  1. Porcupine vs. Pit Bull (guess who lost??)
  2. Will wonders never cease!! My late mother (God rest her soul) spent almost a month in and around London. She swore that she never saw the sun during the whole time of her visit. Her original plans were for Italy and Sicily (where her Father's people are from) but changed her mind at the last minute. Anyway, welcome to the forum. So far, the sun shines every day here. :)
  3. That was borderline terrible. Not so much the body gyrations, but the noise they portray as music really stinks. How many times can a group of people repeat "BearForce1"?? I have a habit of listening to music (when I really want to rate a song) without watching the video. Nowadays, poor musical performances are made more acceptible by better video performances. @ wooman12, no offense intended toward you. :D You have broadened my musical experience to EXCLUDE this band from torturing me in the future. Thank you............
  4. This may help: You randomly receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error in Storport.sys when you start Windows Vista You might also pose your problem to the Vista Forum (not that I'm trying to run 'business' away from FreePCHelp): Problems with Windows Vista x64 Startup. Errors:0x0000000A, 0x0000007E - Vista Forums
  5. Peace, Love, Hope...................
  6. Earlier, I was RotFLMAO about the complete turnaround of this thread. Glad I could provide the kindling to start such a roaring bonfire. It's like a community where all members are related in some way and we all like each other to varying degrees (or are at least POLITE to one another). It does a heart good to see and participate in a good will effort supported by folks from all over the globe. World 'leaders' could and should take a lesson from this. Fat chance, Huh?? Brian
  7. My 18 y.o. daughter likes Linkin Park. I listen to them as a courtesy to her. In defense of her musical tastes, she likes REAL music from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's too. Country, Rock, Metal, Pop, everything. Even the dreaded Hip-Hop, but NO gangsta' rap. After all, she DOES have her Dad's brain!!
  8. I saw Hendrix at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, TN back in tha late 1960's. The other bands there were Rufus and Carla Thomas & Booker T and the MG's. I also saw Hendrix at the New Orleans Pop Festival in August of 1969.
  9. You're more than welcome, and I agree completely with your reasoning. My 1st computer was a "close-and-play" (name brand, off the shelf eMachines 500is) and I swore it would be my last. I've built everyone since then from scratch. IMO, it's the only way to soar with the Eagles.
  10. I was fortunate enough to be (musically) introduced to Cat Stevens in the 1970's. POWERFUL is the best one word description I can come up with. He was on The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno a week or so ago. Very Good. Listening to Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) is like enjoying a fine liqueur after a gluttunous meal (Heavy Metal), to cleanse the figurative palate of blood and guts.
  11. Gotta' add Deep Purple, Motley Crue, and Metallica to the HM list.
  12. It's a oneway ticket bought through a travel site. I'll take $150 USD for it.
  13. No, not if you want playable framerates in 1st person shooter games. BTW, the 9600 GT card you referred to will probably disappoint you as well. At a MINUMUM I'd get a 9800 GT: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-N98TOC-512I GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards . I just bought one for my #2 computer and am surprised at it's capabilities. It also come with a Zalman aftermarket cooler to keep operating temperatures very low. The cooler takes up extra room, so you'll have to make sure it will fit before you make the purchase. The bottom line is you will have to purchase a higher output PSU first. Name brand computers generally utilize the smallest PSU's possible to help their bottom line, with no regard for future upgrades. After some research, I've determined a GeForce 9800 GT card will require a system with a PSU capable of producing a minimum of 26 amps on the +12 volt rail. Different manufacturers will meet these requirements with a myriad of different wattage ratings. Some will be 400 watts, some 500 watts, or even 550 watts. The key here is to follow Plastic Nev's advice and determine BEFOREHAND what style/brand higher output PSU will mount and plug into your computer with no hassles. PSU name brands to look for are: Corsair & OCZ. This is by no means all inclusive as there are more high quality brand name units available, but many more that are JUNK. DO NOT scrimp on your PSU. This is one of the most important components of a computer, and a cheap PSU can and will cause all sorts of grief.
