What has changed in Windows 7 that does not allow me to use 'Legacy' USB serial ports. What was the thinking behind changing something that was working fine before the 'Expurts' (note the spelling) changed something that was working perfectly well before they fiddled (for no known reason) I have downloaded 'New' drivers but still get a yellow warning in device manager and the ports do not work. I have various manufacturers comm ports and none will work - drivers do not load sucessfully under Windows 7. Downloading the 'correct' drivers from the net also doesn't work. Unfortunately my laptop was bought with Windows7 Home Basic pre-installed and this has been nothing but a pain from day 1. I cannot install XP over my existing system and if I want to run a dual boot system I have to upgrade - at my cost - not cheap !!!! I am beginning to lose faith in Microsoft and, as a design engineer of experience of before Windows existed, I am a little miffed to say the least. Please can I have a solution to this problem. I am coding in Visual C version 6/8 and cannot test under a Windows 7 environment. XP SP3 works like a dream and is definately my OS of choice. View the thread

This is a new install of Windows 7 on a Samsung SSD 840, 120GB. The BIOS recognizes the SSD as 120GB, BUT Windows 7 recognizes the same SSD as a 111.8GB How do I tell windows to recognize the full 120GB. Thanks for helping. JB. View the thread

When I try to download a file from a trusted website, as the file finishes downloading a message comes up, "Failed - virus detected", so I right click on this and I get a tab "More information", which leads me to a google website dedicated to download errors, which informs me that, "Antivirus software detected a virus. Your downloaded file may have a virus, as a result the file you attempted to download was removed by the Windows Attachment Manager." So I look up windows attachment manager and find that if I enter gpedit.msc in the run programs bar and follow directions I will alleviate this problem. The trouble is I don't have anything in my group policy folder and as I can't download I can't install one. View this thread

I had been using IE as my browser in Windows XP and had just changed to Chrome about an hour & a half before the following happened: I was online, and suddenly a window popped up with some kind of warning which I didn't understand. I am not very computer savvy. I do remember it said something to the effect that if this happened again, I would need to resolve the problem (in more technical language, of course.) About that time another window came up with an update to Adobe and when I clicked to install it, I found out that I was no longer online and couldn't get back online. I am using Windows 7 now on another computer and am wireless on both computers. I ran the diagnostic test and got the above message, that "network adapter status not healthy." Tried to start "Help and Support" service and received error "Windows could not start the help and support service on Local Computer" along with the subject error code. Searched Microsoft.com and could not find a solution. Ran 'services.msc' to fix and start help and support and received above message and error. Also ran "sfc" and no corrupt or missing files found. Tengo una impresora Canon MP250 series, el dia 04/04/13 la di reset por cambio de tinta, en la tarde mi windows 7 enterprise se actualizo y al siguiente día ya no me funciono, ya probé de todo para actualizar, borrar, e instalar nuevos drivers, incluso entre a la opción de restaurar windows antes de la actualización cuando me funciono la impresora por ultima vez pero no. Tengo el disco de instalación de mi impresora pero no me deja instalar los MP DRIVERS lanza un mensaje diciendo: el proceso de instalación no puede continuar porque el servicio de cola de impresión se ha detenido. Reinicie el equipo para volver a reiniciar este servicio e inténtelo de nuevo. la verdad es que la e reiniciado no se cuantas veces, baje drivers directamente de la pagina de canon, entre al servicio técnico de canon y aun no soluciono el problema, creo que el problema es de windows porque la impresora cuando la enciendo se conecta y windows update intenta instalar pero al final del proceso no logra resolver la falla de controlador. Have used the Paint program for years, no problems. Suddenly, each time I print I get a very tiny copy as though it has been decreased about 75%. If I try to enlarge before printing, etc., it gives me anywhere between 10 and 20 blank sheets before giving me a very tiny copy. I have used different printers with same result. I like this Paint program and would like to get it back to where it used to be. View the thread
