I have a virus and I have downloaded Windows Defender offline and set it up to reboot from my usb drive. I get as far as the update process and it tells me that window defender will not update and it gives me the error code 0x80072ee7. Ideas? I have no idea if what I am trying to run is the beta version or not. View this thread

I went to the Start Menu and clicked Windows Update. (Microsoft Update is the actual screen name.) I clicked Express--Get high priority updates(recommended). Microsoft Update now says the following: Checking for the latest updates for your computer.... After a while Renew and Install Updates appear; then I click Install Updates. Installing Updates window appears with this message: The updates are being installed. Installstion status appears below. Extracting files sometimes on the screen. Often I do it the short way; that is, I click on the yellow icon at the bottom of the screen, and Instaliing Updates appears. Long way or short way, the yellow icon appears again after a while. Why? Also, why does the yellow icon remain even after doing this? Sincerely, KathyNortonKS View this thread

I have been trying to install .NET Framework 4 all day, and have been following these guides to no avail. What happens is I run the installer and it gets to the point where it says rolling back .NET Framework 4 Client Profile. The green bar runs all over the place for awhile and then it fails, because of a "Fatal error during installation." The log file shows me the following: OS Version = 6.1.7601, Platform 2, Service Pack 1 OS Description = Windows 7 - x64 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 CommandLine = C:90050c41cdd46d27df\Setup.exe /x86 /x64 TimeZone = Central Daylight Time Initial LCID = 1033 Using Simultaneous Download and Install mechanism Operation: Installing Package Name = Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup Package Version = 4.0.30319 User Experience Data Collection Policy: AlwaysUploaded Number of applicable items: 11 Exe (C:90050c41cdd46d27dfSetupUtility.exe) succeeded. " (Elapsed time: 0 00:00:59). The first thing I did was google the error code at the end. I followed the instructions here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982, but Fix It said it was finished processing and then it did nothing and .NET 4 Client Profile was not listed in Programs and Features. I then tried a system file check in command prompt and it came up clean. Next I disabled and re-enabled .NET Framework 3.5.1 and it didn't help. The thread here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/fatal-error-during-installation-causes-net/2837e907-d78a-4c58-a5c4-6689914ebce9 ended with a technician recommending an In-place upgrade but that apparently bricked his computer. If that is the only way to fix this issue then I am just going to do without. View this thread

since friday June 22nd, it feels like my keyboard types random characters (such as tj2x7IpP or vHMG9Fqx). at first, I thought it was a virus so I did a virus scan (avast!), no hit. Then, I did a clean format, problem still here, I changed keyboard, problem is still here. Now I suspect it's the latest windows update that I applied on friday morning that's the cause of the problem because when I boot on Ubuntu (Linux), I don't get the same problem at all. the problem occurs when I'm running on win7 x64, anyone experiences the same thing View this thread

I'm wondering if MSE would have picked up on these as I was running another A/V & Firewall product that failed to detect them? This other product's support staff was no help their forums useless and in the end I spent $200 for virus/trojan removal and also received 1 yr of tech support. I had posted on my clan forum about this issue and someone suggested MSE. I've downloaded it with no problems, installed it with no problems and it's currently doing what it's supposed to do. Though I've been using MSE for only a very short time, I'm quite impressed. These forums have a TON of information. When I searched on trojandownloader I found a post and a reply was offered from MSE staff that gave instructions to fix the problem by installing another downloadable product, using the MSE website or contacting customer service by phone. The Adware issue was also found in the forums and a solution offered. My other product offered no solutions but they did extend my subscription for an additional 90 for their POS software. I'm in the process of buying another PC from a boutique manufactorer and plan on installing MSE pre-release on that machine if it's still available when it arrives. My new PC will consist of: Cooler Master 942 HAF X Processor: Intel Core i7 2700K 3.50 GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) which they said can be overclocked to 4.5-4.8 GHz? Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 (Intel Z77 Chipset) (Features Thermal Armor and Thermal Radar) 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Power Supply: 1000W Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (Model: Black Edition) Set 1 Raid Options: Configure HDD Set 1 to a Raid 1 Config - Mirror (Requires Two HDDs) Hard Drive Set 2: MultimediaData: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (Model: Black Edition) Internet Access: Killer 2100 (Optimized for Online Gaming) Lag and Latency Reduction Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 4GB (Includes PhysX) They offer to overclock the GPU, should I have them do this? OS Boost: FREE: Yes, Disable and tweak all of the non-crucial services on the operating system Should I have them disable all of the non-crucial services on Windows 7 or will I have issues using MSE or anything else for that matter as I'm really not sure what they mean by disabling & tweaking? I can only assume they know what they're doing? Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) So far my experiences with MSE and especially the forums leave me at a loss for words. Keep up the good work guys!!! View this thread