  14. With a "name brand "computer, upgrading the PSU can sometimes be a monumental task. More than a few of them use proprietary connectors and/or can be an unusual size or shape, and upgrading is more involved than just picking out a unit and plugging it in. The computer in question may not fall into that category, but chances are it does. @ wooman12: FYI, a new PSU (if you can find one that will work in your computer) to run a medium to high power GPU (video card) could add upwards of $85 USD to the cost of the GPU upgrade.
  15. At the risk of belaboring the point, let me say that I had NO intention of trying to modify or suggest changes to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help's SOP (Standard Operating Proceedure) when I made the original post. The subtitle of this section is: "Topics, thoughts, news items, points of view etc that don't fit anywhere else", so I took the opportunity to express my opinion on one of my pet peeves. If I misunderstood the purpose of this portion of your website, let me know and I will no longer share what's on my mind. Personally, it doesn't matter to me HOW the powers that be handle anything @ FreePCHelp, and my intent wasn't to start an adversarial discussion. As a matter of fact, I didn't expect any response or discussion at all. Just a cranky old so-and-so letting off some steam.
  16. I surely wasn't suggesting you or anyone else assume the task of re-titling these type posts. That would be akin to punishment. At least one of the help sites 'out there' has a quick and short primer on their rules of engagement. They require the title to reveal the content of a post or they deep six the help request. An excellent way to do business, IMO. You know, something like: "HDD makes grinding noise", "Monitor blew up and took my cat with it", "Smoke billowing out of computer case". Really simple and to the point.
  17. I use RAID 0, and all I can say is Backup, Backup, Backup.
  18. As I suspected, your PSU is on the small side. 19 amps on the +12 volt rail will limit your card selection. Your best bet is to visit a site such as NewEgg (even if you don't order from them), find a card in your price range, then click on the specifications tab on the card's page and scroll down to where the system requirements are listed. Many will list a wattage rating (and most important) a current (amps) requirement for a "standard" system. If the card/system's power requirement is higher than what your PSU will provide, do not buy the card. You should be looking for a card with atleast a 192-bit interface and 512MB of GDDR3 RAM. The more Stream Processors, the better.
  19. OK, I have to get this off my chest before I explode. I cringe and begin to think all kinds of illegal and torturously cruel thoughts when a person titles a post with something like: "PLZZZZZZZZ HELP!!", "HELP ME PLZZZZZ!!", or something just as nondescript and disgustingly pitiful. If I owned a PC help site, a post like that would go straight to the *&^%$#@! can. Thanks, I feel better now......................:D
  20. You did a very good job of supplying the vital statistics for your computer. Unless I overlooked it, I can't seem to find the +12 volt output of the PSU (power supply). Brand name computers (HP, Compaq, Gateway, eMachines, to name a few) are notorious for installing low powered PSU's. Your motherboard does have a PCI-e x 16 slot, so you could conceivably install most any card you want. Some of the more powerful cards might overpower your PSU's +12 volt output. The overall wattage rating of the PSU can be useless information in this case. Will you remove the side of the case and look at the label affixed to the side of your PSU and provide the +12 volt current rating (expressed in Amps). Thanks..............
  21. THANK THE LORD!! Now I can cash in the plane ticket to Swansea and stop saving for the ring. Now...................let's see who is next on my list. Meanwhile:
  22. That's a good one.......... :jaw: Don't you know the vet bill was outrageous??
  23. No, you're right JB. :D We keep falling for women's wiley ways; only to discover (too late) it's Deja Vu all over again. Just ask me, you know I'm a 3 time loser. I do have a beautiful, smart daughter whom I love very much to show for my efforts to flaunt the statistics though.
  24. Yup, civilization started it's Bobsled ride to H**L when the courts and "Civil Liberties" groups removed corporal punishment from the classroom. Kids (and many of their parents) no longer have any respect for law, order, and legitimate authority.
