  1. Hi, Why did you remove Java? It is needed for a large number of other applications to run correctly, those applications are now looking for Java, but can't find it, hence the blue circle running. Please download and re-install the Java runtime environment from here= http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp Nev.
  2. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Was there anything odd or untoward happened just previous to this happening, or did it just happen with no warning at all? it does sound like there may be something unwanted lurking that has caused this. If you do not have Malwarebytes installed, download and install it from here= http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Click on the white "Download now" button to download the free version, we don't need the paid for full version. The page will change to possibly a C.Net page, to actually obtain the download, that is normal. Once downloaded and installed, open it and update it to get the latest data, then run a quick scan. Please copy and post the log that will open when the scan has finished. Nev.
  3. Hi, OK, what else have you looked at, I know it is the obvious thing but have you checked that the speakers are not muted, and volume sliders are at the top, by looking in the sound controls? Are you using the laptops own speakers or have you tried either external speakers or headphones in the speaker out jack socket? Click "Start" then "Run", type or copy and paste= devmgmt.msc Click the + next to "Sound, Video, and game controllers" are there any red or yellow marks? If so what are they for. Also, does your laptop have a volume control on the side of the case as my Toshiba does? It is so easy to accidentally turn that down to zero when removing it from, or putting it back in its case. Let us know what make and model your laptop is if it isn't that simple, then I can look up specs for what other things to look for. Nev.
  4. Hi, If you change the CPU then yes you do need to know what type is compatible with your mother board. The power supply is fine at 700 watts, you would need to be using a high end gaming graphics card and rig for that to be not enough. Nev.
  5. Further to Jelly Beans answer, a bit more about Facetime can be learned here= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FaceTime Please note, somewhere in there is this statement, "FaceTime is not currently supported on any non-Apple devices". Nev.
  6. Hello Arthrug and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.
  7. Hi and welcome Michael, plenty here to learn about, from all hardware to software. Nev.
  8. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. It does look like a driver problem rather than hardware as you say, I see from the screen shot you can get to device manager, have a look in there for any red or yellow exclamation or question marks, you may have to expand each section to check, let us know if you find anything. Nev.
  9. Hi cybergran, as Randy pointed out to FenKat, please start a new thread. This one has been marked as solved and therefore will get no further attention. Nev.
  10. If RandyL is correct about the photo's themselves, Irfanview is an excellent file type converter and may make the photo's viewable and even usable if that is the case with them. with the disk in but cancelled from starting, go to my computer and it should show the disk is in the disk drive. Right click on the disk drive, you should see an option to view files and folders on the disk. Click on that and then you should see a list of everything on it. You can also do that with the other recovery disk you made. If not sure about what the files shown are for, copy and paste both of the lists here and we may be able to point out the one you want. Nev.
  11. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. The first question we need to know is where did you obtain this Windows Home Premium from? is it the disk or a download? What is the make and model of the computer, also the make and size of the new hard drive? If this is a home build computer can you tell us the motherboard make and model? Nev.
  12. Worth a look in the tools disk, it may or may not be self executing, so be ready to stop it loading when you put the disk in, the disk drawer release button being a last resort to stop it loading. If it doesn't self load, you should have the option to look at the files it contains if it opens a window with options in it. If no window, go to my computer, then a right click on the disk drive should reveal that, again via the options. Look and see if it is there. Otherwise, if you can let us know what exactly you used the Adobe software for, we might just be able to find something similar. As a start in that direction, have you looked at one called PhotoFiltre? Here is a link for the free download http://photofiltre.free.fr/frames_en.htm On the page that opens, click "Downloads" on top left, then at the top of that page "English version with setup installer and Ask Toolbar". or alternatively, click this link to start the download straight away. Once downloaded, to wherever you store downloads, doubler http://photofiltre.free.fr/images/floppy.gif English version with setup installer and Ask Toolbar Once you have it downloaded, double click to start installing, they say you should be able to uncheck the install of the Ask Toolbar during the install. If not or you miss that, it can be removed through the normal "remove programs". Nev. N.
