Microsoft Update is refusing to run via Internet Explorer. I seem to encounter two different errors, and there seems to be no pattern as to which error shows up where or when or why. One is 0x800A138F: The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. I can't remember exactly what the other one was or said, but it was similar. Solutions I have tried thus far: - restarted computer, internet, etc. - added both Windows Update and Microsoft Update to the Trusted Sites (I did this years ago) - reset both the Trusted Sites and the Internet zone settings - ran Microsoft Fix-It from here: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/en-us - attempted to run the windowsupdate.diagcab tool from here: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/windows-update-issues?wa=wsignin1.0 As with numerous other users in this forum, I can not run that .diagcab file. Looking at the numerous posts about this file, no one has yet solved anything. It seems Microsoft has yet to recognize or acknowledge that they're providing a tool that is unuseable. I hope I've provided enough information here to lead to a resolution. I also sent a report through the Fix-It tool when it did not change anything. View this thread

Everytime I try to run as administrator or when I try to do anything that require admin, I get a message that says, "Consent UI for admininstrative applications has stopped working and was closed." It's drasticly slowing down my computer. I've been doing a little a reading online, and some people with this problem are saying its malware that mimics the constent.exe file. I've tried updating and running full scan, but max isnt picking up anything. I use this comp for work sometimes and I cant have this computer messing up on me.Please help me View this thread

I have recently been encountering problems after installing recent updates with the system freezing whenever I close either Firefox, or IE - I have to force close windows by holding power button in and then reboot. My desktop runs Windows 7 Home 64 bit.No problems with desktop for over a year until I installed all the Important and optional windows updates in March when "freezing issue occured". Tried resetting firefox, no success, and could not manage to get any recent resore point to work. I ended up recovering my system from a full Acronis back up that I did in January. I ran windows update (after sorting 8024800A problem with help from these forums) and only installed the numerous Important Updates (lots of them as I had gone recovered my system via Acronis). I did not install the optional updates that included Nvidia , printer and various other windows updates. All was well with no problems and I did full Acronis back up on Monday 8 April. The latest batch of Windows Updates became available on Tuesday and I adopted following approach:a) Installed all Critical/Important updates - with resore point successfully createdb) Installed all optional updates, including large nvidia 9500GT update with resore point successfully created.Insttalling b) took a long time as nvidia update was large but all updates (a & b) were shown as being successfully installed. The freezing problem when closing firefox or IE then cropped up again!I then tried the following:1) Firefox reset - no impact2) Running restore point created before intalling optional updates per b) above. Failed.........3) Rolling back nvidia driver.......failedI then decided to recover my system to its stable state, pre updates, using the backup that I did on Monday.Acronis recovery successful.I then ran windows update which now included Nvidia 9500GT in the Important category (previously optional - methinks another release providing games support for Bioshock etc!), along with the usual Optionals for windows and printers.I believe that Nvidia updates are the source of my problems and have only installed the non NVidia important updates so far.Everthing currently stable. As I only perform basic browsing, email. word, excel type tasks on this pc I do not need a graphics card that can support latest games releases and am planning on following the "if it a'int broken, dont fix it approach!! My old video driver seems to be stable and is not causing problems, and my printer is also working well with no problems.Does the fact that a Nvidia 9500GT update (> 200mb) is now being shown as being important, rather than optional, imply that I am at risk if i do not install? My instince tells me that intalling it will cause me more grief! Is it "safe" to ignore optional windows, printer etc updates and Important/optional nvidia updates so long as i continue intalling Critical/Important Windows updates?Would appreciate feedback re my proposed approach to updates, and on the problem encountered. Is there a way of removing the Important Nvidia update from the list as it seems that I will have to continue ensuring it remains unticked whenever plan to install future important updates.......Many thanks in avance (apologies for somewhat long post)> View this thread

I am receiving the following when running Windows 8 update - Failure configuring Windows Updates, Reverting changes.Code 80070003I had 11 updates to install so I chose to install them one at a time. All installed with the exception of two.Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2779768) Installation status: FailedUpdate for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2770917) Installation status: FailedI ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter and I ran the following DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthNone of this has worked. I looked at the individual updates within each of the updates above (KB2779768 and KB2770917) and ran them individually - some installed others did not. This is frustrating. Really? Hi, This popped up recently as I tried to access ebay. Used MSE to clean it, but everytime I access ebay it brings a fake page and asks for financial details. Need to find out how to remove the Trojan files hidden in the system that keep forcing the page around ebay and paypal. I think I have remnants in the file system, but have tried every way I know to get rid of them. Obviously don't want to do a windows rebuild if I can help it! Any guidance that can be offered would be welcomed. Thanks Mark View this thread

