Do you have more than one hard drive and are you trying to set them up as Raid? or have you just added a new hard drive or changed the original?

I think the first Key question is what budget do you have? and what do you want to use the PC for?

I think it would lead to confusion as Goku said, Because alot of people wouldn't know whether their question had a simple answer or not, what might be useful is a commonly asked question and answer section, or step by step guides on how to.

Thanks Tootech, Just a bit of a new situation for me as when you buy a new machine from a shop it comes with OS and licence, when you build it you have to sort this out for yourself, this will be the first time that I have had two home built machines, and while I was working out how many penny's I need to save up. I thought do I really need to pay for another OS, and the answer is yes if you want to connect to the internet. Thanks for the link it may be really useful, but now I have a dilemma on when Windows 7 is going to be released

Mines a Proper full version, but I've been looking at the Microsoft site trying to find the info on licensing, and after page after page link after link trying to sell me another full copy I've found out, at least I think that I can upgrade the licence on my disk for half the price of a full copy.

I'm debating replacing my partners PC for Christmas 09, with a duel core spec machine and hence forth would be looking at running Vista on it, I was just wondering if I could get away with using my copy of Vista as both PC's, they will be connected to the internet through the same router, or if I use the same key on both machines the second would be rejected? can anyone clarify the legality's of the licencing on Vista?

Sorry but there is a bit of a contradiction of terms there, Free AVG anti virus isn't any good, talking from experience.

Recently I have been having problems with my monitor screen being blurred, this effect became worrying when it started to affect my printer, news papers and generally any other written media, after trying various fixes I decided that professional help was needed, and went to see an optical engineer who after a little testing decided that their was a need for some optical filters, after fitting these filters I can say that I am pleasantly surprised at the clarity and focus of my monitor and all other written media. I would recommend that anyone with a similar problem make an appointment with there nearest optical engineer immediately, the one I used can be found at your local opticians :)

I have known this to happen in Win 98, and was caused by a virus? just a thought as you said you've added a lot of files.

I think a good first step would be to follow these instructions, not only will it make sure your system is clean, but should remove any unwanted files. and if you get back to us after we will see what else we can do to speed things up.

we have three components here CPU (little square thing lots of gold pins), heat sink, and heat sink fan, did you separate any of them three, and or remove them from the main motherboard? Did you use a vacuum or compressed air to clean it?

I was trying not to say that. but at the end of the day with modern Electronics, and multi layered PCB boards changing components rarely works. :(

I Think that if you had placed the screens back in the wrong position you wouldn't be getting lines (I'm assuming that they are fuzzy blurred lines), which makes me think that when the Cap popped that it's damaged an IC somewhere affecting the signal that's been sent to the transistor matrix for the screen.