  13. Hi, I can't find out very much about the sound system on your computer at the moment Is this your computer manual?= http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insM5040/en/sm/index.htm However quite often the headphone socket has a set of contacts that are opened when the headphones are plugged in, this isolates the speakers. Unfortunately these contacts can become bent or even broken in use so they do not return the speakers when the headphone plug is removed, therefore really a hardware fault within the socket. Considering this machine is still well within its warranty period, I suggest getting in touch with Dell about this problem in view of getting it repaired by them. To advise looking into it yourself may void the warranty you see. Nev.
  14. I take it that the old computer no longer exists so you can't do it again? How did you make the transfer work by the way as programs should be properly installed not just the program files copied from one computer to the other, although with some simpler programs it can sometimes work that way. (I have done it, so know it can) It is maybe looking like you have lost it for good though now, so if you can describe exactly what you used the old Adobe program for and how you used it, there is a chance there may be another program that can do the same things. Nev.
  15. Sounds to me the folk who did this upgrade disturbed a fan mounting, or worse did some damage to a fan sending it out of balance if there is severe vibration. My first thought is take it back and complain about it rather than spending more money, if it wasn't noisy before the upgrade was done, it shouldn't be noisy now. Nev.
  16. Good thinking Andy, relax with a drink for tonight. Frustration can lead to silly mistakes making the situation worse. At 64 years old, I have been there, written the book, and starred in the film ha ha. Nev.
  17. Just to add, the Malwarebytes page the link goes to, now has a white "Download now" button, this is the link button for the free version. It takes you then to a download mirror site, usually C/Net, that is usual and is a means that Malwarebytes uses to help prevent any malware from stopping the download. I fully endorse KenB regarding registry cleaners of any sort, they can cause more problems than they supposedly clear up. Nev.
  18. Considering it worked first time, but died after checking stuff, maybe there is a poor connection somewhere on one of the many connectors, but the first to check is the power supply connections to the motherboard, any signs of burning on pins or sockets? Same for the hard drive as well, that sort of thing needs to be carefully gone over and double checked. Nev.
  19. In my case, I know that any e mail supposedly from my bank has got to be a phishing attempt. My bank doesn't have my e mail address. Nev.
  20. Just to add a final bit to this, Firefox is very memory intensive when running, if as in your case, not much memory to start off with, video being also memory intensive will struggle to run. I wish I had asked which browser you were using, I might have seen the problem then. All the best with it till you can afford a new and better machine, but glad Randy saw what I had missed and problem, maybe not solved as such, but at least you know what it is. Nev.
  21. Just to add, we have seen this fairly recently with another member, it turned out to be low voltage from the power supply, therefore not providing enough power for an external USB powered drive on the problem computer. Answer Kens questions first regarding the Disk management and if it is recognised there, and also if other USB devices function OK. If no real results in that direction can you let us know what make and model the home Windows 7 computer is, and if known, the size of its power supply. Just so we can check the voltages, download and install the free version of Speccy from here= http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download Don't go for the paid for versions as the free will give us the information we need. Once installed and open, click on "Motherboard" it is what is showing in Voltages we are interested in, copy and paste that here please. Plug in the external drive and if any voltage changes let us know that as well, thanks. Nev.
  22. Hi, the only way to check the card is in another but similar computer, or take it to a repair shop and ask if they can check it out for you. The second option though may cost a small fee. Have you checked that all drivers and other software relating to the previous card has been deleted? Nev.
  23. Hi Peter, I have removed your surname to help maintain your personal privacy and internet safety. Various bots and trolls search for this sort of information, they then connect through internet searches and other means to your E Mail address, and may even get to your full address where you live. At best, the next thing you know is a mailbox full of spam, at worst cash missing from your bank accounts. Nev.
  24. Sorry, but a bit confused here, the Adobe software, is that on a disk of its own? and not an original part of the computer when you bought it? Nev.
  25. Hi, just wondering if perhaps it was a poor initial install of Windows onto the new hard drive in the first place, it can sometimes happen with Windows XP, but will leave it for further comment from others before recommending a re-install, and all the hassle that will give.
