  1. This is Windows spam - especially if you don't want to upgrade. Did you do right? -Yes.- It is not important. It was an "Optional" update at one time and was reclassified by M$oft.
  2. Thanks for the additional information Woodworker. Not a very satisfactory solution - but at least you have a machine that you can use :)
  3. You didn't answer my question about POST beeps ??
  4. Thanks for the update Lindos - I will chalk this up as "solved" :)
  5. Hi Woodworker Did you remember the password or use another means ? It is possible to create a password reset "disk" on a memory-stick for times like this :)
  6. Sorry for the late reply decemberboy. Yes - exactly that - take a look here - click here
  7. Hi nuley, any luck with the problem machine ?
  8. Hi Gary and welcome to ExTS :) I am sorry for the slow reply. Do you get a POST beep when you switch the machine on ? One beep is normal. I am surprised that the desktop system booted up on another machine - but if it did all well and good, Can you let us know what Operating System is on the desktop please ?
  9. Hi Lindos and welcome to ExTS :) If I understand you correctly .... you open Task Manager and there are entries there that you cannot delete. What heading are they under ? Processes / Details ? Any chance of a screen shot ?
  10. Hi George I have just done a search for your lattitude D630 - some are having problems and others not. If the BIOS is being highlighted as incompatible as I said before - I would be inclined to leave well alone.
  11. So shocked to hear this sad news. Nev was one alone. A thoroughly decent bloke who had a wicked sense of humour. He has helped so many people on forums over the years. Pete ( Starbuck ) and I have known him for at least 10. He loved his music and steam trains and his pint of real ale. I will raise a glass in your honour my friend. God bless Nev. 12. Hi George Sorry for the late reply - I missed this somehow :( If you are getting a message that "BIOS not supported " there are only two options. 1. Update the BIOS ( if there is an updated version available ) 2. Stay with Win-7 Personally I would be inclined to stay with Win-7 If the BIOS upgrade goes wrong your machine will be useless. Also there is no guarantee that the updated BIOS will be compatible. If you give me the make and model number of the machine I will see if I can find out a little more.
  13. Hi Ray Just for reference: The "SS" = Super Speed which is a USB 3.0 port. It should have been compatible with your device - even if this was USB 2.0 Strange. Good to hear that you got it sorted :)
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) Can you give more details of this set-up please? [ connected from where to where / devices etc ] If you are using an extender - make and model number ?
  15. Hi George Your profile is showing XP. Are you attempting to upgrade from XP to Win 10 ?
  16. Hi Ray Happy New Year to you and yours :) I doubt that the device itself is at fault - but it will do no harm to swap it. I suspect that the problem is either a corrupt download or the fact that your AV and security software is active during the download. Let us know how you get on :) I will delete the post that has had no replies.
  17. Have a good Christmas Beejay :)
  18. It has to be a software problem :) Is this now solved ?
  19. Hi, I have just tried this link - click here - and it worked for everything I tried. Example - ÷ ¬ ½ © § € À Use the numeric display on the right side of the keyboard.
  20. Hi, Yes - I found it a bit hit and miss too :( Regarding the double post - I have removed the other one. How did you get the € sign ? Right Alt + 4 was working for me .....now it just rotates my screen image 90 deg !! Have you tried with NUM LOCK on / off ? As you say ......confusing !
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am sorry for the very slow response ....it is that time of year :( Are you still having problems with this ? Does the keyboard LEDs light up ? Can you hear the hard-drive spinning ? I suspect that this may be a Power Supply problem.
  22. Hi Does this help at all ? click here Also here - click here I have just tried the last one ... Using the keypad to the right of the keyboard ( not the numbers across the top ) Left Alt + 171 = 1/2 ( doesn't work typing here but does with Office document ) Also Right ALT + 4 = €

  24. I can confirm that this is correct :) Llanfallteg16 .....I will see if I can artificially increase your post count ----- then you should be able to PM Starbuck. EDIT - success .....you are now showing 10 posts.
