[ Solved ]Sata to Pata Adapter.
Plastic Nev replied to Bringe's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Great news Bringe and hope the rest of it all works out OK. Thanks for the update and let us know if it does all work out OK. Nev. -
No point going for third party driver downloads when you should be able to get what you need from here Mike, always best to get drivers from the manufacturer and not third party stuff as you just might get bad or out of date drivers. http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/P5ND/HelpDesk_Download/ I would reckon you don't need the BIOS ones at the top of the list, you should only need the Chipset, Audio, utilities, and SATA, though the last one might be covered by the Windows 7 generic drivers. You can also download the motherboard manual from there which will tell you which you would need for a new motherboard, but more importantly in which order the drivers should be installed. Normally it should be the chipset first. Nev.

[ Solved ]Sata to Pata Adapter.
Plastic Nev replied to Bringe's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Though I don't like saying it, most free versions of paid for software, whatever the purpose, are nearly always a bit basic in comparison to the main one. It may well come to having to bite the bullet and pay the $70 I am afraid. We do always recommend the free stuff where available as in a lot of cases it is quite often all that is needed. However not always! Nev. -
Sorry to be so late, however I hope you had a good birthday on Saturday Ken. (Been off line for near three days is why I missed this! )

Thanks DSTM for that link. :D I looked at the link myself and with that one there are two choices, however I think the first would be the one to try Jim. See how that goes first, and if still no good, you shouldn't come to grief trying the second. I am short of time right now, however I will post tomorrow how to post screen shots on here, 'tis a little complicated at first, but once you have done one it becomes easier. Nev.

I tend to agree it looks a better deal, if you can find the same model cheaper on for example Amazon, or other dealer, would of course be better still. Also, as Ken said on the other thread he has now locked, please lets keep all discussion here on this thread. It only gets confusing for everybody when more than one thread is being used and can lead to wrong or conflicting advice from members who may not be aware there is more than one discussion on the same subject. Your other thread regarding the sale of the old laptop is fine as that is a different subject. Hope you understand, Nev.

[Solved] Pop-up prevents printing a pdf file
Plastic Nev replied to blkbrd37's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, I now see from CHF, that you have resolved this problem. Is that correct? Nev. -
Hi Jim, unfortunately I am not familiar with the VIA sound systems at all, and can find little in the way of settings instructions. If you could show us some screen shots of various control panel windows it might help. If a simple setting in the Realtek system can make things work, there surely must be something similar in the VIA system. Nev.

[Solved] Pop-up prevents printing a pdf file

Hi, that sounds like it was a previous print job that wasn't finished or fully carried out. Can you tell us the full name and model of the printer so we can find how to cancel that. Nev. -
Should I buy this Acer laptop??
Plastic Nev replied to LAPTOPDUNCE's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, the touch screen is the off putting thing about it and does add to the price. If you bought it I feel you would soon revert back to mouse and keyboard as the touch screen technology isn't that accurate in control, and does make your arms ache after some time of using it. See if you can find one without touch screen but similar specifications as otherwise for your intended use the rest of it isn't too bad, though personally I would like to see a processor speed a bit higher than the 1.7GHz. Which Printer Should I Buy?
Plastic Nev replied to suretisme's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I am currently using one of the Canon all in ones and find it isn't quite so greedy on ink, cheaper other brands of ink are available too, though cartridge prices for their own aren't much different to other makes. I did have a Kodak, however they have a separate print head so ink cartridges are quite a bit cheaper, however the print head failed with the black and the replacement cost of a new print head is not worth it, hence why I bought the Canon. So don't be tempted by the Kodak range just because inks are cheaper. Nev. -

