Nev.
