Oh I can cut the grass all right!! so long as it is with a mower and not a pair of nail scissors!! :D Similar other rules also apply, like hands off my computer unless to assist in solving a problem on it. I also can cook, and sometimes burn food too.
-
Oh good, now you are out of the running, I shall go buy that ticket!! How much you want for it? I already have a ring. Trouble is, JB you may not want an old and dipsy fella like me :o

well Ok, still on the subject of letting off a bit of steam, we all sometimes feel like going GGGRRRR at someone, but it is part of life in general and not only on the forum. There are many instances of poor thought having gone into a request and the way it is worded. We just have to shout at the monitor, thump the keyboard, and then try to work out how best to help. No point in getting mad at them, they have a problem, they don't understand it, and hope we can.

2 Stereo output Sound Card Please Help!!
Plastic Nev replied to Hav0c's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi again, thanks for that link to the Traktor recommendations, They mention one of the M-Adio cards, so it is basically have a look at all those I gave links for, as they all give the multi channel out put you need, and take your pick. -
Hi Jags, If you follow all the above instructions carefully as Randy states, everything will be just fine and nothing will be lost, except of course the nasty malware that is causing the problem.
-
For a card that needs 300 watts, you would need a power supply or PSU that can handle at least 500 watts, and preferably more than that, say 800 watts, don't forget the rest of the computer needs power as well as the 300 watts required by the graphics card. There are sometimes odd issues as Cobra states, but I don't think there will be one with a HP machine as far as upgrading your power supply, and an off the shelf one from any reputable dealer should be OK. But make sure you ask a decent techy sort of guy in the shop first, not an ordinary salesman. The worst offenders for none standard power supply connections are Dell.

2 Stereo output Sound Card Please Help!!
Plastic Nev replied to Hav0c's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The problem that has got me scratching my head is the need for two separate channels, not just in the sound card but also throughout the entire computer, at the moment I am not even sure if this can be done. However the makers of Tractor, "Native Instruments" seem to think so. So armed with that and a look round, I found this site, quoting both a four channel card and even a ten channel one here- Multi-channel Sound Cards - Record multiple inputs direct to your Computer Both are PCI slot cards so will fit any desktop with a spare PCI slot. I have also been pointed at M-Audio by my friend Tootech, they do a rake of sound cards, one of which may be what you want. here- M-AUDIO - PCI Audio Interfaces Plus I also found this rather expensive beast at £639-00 Lynx L22 2-Channel Audio PCI Card - DV247.COM I also wonder at the possibilities of two ordinary sound cards side by side providing there are two spare PCI slots available. -
Hi, Further to all the above, providing the graphics is a separate card, power off again and lid off, locate the card and remove the fixing screw (be careful to keep hold of the screw, if dropped inside, they always roll under the mother board:D) Once the screw is removed, carefully remove the card. Transfer the monitor plug to the on board video or monitor out socket then try it again. If the graphics card is the problem the machine should start up OK with it out. Nev.

Poor baby Panda was nearly blown backwards with that one. I don't want to be there when it breaks wind.

Trucker Heads for Disaster

As to exactly how you could warn the truck driver I don't know. He was on another carriageway with quite a distance from the people videoing it, a blast on the horn would have either not been heard, or more likely, ignored any way. -
Win 98 Bios screen password????.
Plastic Nev replied to kevh's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, first, have you replaced that battery? if not do so as soon as possible. secondly, if you don't know that password I am sorry but we can't help with that one for obvious reasons. However, once the battery has been removed and replaced, and providing the machine is turned off when you do it, give it a few minutes before inserting the new battery and that should return the BIOS to default anyway, so no password should be needed. I am sure that if I am wrong about that, I will stand to be corrected as I know very little about pre XP systems. -
I also may wait a while before giving Windows 7 a go, but not too long as this desktop is getting long in the tooth. However that "Recommended settings" option seems a good one. Is this new altogether or is something similar in Vista? I do know in XP there is the option to run programs in an earlier version environment, but I never found it to work, but then again the program I was trying was ancient so gave up on it.

