After being out of town for a week, I used my home computer last night (it had been in Sleep mode). When I went to put it in Sleep mode again, the Sleep button had Shutdown/Update label. Clicked that and left. This morning, the computer is still running, still displaying "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update 1 of 13.." Is a hard shutdown going to cause problems? Thanks. View this thread

these problums have been going on for about 5 months. Each time I try to install it tells me that they failed to install no error code given. Have tried all the fixes that microsoft suggested. Even there Fix-it utility will not download. View this thread

Hi all, So I recently had to do a fresh install on my Vista home premium (x64) machine. Everything was going fine until Microsoft update tried to reinstall KB955430 to clear the way for SP2. When trying to install this I get error 0x80070057 the parameter is incorrect. I've tried safe mode, uninstalling my antivirus, running the SP2 standalone (the first thing it does is try to install 955430 and gives me the same error), the microsoft fix it tool, running the check SUR and an SCF scan and so far nothing has worked. while scanning the computer with microsoft security scanner (msert.exe) this malware was reported "Exploit:Java/CVE-2011-3544.gn!D". The scan results column read "removed". My security essentials was not running today. After checking this forum, I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. After a few hours, I got a message that said I needed to reboot to complete "a clean". Tried to reboot, and windows wouldn't start. Finally did a system restore to an earlier time today and now Security Essentials won't start NOR will it let me reinstall it (says it is already installed) or remove it (says that files are missing). any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a Toshiba Laptop and I am running Windows XP and I am getting an error message when I try to start Microsoft Essentials. The Error Code is 0x80070424 and the screen says Real time protection off and vitus and spyware definitions are out of date. It then instructs me that Security Essentials isn't monitoring your PC because the program service stopped. You should restart it now. When I click on the restart now it gives me another message. Couldn't start the Security Essentials service. The specified service does not exist as an installed service. However when I go to my control panel it is there in my programs. When I try to Check For Updates, I get a message that Windows is unable to check for updates because the service is not running. They suggest I restart my computer, which I've done several times. I am running Windows Vista. View this thread

Hi, Wed 6/13, 2012...PST. Received phone call from man with East Indian accent telling me that my pc is corrupted. Said he is calling from "Win PCS"....Said he has the ID of my pc and is calling to fix the infiltrated virus.....???? Think this is bogus....but wanted Microsoft to know about this. View this thread
