I installed 2 updates for Windows 7 that were automatic last week and after the computer restarted, whenever I click on a Word document, it says, installing software, wait a few minutes and then an error message comes up saying that there was a fatal error during installation. I have the original word software and when I insert that I receive a message stating that there was a problem, looking for a solution and then it closes as it says there is no solution. Please help! I don't know what the 2 latest updates were for as my computer is set to search for updates automatically daily. Prior to that, the week before, it installed either 12 or 14 updates. All my Microsoft Word documents are still there with their own icon, but I can't open or make any new documents. Please help! View this thread

cannot install update kb2802968 and kb2780091
AWS posted a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello Recently on the update history I have noticed that these updates have been trying to complete since Feb 12, 2013 without success. They keep failing to install. The description for them are as follows: Security Update for Windows XP (KB2780091) and (KB2802968) A security issue has been identified that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this update, you may have to restart your system. -------------------------------------------- All of the other updates have been successful. I am concerned because these updates that keep failing , are to prevent malicious take over. I have updated Adobe flash to the latest version. I am running Windows XP 32 bit service pack 3. I am running the latest version of Avast Pro. Firewall is Sygate. I noticed something peculiar I have never seen before :: The Icon for Avast in the task bar, showed that everything was on and running, but when I right clicked on the icon , it showed all the shields were disabled, very strange. I have done multiple and varied virus scans and only came up with various "Open Candy" hits , but also " Win32/NetTool.Portscan.NAA" all these hits were quarintined. I also changed all my passwords and have been staying off the internet for the most part. I have been unsuccessful in getting these 2 updates to work. Please , any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Info as follows :: OS - Microsoft Windows XP Home EditionVersion 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600 Graphics - ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP IE 8 - Version 8.0.6001.18702Build 86001 MS Office 2007 / Compatibility Pack SP 3 MS Word 2003 MS.Net Framework 2.0 SP 1 / 2.0 SP 2 / 3.0 SP 1 / 3.0 SP 2 / 3.5 SP 1 / 4 Client Profile Antivirus - Avast Pro Firewall - Sygate Pro I do windows updates manually every second Tuesday, but the last one I think I was a bit late and did not do it until Thursday. I searched the MS site, but can not seem to find info on these updates. Sorry if I have left out any info, I'm not to sure what to provide, I'm not to technical. Nervous Ned View this thread -

Brand new Toshiba laptop pre installed with windows 8, Window update has never run successfully. After several days looking at and trying existing community querys/solutions I am still stuck . - sfc/scannow suggestion indicated no problems - I have tried the windows update trouble shooter .. it runs "fixes 2items" however still get 8024a000 - tried disabling AV (mcafertee) - Lowered IE security to minimal / enabled pop ups & cookies. - tried clean boot sugestions disabling start-up items and services . still fails. - Unwilling to run any so called registry cleanup options as not sure what is really happening with these and not confident they relate to windows 8. All I really want to do is install my printer, however apparently the only way to get the relevant driver (according to Brother) is via windows a update .. catch 22 Any further assistance/sugestions would be appreciated. I am NOT a PC fix-it expert and very much would appreciate help in solving serious Windows 7 update problems. MS pushed several Windows 7 updates to my Dell Inspiron Laptop 1505 last night and now everything is hosed up. I am running Windows 7 32 bit. Automatic update on Dell Inspiron 1505 has six failures (KB2792100, KB279052, KB2789645, KB2789642, KB2778344, KB2799494) AND now tells me that my Windows 7 Build 7601 "This copy of Windows in not genuine". I know it is a genuine Windows 7 load because I purchased the software from retail (Costco) and I have the case with Product Key. Tried running the "Fixit" from MS website, but get the message that "virus scan failed" and can't run the program. Tried turning off Norton antivirus (comes with Comcast Internet Service - but still can't fix). Tried to use the "Restore" feature but only restore points now available are from today - after the failed Windows 7 updates. Previous to these automatic Windows 7 updates, have NOT had any problems. Please help! View this thread

I am running Windows 7 on a HP desktop. On Feb. 16 the following updates installed: Security updates for Windows KB2792100, KB2790655, KB2790113. In addition, an update for Office 2007 installed, and Office 2007 SP3 as well as a total of 19 security updates for Office 2007. Since then, my pc boots to a desktop with my wallpaper and gadgets, but no icons. Ctrl-Alt-Del takes me to a grey screen. I have tried 3 previous restore points. Nothing has worked. I have been unable to run FixIt in Safe Mode. Any help appreciated. View this thread

