  1. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Possibly some problem with that graphics card driver. As a quick solution I suggest doing a system restore to a time previous to installing that driver, and then refuse to reinstall that driver. If everything else works OK why should you install it? Nev.
  2. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I don't know that model of camera but suspect it is analogue and not digital output. What if any is the graphics card you have? you may even be better off obtaining an analogue to digital converter that plugs into a USB port, you should then be able to record that to a DVD once converted. Have a look here= http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/17268667/ION-VIDEO2PC-Digital-Video-Converter/Product.html?_%24ja=tsid:11518|cat:17268667|prd:17268667 Nev.
  3. We quite often recommend clearing junk from your computer and a good tool for doing this is CCleaner. I have recently found an excellent description of how to get the best out of this tool. From the "How To Geek" Please note he also recommends to not use the registry section of CCleaner unless you know what you are doing and really do need to use it, just as we also recommend. Have a look here= http://www.howtogeek.com/113382/how-to-use-ccleaner-like-a-pro-9-tips-tricks/ Nev.
  4. Hi thewetcats. Please post your question in the graphics section of our hardware forums, this is a very old thread and nothing on it is actually relevant to your problem as far as I can see. Post again where it should be please and either myself or other members will help. Here in this section it will be ignored. Nev.
  5. Hi Tom, glad you managed to sort it yourself. A backup, and better, a full image, is always a good idea as you now know. Once all is backed up, you can mess around with the hard drive as much as you like in the knowledge you can put it back if it all goes wrong. Thanks for letting us know. Nev.
  6. I assume you mean the Windows updates and relating to Vista or Windows 7 Jim? As yet not had any similar comments from Vista or Windows 7 users on the forums I am a member of, but will watch out for any problems and cures. At least you managed to escape it by S.R. in safe mode. I am also using Windows 7 and no updates yesterday for me. Nev.
  7. Hi, why did you include a link to another tech support forum? I have removed it for now. Nev.
  8. Indeed you would get that trying to run XP on a W7 machine, however I think you will find all should be OK on W8. Others who have tried the consumer preview have not reported any issues. Nev.
  9. Hi, we haven't started a Windows 8 section yet, no doubt we will have to sooner or later :D As far as I am aware the Windows 8 consumer preview should run on any computer capable of running Windows 7. Bear in mind Windows 8 is aimed specifically at touch screen technology. The few folk I have seen report on it, have all said it seemed a bit bland and difficult to work with if there is no touch screen. Nev.
  10. Hi, sorry but can you try a larger version, even magnifying it it is too blurred to read. Thanks if you can. A couple of questions though, first why the firewire card, is it because your external devices need firewire? For good sound if you are going to do recording, and especially music, I would be installing a sound card as either or as well as. If you only have the on board sound, a sound card is a must for quality. Nev.
  11. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, a sort of off the cuff for the moment thing, is there any chance you can try the scanner on a computer with XP on it to check if the scanner itself works? Nev.
  12. Hi Trazza, I will let JB know, in the mean time are you sure you downloaded and installed speedfan, I have just checked the download site and no sign of the extra things you mentioned. If you did download and install it, you should have a square black icon on the desktop labelled "Speedfan". If you do, just double click on that icon and speedfan will then open and first will check all system readings, once done it presents a small window with the details. Close any hint window that appears we don't need that. If possible post a screen shot of what is shown in the speedfan window. Nev.
  13. I just wish I was some use as an artist, but unfortunately not. I would love to be able to do decent artwork in animation, cartoon stuff and the like. Simon and his famous cat are a great example of that. However, stop motion with a camera can work, you know the principle, take a shot of an object, move the object, another shot, move it again and so on, just takes time is all. Nev.
  14. Just to add, I am off for tonight and won't be back till around the same time tomorrow. One of our other members may be able to carry on for you in the morning. Nev.
  15. Hi again, Carry on with the Malwarebytes first of course. Then, what shows as running in the Applications tab? anything odd there at all? Can you post a screen shot of all the Processes and also the CPU graph by any chance?
