  1. Help for me is right, its not listed on the Dell site as having IDE, which Brings us back to the question
  2. I'm inclined to think that your Hard drive has died, but if you wait till Tooteck or Dalo see this thread they will advice you better than I can and how best to proceed from here.
  3. Hi Error code 0f00 13712 does not look good :( would be ether your cd/dvd drive or hd drive very much doubt it being a mouse as that would be USB, was you trying to boot from the vista DVD? or have you tried booting from the DVD? can you tell us what happened prior to this problem? or if your HD drive was making any unusuall noises? and have you checked in your Bios settings that the HD drive is set as the Boot Device?
  4. Cool a story with a happy ending :)

  7. Someone mention 'PARTY'! O yea I'm old with kids now:o Happy Birthday Mike, Make the most of it :)
  8. I think that the question is how much do you want to spend, at the weekends I link a laptop into a 3k (3000watt PA system) but that will cost around £5000 to set up !! I've had a quick look on the net and there are some gadgets that you can get like These but at the end of the day you will probably do just as well getting some cheap PC speakers with a headphone socket on. like this or you can try Beeceebee's suggestion as that sounds quite feasible and free
  9. Hi Flame sure someone here can help in someway :) Beeceebee you fooled me I thought you came from Ireland and now lived in New Jersey :) should have checked the time zones I'd have known by when you post
  10. OK I've solved this problem a couple of days ago :) Basically is down to Run as Administrator Compiler and the command window if you wanted to know!! If anyone can still help point me in a Vista based tutorial then that would be appreciated as their seems to be differences between C++ for Vista and XP which isn't surprising as its an environment dependant language (if that's the right phrase), or maybe I should just try jumping up a step to C# or Java? any advice would be gratefully received as it been 25 years since I tried programming
  11. refresh rate should be in Htz and I've never heard of a resolution below 800 x 600 and the so you should be able to get 1280 x 720
  12. Hi have you checked the refresh rate settings should be in the same section as your screen resolution?
  13. OK I'm sorry but it does sound like you have a fault with the card, but before you give up on it I'll leave a message for the hardware experts Tootech and Dalo, they will know more and be able to advise you better. but we needed to rule out the simple options first.
  14. according to the manual that I just found on the dell site I'm not saying that your manual is wrong or says different, but I do know that for your monitor to work from a graphics card it needs to be plugged into that graphics card. what I suggest is that you unplug the second monitor for now and try just plugging one monitor into the graphics card and seeing what the device manager says and then come back to us, and I'll go find a moderator and request he reads through the thread and takes it over as you don't seem to happy with my advice.
  15. Hi dean can you give us some information about your machine What Make and model what happened just before it developed the fault you say you have tried a different monitor and adding a graphics card are you sure that both of these were in good working order can you also give us some info on what happens when you turn it on, do you get any beeps can you hear the fans and hard drive working?
  16. The connector at the top is for the on board graphics (graphics card embedded in the motherboard) which as your device manager quite rightly says are Intel®82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset. When you say the one on the Graphics card is blank do you mean nothing plugged into it. if so try plugging your monitor cable into the VGA slot on your Graphics card.
  17. graphics and sound cards should just be a straight swap over.
  18. can you please tell us what Antivirus software your using, what firewall and what antispyware,
  19. Can I just check where you have your monitor lead plugged in? you should have two VGA connectors on the back of your computer, one at the top below where the power supply plugs in and one down the bottom on your graphics card. Picture of VGA connector
  20. basically without going into too much detail. there are a set of jumper pins on the back of the drive, and depending on where you place the jumper connection depends on how that drive works IE as a Master drive or slave drive, provided that the drive is still working when it is set as a slave drive you should be able to read the files of it and your computer will recognise it as ither a D:\ or E:\ drive depending on what you set it as in the bios.
  21. Hi Xeqt again :) afraid not the only way that you could possibly save whats on that HDD (if it hasn't been fried) would be to put it in as a second drive (Slave) other that that you would have to formate it and load the OS back onto it as it configures itself to your motherboard as it installs.
  22. Hi Xeqt That's a good question and I think the best person to answer that Would be Dalo, who as I understand will be around Monday, as to whether anyone else can answer this question for you before then I don't know. but please check back.
  23. Hi redgey First can I ask If you have replaced this card, because if you have and knocked your graphics card it might be as simple case of the graphics card needs re-seating (pressed into its slot properly) Secondly is your Graphics card registered in your device manager and if so what does it say about it there? Control Panel/Hardware and sound/Device Manager/Display adapters/(right click)on your graphics card/properties
  24. Hi Gavjam can you give us a little more information about your PC like Make and Model could you please tell us how its connected to the internet and could you please tell us if this is a problem with specific sites or sites in general and what type of files your trying to down load
  25. lol I always wondered what happened if you done that :) never tried it though in case it damaged the drives