This morning I went to sign in at FBook, and my account was temorarily closed. I received a warning that some maleware had infected my account, and that Microsoft would help me. All I had to do was download Microsoft Security essentials and they would remove the threat. I was forced to download and scan my computer, and they still didn't find any threat. What is this all about? Just another way to collect info?? Any help is appreciated. View this thread

Installed MSE yesterday and cleaned system. Today I am unable to run Blizzard Launcher for Mists of Pandaria beta. Error msg says MSE might be blocking. How do I change MSE to allow this program to run? I play both Diablo III & Mists of Pandaria (beta) and need all necessary programs to run without interference. I would prefer to not disable my firewall for extended periods of time as this defeats the purpose of having it. I have done all of the suggested steps except disabling my firewall. Exact msg is 'Failed to run a required program (Agent). Wait one minute and try again and if that doesn't work please restart your computer and try again. Please click the link below for more information or contract Customer support if the problem persists.' Error code: BLZPTS00007 links to Blizzard forum Failed to Run a Required Program (Agent) Keywords: failed to run, required program, required, failed, agent, failed to run agent… Failed to run a required program (Agent). This error means the Blizzard support program known as Agent was unable to properly run. As the error message indicates, try waiting one minute, then reattempt. If that fails, restart your computer and start the game again. If a restart does not resolve the issue, follow the troubleshooting steps on the Battle.net Update Agent support article. If the above solutions do not help, submit a ticket and include the full text of any error messages you are receiving and when they occur. Attach your system files to the ticket with a detailed description of the problem you are experiencing, when it happens, and the steps you have tried so far to resolve the issue. From the Battle.net Update Agent article: Blizzard Agent Troubleshooting Keywords:Agent, agent.exe, agent process, agent service,d3 agent, updating setup files… The Battle.net Update Agent is designed to make game launching and patching more efficient, especially if you have multiple Blizzard titles running on your computer. Currently, Agent is required for Diablo III and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, and must run in order for those titles to play properly. Agent should shut itself down ten seconds after closing supported Blizzard games. If the Agent process continues running after you shut down any supported titles, restart your computer. You can also end the process manually in Windows Task Manager. Troubleshooting Anything on your computer that interferes with or shuts down Agent may cause issues, including the inability to install or patch our games that require it. It’s also possible that your network is configured in a way that prevents Agent from operating. Security Software Security software (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm) is designed to protect your computer from perceived threats. Many security programs are not game-friendly and will frequently perceive a game installation or update as a threat and shut it down. Security software is the most common cause behind Agent issues. Disabling or temporarily uninstalling these programs will often allow Agent to install or patch properly. Be advised that some security programs will continue to partially run and block Agent even when they are disabled. If you are not comfortable modifying your security software settings, we recommend contacting the software publisher for assistance. View this thread

I am not sure if MSE was on at the time I may have contracted it. I downloaded MSE today and did a full scan. It found some malware and said it would fix. Seemed to go fine. Is my computer likely to be OK, or do I need to do something else? I read that if you download MSE on an infected computer it will make it worse. Is this true. If so is there something I can do on my own. I have little to no $ to spend. I do have start up discs. Will that work or is there something I can do to save my computer without losing everything. If not, can I save photos safely? They are the main thing I don't want to lose. Also, how do I know if I have it or some other virus? View this thread

I have setup WSUS server in our environment. We have all Windows 7 Workstations. I have set 4 - Auto download and schedule the install option with 0 - Every day at 12:00 noon in Group policy on domain. I have approved the required updates as well. Clients workstations are also registered with servers. Only this they don't update automatically as per Group policy. On any workstation, I ran RSOP and it is showing right information about WSUS server and the schedule which I mentioned above. I can go to Control Panel and Windows Update, it shows 'Managed by your system administrator' which is right, and if I check for updates, it shows me all the updates which I have approved on WSUS server. Only thing it doesn't update automatically as per schedule. I have to manually update it. Can anybody help me to resolve this issue please. View this thread