  16. Hi Jon and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. As it says Free in our title we do try to steer by that and only recommend buying something when it is the last resort, you would be surprised at just how much is available for free and with no strings attached. Having said that we could perhaps do with a bit more information first. What is showing you this 100%, are you using task manager or some other means? Have you looked in task manager at all and can that help to identify what may be making the CPU work at full? To get to task manager quickly, click "Start", then "Run" and copy and paste= taskmgr into the "Open" then click OK. Can you please tell us the exact model of your HP machine, also is it laptop or desktop? Next possible consideration may be malware, what security do you have installed in the way of anti-virus or anti-spayware? If you don't already have Malwarebytes Antimalware installed, click here= http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Once the Malwarebytes page opens, click on the Products tab at the top and select "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free. You may be redirected to another site for the actual download, that is normal. Once downloaded and installed, if it doesn't open, open it and first find updates and update it to the current version. Then run a quick scan, you can if you wish run a full scan but that will take more time, a quick scan should show up anything for us to see. When it finishes the scan it opens a notepad log, please copy and paste it into your next reply. Nev.
  17. Hi, sorry for the delay, work gets in the way during the week. It must be some odd setting within Windows then as sound works OK when running Ubuntu, I take it Ubuntu was running from the disk and not fully installed at the time? lets have a look at some settings, firstly go to control panel and for ease of access click View by: top right and select Large Icons, this then spreads all control panel items out so we can see each one. You should then see Realtek HD Audio Manager as one item, and also just a loudspeaker icon and the word Sound, it is this one we want first as that is the Windows own control. When the sound window opens, click on the loudspeaker which should highlight it as this screen shot shows. http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/68/69/96/sound_10.jpg First try the configure button, in that window try the "test" button, any sound from that? If nothing there, close that and click the "Properties" button, then on the levels tab at the top, you should hopefully see this window. http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/68/69/96/sound_11.jpg Are the settings of the slider controls similar to mine? in my case the pink is not in use. Also there should be no red circle and bar in any of the speaker icons on that page or window, click on them if there are to remove them as they are the muted symbols. Let us know if anything is different, and exactly what it is, from those shots. Nev.
  18. As a fellow animation messer upper Paul, I also like the idea of combining the two. Well done and a good idea, now why didn't I think of doing it? :D However, some time since I took this fairly well known one. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/anigif.gif Doubled it, then turned the second set upside down, added some small amount of text ETC. So we see a trampoline artist, and a bungie jumper meeting head on. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/anigif2.gif
  19. When you do get the disk Jim, just go back to that tutorial I found, that link in my previous post. Follow that and all should go as planned. Remember also, if plan "A" doesn't work out, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet. :D Nev.
  20. OK, try a double click on the "Realtek High Definition Audio" Then on the drivers tab, select update drivers, then select "Search automatically for updated hardware drivers" see if that helps. Nev.
  21. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. We need to look in device management in Windows 7. Click on Start, and type or copy and paste devmgmt.msc into the search bar. Click on the devmgmt.msc and the device manager window will open, look down the list for "Sound, video, and game controllers, click the little expansion arrow to the left it should show "Realtek High Definition Audio" are there any red or yellow marks? Nev.
  22. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, the one thing we do need to know is the motherboard make and model, or at least the computer make and model to be able to help further, also the current size of the power supply as the new card may need more power than the one you have now. Nev.
  23. Hi, I also have read through that thread and one thing I see with a now new bit of knowledge. A member of a different forum I also advise on had similar troubles if not exactly the same, and like you was getting fed up as everything had been tried. I cannot as yet say who or where, as I don't have his permission. He then found totally on his own, that the power saving in Windows 7 was the cause. He found that when the system was kicking into power save mode, the voltage on the CPU was dipping too low for the CPU to continue and was shutting down. He turned off all power saving modes and the problem was solved. This line on your first post is what gives me the clue= "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." Go to Control panel and select "Power Options" Make sure the dot is in "Balanced" then click on change plan settings, make sure that "Never" is selected for both. Click on "Apply" and then OK. There may be more options available on your laptop as I am looking at a desktop. Let us know if that works or not. Nev.
  24. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, loud and sustained rattling noises from the hard drive suggest it has died on you I am afraid. Good job perhaps that there was no data on it to be lost. There may be some instructions in your manual for removing the hard drive for replacement, in most cases it will be a cover underneath, remove that, perhaps one or two screws, and usually just pull the drive out. Nev.
  25. Yes ideally the new mother board should be identical or Windows will recognise a new environment and refuse to boot anyway. One other thing though, can you be sure the power supply is OK? Low voltage outputs could give similar results, can you borrow one of similar or higher power? Nev.