A shame that it has gone, I always think of what I can do with something other than its intended purpose, before throwing it when it goes wrong. You having been in the trade, you will remember those vibrator mechanical things that were used to turn DC to AC for those old valved car radios? Inside an aluminium can and hummed quietly when running, I used one that came out of a duff car radio with a pretty heavy transformer to run a four foot fluorescent tube from a car battery many years ago, (to light a garage a long way from the mains) and have been searching for alternative uses for stuff ever since.
-
In fact I will suggest that some good can still be obtained from the duff monitor. Both backlight tubes must still be working, so with some care the tube or tubes could be mounted in some form of holder. Next, and looking at the cards in the back, the inverter is a separate one, so it could be boxed to keep it from harm. Connect the now boxed card and the lamps, and you could have two useful desk lamps. I am full of good idea's. Nev.

Hi cobra, just out of interest, considering you have the original XP disk for it, have you tried an XP repair? Or if you have all your data backed up on the other two and can afford to try it, go for a complete reformat and re-install of XP. I only suggest this because IE 5,6,7, and 8 are so tied into the operating system it could be some glitch in the OS files themselves. Not only that, but whichever version of IE that came with the XP disk will be installed as if from new. Of course the problem with that will be having to search for and reinstall all the drivers. That is why I suggest a repair first, as this does actually reinstall the whole OS, but without losing data, and of course drivers.

Having had a quick look at the "Rescue CD" thing, there is a quite definite warning there that if a system file is infected, the process may render windows unable to start again. I feel that is perhaps a risk you may not be happy to take, however that is up to you. Myself I would advise letting a security expert on the malware forum lead you through everything, they are good at it, and even though it may take some time, it should be worth it. Nev.

Frequent Blue Screen errors
Plastic Nev replied to nmcmahon's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It has come to my notice, that you are already seeking help with this issue elsewhere BleepingComputer.com > Frequent Blue Screen errors I suggest you return there, fielding the same question on other forums only finishes up with helpers wasting time on both forums. I am closing this thread. -
Frequent Blue Screen errors
Plastic Nev replied to nmcmahon's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok, that is about right, so it isn't the virtual memory, it was only a guess, so I will leave it for someone with more ideas. -
That was my old cat, he died a few years ago. the one I have now is even worse at being violent, but usually at me!!!.
-
Well I now have a couple of pictures from it all, with the band and the trophies. Some in my album and one here.

Frequent Blue Screen errors
Plastic Nev replied to nmcmahon's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, in your first post the error reports mention "Page fault in non paged area" and also "Memory management" these are usually associated with the paging files or virtual memory. Have you set them up for a low figure? Ideally it should be system managed. -
The cat I had at the time mentioned was a sod for bringing things home, mostly still alive too, I have had rabbits, (he got them from a guy down the road who bred them and had a hole in the fence). All the usual small field mice, a hedgehog, (how did he manage that? I don't know) and once a quite large and very colourful exotic type of fish, who's fish tank he raided I never found out, but the fish had died from being out of water by then.

Some years ago I got a pigeon in my middle room. However it didn't get there voluntarily, the cat brought it in!! and without doing it much damage. The cat did the usual "Meeooww look at what I have brought for you, thereby letting it go. The ensuing mayhem of me, cat, pigeon, current girl friend plus sweeping brush, was to say the least comical, and fortunately not too damaging, just some paintwork round the doorway chipped. (Not too sure how that happened  ) It did take some time to persuade said pigeon to go through into the kitchen, then out the door into the yard, but we succeeded in the end. :D

Yep Zingle, I have seen the other thread, hence the mention of physically removing the drive and connecting that directly to a clean machine. :p You have to remember that you were there in person in the instance you quote. Here we are trying to ask a member to do all these things on a remote basis, and maybe with that member being not that technically minded. :o Long winded explanations of methods to do things, can be mind blowing to someone who has never done anything like that before ;) Best regards mate, Nev.