Hi Bringe, this is another free file recovery program, unfortunately as yet we haven't had chance to evaluate it fully ourselves though one of our other staff is hoping to do so. It comes from a company the make a program uninstaller that I have tested and found to be pretty good, so hopefully their file recovery works just as well. http://www.wisecleaner.com/wisedatarecoveryfree.html We will be interested to know how successful you find it too please. will this XP laptop sell??
Plastic Nev replied to LAPTOPDUNCE's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It is best to wipe all the data with one of those types of tools, but try to stop it wiping the operating system, however, even if it does, you can sell it either with the disks and leave the buyer to worry, or reinstall Windows with the disks first. If your lucky, the buyer just might want it entirely cleaned as he or she might want to install one of the Linux systems. By the way, if using C.Cleaner, please do not ever use the registry cleaner side of it, registry cleaners can eventually wreck the registry and leave you with a useless system that will then have to be reinstalled. Hi, sorry, I should have mentioned in the stats for nerds, there are no settings you can alter, it is just an information page only. However, that one does show some differences for Db ratings, though nothing I can pin down as there are low and high readings for both types of video. I doubt there is any settings in your security as a block of any sort would block all Youtube flash video's, not just the sound on some. So I went searching to see if there was anything similar and if it had been cured. Ifound that it may just be the settings in the Realtek panel providing you do have realtek sound system, if it is set to anything other than stereo, say 5.1, it may be the cause and just for those video's it requires setting to stereo. This video here explains where the settings are and quite nicely, you don't need the sound as it is only music background, it is all done with labels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ApCrUaIeMk&feature=share Let us know if that was it Jim please as extra searching found the Realtek setting was a quite common problem. will this XP laptop sell??
Plastic Nev replied to LAPTOPDUNCE's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, on E bay it is a question that can only be answered by the bids you get. There may well be someone wanting an older laptop for whatever purpose suits them. On the other hand, there may be no bids at all due to its age. E Bay is to be quite honest a very unknown quantity, when absolute rubbish items sell for silly high prices, yet other perfectly useful and good stuff doesn't sell at all. Give it a try and see what happens in other words. The other option is any local second hand shop and ask what they will give you for it. I must also add, that for your own security that you make sure all personal data is securely removed from it before selling it. If you have the original disks that it came with to restore it back to factory settings, use them along with one of the many data destruction programs that are available, some are free to use and will securely write over and delete all personal stuff. Hi, to add my bit, without being a complete pain to the staff in say PC world, and go round asking to listen to every laptop on sale, I cannot say in any exact terms as to which make or model of laptop gives the best sound quality from its internal speakers. :D However, I did once have a Toshiba myself and agree the sound quality left a bit to be desired and that was an older XP laptop that I sold some time since. I now have an Acer Aspire running Windows 7 and can say the sound from that is actually quite good for a laptop so maybe the later Acer models will be hopefully as good. The best thing is perhaps have a good read of reviews of different makes and models and see what the reviewers say. Or as I said be a real pain in the b** to the staff in a local large retailer, and ask to hear all the models they have on sale. :D Best leave it at that before my sense of humour gets me in trouble. Hi Mike, that is OK about new posts for screen shots. However, looking at the last picture it is only showing the two disk drives in the list and not the Samsung hard drive. A little puzzling as it should be showing as being somewhere in the boot order, so not too sure if you are actually on the right BIOS page. I would normally say to put the disk in the drive that is now showing as top of the list, then press the F10 to save and exit, however without the hard drive showing I am concerned it won't find it to install windows on to it. I will see what Ken has to say first before going any further. Nev.

Hi Jim, all those do play OK for me, and cannot see any major differences between them and those others that do play for you. So, there may be some other odd setting on your computer and Flash player stopping the sound for you. So on a video or two that will play, right click anywhere in the middle of the picture, and then have a look firstly at "stats for nerds", then again look at "Settings", and then also "Global settings" Then do exactly the same with video's that will play the sound and see if you can find any setting differences. By the way, for "Settings", you will see this window opens, it has five different types of settings to check with an icon to click for each, as shown by the arrows. http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/14/68/69/96/check_10.jpg If you do see something different between those you can hear and those you can't, try changing the settings to match. Nev.

OK Jim, get things sorted at home and no worries, get back to us when you can. One thing that might be worth a try, just in case the present version is corrupted, would be to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player, and then download and install a fresh version. I Will still be around when you can get back to us, I won't run away just yet. :D Nev.

OK Mike, put the disk in the drive, then shut down and reboot, it should see the disk then and start the recovery procedure, unless of course there is a fault on the CD drive. (The bios will only see the disk at boot up, not after windows has loaded) Also, any chance of a screen shot of that boot order page, you may need to use a camera. Nev.
