I have Windows 8 on my Acer Aspire One D255 netbook computer, and I am trying to multi-boot it with my copy of Windows XP. I had everything prepared. I get an external disc drive that supports the following: CD+, CD- and CD ROM DVD+, DVD-, DVD RAM and DVD ROM Blu-Ray I inserted the disc and restarted my netbook. I was on the setup and it said "Setup is loading Windows XP..." on the bar at the bottom of the screen. Around two seconds afterwards, I got a blue screen error. How do I get rid of the blue screen and carry on with the setup? View this thread

Can Windows Contacts sync with Active Directory? We're one of a few subcontractors and the email addresses and phone numbers are not centrally maintained and easily accessible. My issue was caused by using McAfee. The only way I can connect to the internet is if I start my computer in "safe mode". I have since removed McAfee from my computer, but I still cannot connect to the internet in nomal start-up mode. When I run a diagnostic, I get the messege: "DNS server isn't responding" & "Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the refresh button." At the MS tech support recommendation, I have already tried 1. performing a clean boot 2. reseting internet explorer 3. Typeing these commands in the black screen then reboot computer after performing these steps b. Netsh int tcp reset c. Netsh int ipv4 reset i. (XP) netsh int ip reset d. Netsh winsock reset e. Netsh winhttp reset proxy f. Netsh advfirewall reset g. Ipconfig /flushdns h. Ipconfig /release i. Ipconfig /renew j. Ipconfig /registerdns None of these recommendations fixed my problem. I have no idea if this is an IE or Windows issue. Any other suggestions???? View the thread

I was gonig through nmy update log and noticed that there was a long list of failed updates for Host process. I have a gateway M series laptop,32Bit vista OS. I just got my update srevice working and it. I tried to check my event log ,but the snapin did not work. I have Windows Vista Home premium and like to reduce the sreen display horizontally, I hope someone is able to help, I am only an user and to old which means not growing up with computers. Although my wifi-linked Marantz consolette plays WAV files fine from WMP on my PC, WMP seems to convert WMA lossless files to MP3 rather than WAV for playback. Is there anyway of forcing WMP to convert to WAV in DLNA. View the thread

For years I have used AVAST PR and loved it, but not the yearly ransom I had to pay. So, a couple of days ago I decided to install Microsoft Security Essentials after reading good reviews of it as well as Microsoft brags about how it did NOT slow down your system. Now it takes forever to load a web page and my email, games are "jerky", download of photos are "scanned for virus" which I surely don't need to waste time on, and other symptoms of a sluggish system that used to be nice and fast and smooth.Is there something in the settings I can change to stop this agony or do I need to revert to AVAST?I am running Windows XP, system is clean of any virus, trojans etc. This issue only arose after installing MSE. I recently bought a new computer with Windows 7 but my music library from Window Media Library didn't get transferred as wma files. They still play on my Window Media Player but I am trying to copy them to a new digital music player and it indicates that I don't have the rights. But all of my new cd purchases are getting downloaded to WMPlayer in the correct format. I tried to delete one of my albums and then downloaded it and it works perfectly. Windows Media Player tries to burn a DVD when a CD-R is in the magazine. When BURN is right clicked in WMP in order to select media it seems to concentrate on only image copying not copying the data program we down-loaded from BluRay in order to upgrade the BluRay-player's firmware. We keep being reminded to back-up our files but, there seems to be only image reproduction from WMP. I know, Windows MEDIA player ! Suppose we wanted to back-up an ordinary printed letter onto a cd-r ? I sure am missing SOMETHING ! And, now I cannot find Drive "F' which is the the drive we used to use for CD's. I down loaded Zone Alarm and have try to remove it by restore and it didn't work. Once you down load it, it locks its self into your computer and you can't get rid of it. The problem is inconsistent. I recently replaced the power supply as the PC would not start on first (or second) cold boot and a forum suggested a weak power supply. I had purchased a retail copy of the Family Pack Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade and had activated the license on 3 computers. One of the computers suffered a power surge and needed to be replaced. I did so and installed a copy of Windows XP Professional I had and then installed this Windows 7 upgrade but it will not allow me to activate Windows now indicating I had used up the licenses. On an HP w/ AMD processor that has recently had a Clean Reinstall, I can't update to Service Pack 3. Every time that I try it won't boot except for Safe Mode. If I try Windows Update I get Error 0X8007043C. At one webpage it said that I needed Framework 2.0 (I have ver 1.1). I found that but the install failed. Later I found instructions for installing Framework 4.0. That installed correctly, but when I manually installed Service Pack 3, again I could not boot. Had to restore SP2 again, third time.
