  1. I am getting an error I have never seen before. It's with Windows update. The error says that I can't search for updates because the service is not turned on. The service IS turned on. Also, my update history is blank. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I am running it on a TOSHIBA Satellite L455D-5597S. I don't know what else you need to know. Just ask and I will gladly respond. (As long as it isn't my Product Key, like some guy asked me before.) View this thread
  2. When I try to install MS updates I receive the following error message: "The Applicataion Failed to Start Because SetUpEngine.dll Was Not Found. Re-Installing the Application may fix the problem."I've installed the latest .NET Framework software and I've also run System File Checker, but the error keeps repeating. I've also tried installing MS Updates in Safe Mode, again, with no positive result.Any suggestions will be appreciated.Thank you. View this thread
  3. Security update for windows, KB2686509Size: 488 KBA security issue has been identified that could allow an authenticated local attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this update, you may have to restart your system.More information for this update can be found at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=244692I tried applying it from the web-site, from the local update client and even download it and applied it manually (which is a solution I've found works more often than not, FYI) which is what generated the log file below but nothing works. It still fails and wants to try again. It says there are prerequisites but I can't find out what they are and/or why WINUP doesn't apply them itself. Can you give me a hand. 4. Something seems odd when I get updates from Adobe usually for the flash player. When I click on the update box instead of downloading to my computer I get directed to Adobe.com. Then there the update gets downloaded and installed is that typical now? It is more like if I did not have the flash player installed on my computer and the update is more of a install. Has me just a little confused so hoping somebody can explain what gives with that. Just had a thought would some security updates for windows be the reason this is happening? View this thread
  5. My computer is about a year and a half old, it's an HP laptop, and for the past couple weeks, it tells me I need to install updates constantly. Sometimes, even after I have JUST finished one. If I don't do it, my computer moves at a snail's pace, but it's getting so that I can barely use my laptop without having to do updates about three times an hour. HELP! View this thread
  6. I keep getting pup.crossfire.sa,,,, what is it and how can i prevent getting this file ? View this thread
  7. I didn't really find anywhere to actually submit a notice to anyone mentioning the issue. It's currently resolved at the moment, but could very quickly happen again upon installing more updates. Twice now within the last few days, the headphone jack on my laptop has failed after installing some updates, and then started working again after updates later that day. I can't find anything online, so I feel like this might be a fairly small issue. I know that it's not my laptop, I dual boot Arch Linux and it works fine every single time on there. I don't have any exact evidence that it is Windows update, however the sound card drivers have not changed, and to happen twice exactly after reboot of installing updates seems like that is the only probably causeI have a Toshiba Qosmio x775. When this occurs, the speakers on the laptop still function, but when I try to plug headphones or speakers into the headphone jack on my laptop, they are both silent. Windows recognizes that something has been inserted, as it automatically adjusts the volume setting when I plug it in and pull it back out. If anyone has any ideas to keep this from happening again, that would be appreciated. Obviously disabling updates isn't an option, since Windows has to update constantly for it's many security flaws. 8. I heard about the issue with this update but have not yet experienced any issues, if I uninstall it, will that do any harm to my system. I think I should but then I also think that it might somehow harm my computer, I'm not sure. I needed a professionals opinion (Or someone with a lot of computer knowledge) on whether or not I should remove it or keep it. View this thread