I got a virus and did a factory image reset, installed sp1 and sp2, then I started dowloading the updates. it was working fine untill the last restart. Now the network notifaction only shows local, not my dial-up. neither does the network sharing center, under the manage network connections it does show my connection, but the IPv4 under status shows "not connected". I did the followimg witout any fix, I tried to dail up in safe mode but could not get my modem to work. Troubleshoot network connection problems:http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/33307acf-0698-41ba-b014-ea0a2eb8d0a81033.mspx To reset the TCP/IP stack go to this article and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357 Disable the IP Helper service: 1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session5. Click OK to exit the dialog Disable IPv6:Try uninstalling IPv6 on all interfaces, removing any IPv6 virtual adapters, and resetting the TCP/IP stack. To remove IPv6, go into the properties for each network adapter and either uncheck the box next to the protocol "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6), that will disable it, or select it and click uninstall, which will remove it off the computer. Then go into device manager and remove any 4to6 adapters, WUN miniport adapters, or tunnel adapters. NOTE: You should do this for each network connection. Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag: Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP serversTo resolve this issue, disable the DHCP BROADCAST flag in Windows Vista. To do this, follow these steps:Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParametersInterfaces{GUID}In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the network adapter that is connected to the network. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then press ENTER.Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.Close Registry Editor.By setting this registry key to 1, Windows Vista will first try to obtain an IP address by using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets. If that fails, it will try to obtain an IP address without using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets. To flush the DNS cache:Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, and then click cmd in the Programs list.If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.Once at the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns ===================================================================================== Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7 Article ID: 929833 "This did find 1 file bad and fixed it." ============================================================================================== View this thread

I have read many internet reports that said Microsoft will not be putting out a service pk 2 for Windows 7. They say Microsoft is trying to push people to Windows 8 so they wont put one out. If this is the case then not only will they push me but the will push me to a MAC I dont like Windows 8 and there is nothing wrong with 7. If Microsoft wants to make a move like this I think they will see lots of folks moving to a MAC. I perfer a PC over Mac but if they wont support the best OS they have ever made then I say heck with them. I know of alot of others that have already said heck with them. They went to buy a new PC and all they can get is a windows 8 and they dont like it. Nor do i it has too much flash and not enough bang. Oh its great if you want to set all day and play with photos but as far as being a work horse like 7 or xp forget it, its junk View this thread

I keep getting the blue screen with System Service Exception in Windows 8. It looks like a lot of people are having it. I can't use my computer without losing all information every few minutes. It is brand new. Is fix coming out? It happens a lot with Firefox, but other times too, and reboots sometimes when typing an email in the Windows 8 email program. View this thread

The exact error message - there is no error message; WinUpdate history shows important update KB2799494 has installed successfully. But when I View Installed Updates it's not there. It then repeats the same update install over and over for as long as I'm willing to click OK. Your program and version - Windows Update Your operating system and version - Win7 Home Premium 6.1.7601; x64-based PC Your browser and version - IE 9.0.10 (KB2744842) Any software or hardware that you recently installed or removed - No changes to either Any recent changes that were made to the system - None The things that you have already tried to do to troubleshoot the problem - everything I could find on repeating updates in general, and KB2724197 + KB2799494 specifically. This started with update KB2724197 and I followed all the suggestions I found in the forum to no avail - download/full scan my system with Norton, Eset NOD32, Kaspersky and the msert.exe file from Microsoft as well as Security Essentials [which has been running flawlessly ever since upgrading to Win7 from Vista in 2010] - no infections found with any of them; reset Windows Update components; from SevenForums I used some bat files that cleaned my WinUpdate; did some manual deletions of files in WinDirsystem32configtxr and ..system32smistoremachine. I gave up on fixing this and ignored it. Until today when I noticed that, lo and behold, WinUpdate no longer asked to install any more instances of KB2724197 but instead was asking for reinstalls of successfully installed KB2799494, even after I manually downloaded it and successfully installed it using the standalone installer. I looked up KB2799494 and it's a 2013 supersede update of guess what - KB2724197. So basically same problem, new KB #. I assume that this has been ongoing since the date of the original attempt of installing update KB2724197 in Sep-2012 because I have no installed updates to "Microsoft Windows" since 23-Sep-2012, KB2744842 and a series immediately preceding that on 13-Sep-2012: KB2709981, KB2719857, KB2735855, KB2736233 and KB2741355. I am posing this question as a last resort. I intend to ignore this problem until next weekend when I will wipe out the whole mess by reinstalling WIn7 in its entirety and updating the whole weekend long, I presume. Waste of my time but what else can I do? View this thread

I have a ywo year old self built system running Win 7 32 bit. I have been unable to do a windows update since Oct. 2012. BITS shows as stopped & when I try to start it I get error 2147024891. I have tried to reregister qmgr to no avail. I have tried to delete & reinstall all users profile to no avail. I guess I have tried several other things that I am too frustrated to remember at this time. Is there a manual operation or an automatic repair tool that I haven't tried yet that may help me? I have a fully updated Norton security suite installed, and I have run FixIT 50202 also to no avail. I have run checksur and sfc /scannow with no luck. I looked at running KB842773, bit it says it is not for Windows 7 and tells me there is nothing wrong. Hopefully someone can point me into a direction that I haven't gone yet? View this thread

I recently updated windows 7. This included SP3 and quite a few other updates including one for the HP LaserJet 1022. That printer now produces only blank pages. The printer test button produces a lovely page. I have checked all of the connections, I have deinstalled and reinstalled the driver, I have turned the printer and computer off/on at the appropriate times. Any suggestions? View this thread
