  1. Thanks for the reminder Starbuck. I still have an old laptop with IE9 on it and Win-7 with IE on it too. I tend not to use IE - but I know Mrs KenB does. :)
  2. Hi and welcome. This is the clue to what is possible causing your problems. You could try the inbuilt troubleshooter. Right click on the network icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Do you have internet access at all ( wireless / wired ) ? Take a look here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/299357 You can reset TCP/IP manually or let the "FixIt" do it for you. If you have no internet access on that machine then you could save the "FixIt" to a memory stick.
  3. Hi, If you are sure that the MBR has been deleted you could take a look here - click here EaseUs is a well known provider of free software. Click on "Partition Table Doctor"
  4. Hi and welcome from me too. There is a Windows-7 compatibility tool here - click here - It will tell you if your system can cope with Win-7
  5. The 210 isn't small ..............the 960 is a monster !! :)
  6. No problem R-K .......let us know if we can help further :)
  7. I am happy to continue with suggestions if you wish :)
  8. Hi No problem with the double post - I deleted it :) Go back to Device Manager > right click on the wifi device > can you enable it from here ? Just a thought - do you have Aeroplane Mode on? If so - turn this off.
  9. Did you try the HP link ? Other option - System Restore to a date before the updates. Then manually install the updates one at a time - making a restore point after each if there is no problem.
  10. It is looking like a driver problem .... it should say "Ralink" If you go back to Device Manager - right click on the wireless device > click on "Update Driver Software" Let it search automatically. You will need the LAN cable connected. You could also try this: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-p6-2000-Desktop-PC-series/5151865/model/5176985/drivers Let HP identify missing and out of date drivers
  11. Does it say "Ralink" or anything else next to this ? What is the make and model number of your machine please ? Hopefully from this we can locate the drivers for the wireless side of your network. If you connect to the router with an ethernet cable - do you have access to the net ?
  12. Hi m-w, Good to hear that it was that simple :)
  13. Hi, Is your machine an A.cer ? This .dll is linked with MyWinlocker which is an A.cer installation. If you try the following: Start > type in ...msconfig .... hit Return Click on "Startup" Scroll down and see if "MyWinLocker" is listed. If it is ....take the tick out of the box > Apply > OK You may need to reboot.
  14. Try Nev's suggestion first. I suggested earlier that you made a note of what was listed in Device Manager. What was this ?
  15. Hi R-K, The exclamation mark is usually driver related - indicating a problem. If you Right click on the driver in Device Manager ....then click on "Update Driver" Select "Search Automatically" I know you don't have internet access - but if the drivers exist on the system this may locate them and re-install. Before you do the following - please make a note of the offending driver from Device Manager. failing that: Right click on the offending driver in Device Manager. Then click on "uninstall" Reboot the system. Windows will see "new hardware" and attempt to install a driver for it. Let me know how you get on.
  16. As Nev said - it is not recommended to use any software that "cleans" or otherwise changes the Registry. I assume that this is a desktop machine. Do you get any POST beeps when you switch on ? If so - what is the pattern of beeps? ( 3 short ...repeated ...for instance ) One beep is normal. What is the make and model number please ?
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have to agree with Nev - I suspect the PSU also. However ... take a look here - click here - this will walk you through the test procedure. Let us know how you get on.
  18. Welcome Gerald :)
  19. My description above will not work for Win-7. Take a look here - click here
  20. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am not an expert on games or gaming so suggestions may be limited. Please confirm that you are using Windows-8. Try the compatibitity troubleshooter: Windows Key + S .........type in .....run programs .......then click on the box ....run programs made for previous versions of windows The trouble shooter will scan your system. Click on F-M 2010 if it appears. If not select Not Listed Follow the on-screen instructions.
  21. Hi I have moved the thread to the Windows-8 forum. Let us know how you get on :)
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS I assume that the OS is Win 7 ( from your profile ) Could you confirm this please? Also - let us know the make and model number of the laptop ( this may help later ) It is a possibility that dust has built up inside the case. The usual first step is to get a can of compressed air ( any computer shop even motor factors ) and, using short blasts, spray through the vents. This is best done outside. Just picking up your machine and it blue screens suggests a bad connection. Try taking the battery out and running on just the power-adapter. Also try just the battery without the mains adapter connected. If the RAM is accessible ( usually under a panel in the base ) take this out and replace. You could also try these one at a time. If you hold the keyboard firmly on a table and move the screen backwards and forwards - does it blue screen doing this ? Let us know the results of the above.
  23. Hi and welcome to ExTS If the old hard-drives came from an XP machine it is likely that the connections are IDE and the new machine will be SATA You need to take a look and let us know. This link will help - click here I am thinking that it may be easier to simply add the old hard-drives into the new system as secondary drives. No need to transfer anything then. If everything is SATA then no problem. If the new motherboard has an IDE connection - again no problem. Let us know what you have. If you are unsure - just ask :) We may move this thread to the Windows-8 forum after you post back. :)
  24. Hi Signart, good to see you again. It could be that you have your system set to a fixed IP address and not to obtain one automatically. Normally the network that you are accessing would allocate you an IPAddress - it is unlikely that it would allocate 2 the same. To check: Take a look here - click here http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/ Scroll down for Win7 ( if this is your system ) Check that you have "Obtain IP Address Automatically" ticked.
  25. Hi Leon and welcome to ExTS I have been away from home for a while - so sorry for the slow response. Are you still having problems ? I am not a Win 10 user ( not gone down that route yet :) ) but I did find this - click here It seems that Win10 can be set so that CTRL + ALT + DEL needs to be pressed as a security measure. Is this of use? In your case you would need to un-check the box.