My PC has recently had to be rebuilt from scratch. It now seems to be working fine except that this update is continually needing to be downloaded. When I attempt to install the update it goes through 'preparing to install' create a restore point, it then brings up a box saying 'Welcome to Windows Vista Service Pack 1', then gets me to accept terms and conditions then produces a window telling me it may take several hours to install etc. When I click on install it instantaneously tells me it has installed correctly. Meanwhile the PC continues to tell me (and remind me each time I start up) that I need to install an important update - WINDOWS VISTA SERVICE PACK 1 (KB936330) !!!!!!!!!! View this thread

Microsoft update my software last night and when I started up my computer this morning the highest resolution I have is 1360 x 768. I'm using an external monitor and before this update the resolution was 1900 x 1028. How can I get that resolution back? I've done a system restore and uninstalled the update and still nothing. My home computer has Microsoft Security Essentails installed with Windows Vista. My computer has been affected by the ransomware virus referenced in the title. Since the infection I have run a complete scan using Microsoft SE (from a different user) and it tells me everything is fine. Microsoft SE is up-to-date so I was hoping it would locate this virus and remove it, but didn't. Is there a way to get this virus off my computer? View this thread

Today,4/11//13, I downloaded the recommended updates for Microsoft Security Essentials. Is it necessary to also download the optional one the Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138? It's listed as optional but I don't really know if it is necessary to download it. I don't know what changes it will have on the other download. So, I'm asking you - do I NEED it? Thank you for your time. *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, Barbara Emerson. View this thread

After the updates a copy of my excel.exe program file was taken with the suffix .bak I tried to run Excel by double clicking on the icon but nothing happened. I suspect the problem is fix KB2813170. I am running the cheapest version of Microsoft Office 2013 which I think is called student and home. It is the English US version. Word does not run either. View this thread

I HAD Kaspersky Pure Security Suite installed on my computer until a few days ago when it allowed malware through. They would help me get rid of the MANY programs, files, worms, and many other etc.'s coming through SO I took four days (without ANY sleep) and removed everything myself after uninstalling the program. I installed Security Essentials and the FIRST two times I ran it in Full mode everything was fine. It caught bugs and malware. I did just a BIT of tweeking of my computer today (i.e.: I downloaded a pop-up blocker as I just could not get rid of them no matter WHAT browser I used). It was of no use. It didn't block anything. I unistalled it OBVIOUSLY. It's of no use. I also had to delete and wipe a bunch of other programs that snuck in even with Windows Security Suite. Probably rode in with the download (yes, one MUST read all that fine print... I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere within it when one clicks on "accept" that somewhere in there you are agreeing to give up your first born). SO, I decided to run a full scan again starting about 14 hours ago. I keep restarting it and every single time it stops at C:windowsSystem32CoIntegritydriver.stl. BTW, I am NOT a programmer. I haven't even done anything with programming since 1989 and that was in the days of PC-DOS. Of course, Microsoft's founder was probably still sucking his thumb at that time. Then Microsoft bought PC-DOS from IBM and well, I gave up on programming then. Needless to say it wasn't easy for me to take this piece of **** apart and try to figure out what to do with it. When I say "piece of ****", I'm referring to the fact that this is SUPPOSED to be a custom built H.P. notebook that I paid $2,000.00 for direct from H.P. It's off the subject but I advise anyone withing reading distance NOT to trust H.P. to follow through on their promises as they WILL NOT be honored. This is NOT a professional, custom built notebook. Don't buy Kaspersky either. While it WAS a great program, it now has holes in it (all of them DO, but MOST major providers have service and support. Kaspersky DOESN'T. Anyway, not being a puter wiz, I don't have a clue why it keeps stopping right there or what that CoIntegritydriver.stl even is. I DO KNOW that Trojans USUALLY start with "System32" but then so do MANY other essential files SO I'm very apprehensive about manual deletion. PLEASE TELL WHAT TO DO!!! PLEASE!!!! Thank you SO very much! Karen View this thread
