boot from the cd,and do a repair install on the c: partition.... make sure you dont have a floppy disk in the drive when your pc is booting.... a repair install or a format and install of c: is probably going to be the quickest fix.

(right click my computer>manage>services) then rename the "software distribution folder this is found in c:\windows\software distribution.rename it to softwaredistributionold or similar. then restart the windows update service.reboot your pc and then re update your machine give those a try

i would recommend using some.partition resizing software.like paragon partition magic. or clone your hard drive to another with the correct partition sizes, then clone it back to your hard drive...does a friend have a spare hard drive,or can you purchase one. if so i recommend a piece of software called caper xp.it will clone your hard drive within xp,and allow you to resize partitions, and saves all your data,os,documents, setting you get the idea,a complete mirror. i wouldnt mess about with in windows because you may leave your hard drive unbootable. alternativly point your itunes to your d: drive.that way your music store will be on there. if that is more better for you let me know.and i will get you the instructions...it has een ages since i used itunes,i didnt like it and found it pointless.there is better software out there. let me know if i can help more. regards danzil

it is never a really good idea to havbe 2 anti viruses running at the same time.to remove norton use the symantec removal tool download it from http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039. regarding itunes, try to delete the apple folder in application data.to do this go to c:\ then click on tools>folder options then tick "show hideenfiles.folders.click ok now browse to c:\documents and settings\"your username"\application data\apple(maybe apple computer\then delete itunes. then restart your pc and try to see if it will load.also do you have the latest version of quick time installed. just so we know there isnt anything lurking in there causing this can you do the following go to start>run>enter "msconfig"without quotes,t hen go to the startub tab, list what is in there and let us know, also click on the services tab, tick hide all microsoft services, then also list what is in there. i know it may be a pain in the rear, writing all the entries down, but this will help us know if you have something starting up when you turn your machine on,that may be causing this. post back, and i will see if i can help you further. regards danzil

each to there own really i like macs and pc's.... yep sounds like a device issue can you try another monitor.is this pc under warrenty...my be an idea to get hold of a old graphics card and check that.or borrow one from a friend if poss..... the reason why windows can still load a display withou radeon drivers,is because it has its own universal so to speak driver,a generic driver for most well every card i have tried... you can et a really nice card nowadays for £60 if you look in the right places. sorry just got re-read your post,,,it doesnt flash about in safe mode...well that really is pointing to a driver... try this go to start>run type in "cmd" without qoutes, click on the startup tab then untick all.then restart see if that stop the flicking. -
try this go to start then run and copy this in "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\ie.inf" without qoutes "".... now see if you have the icon in the internet explorer folder. if not try another search.. beware you maybe prompted for your cd........ give that a try..

can you gain access to task manager or the run command.if so type sfc /scannow,it may prompt you for the cd, do you have xp pro or home edition,,you may want to check to see if a group policy has been setup....items have came into my shop with similar issues to yours.
-
you need to be tapping f8 the minute the pc turns on if you do,and still get to the windows xp logo then the options will to show......how long has this issue been going on...you could always try system restore whne you are logged into one of the other accounts, that you stated worked. regards danzil
-
as for the sound, can you here anything at all.check in device manager and make sure the driver is still install also check to make sure your display adapter driver is installed also.. you will know if you have drivers missing because there will be a yellow ! exclamation mark next to them.... if there is just re-install them. unfortunatly windows 2000 doesnt have system restore.do you using nt backup or have any other backups.do you have your driver cd's

it really is pointing to a driver issue or maybe a heat issue. what is the make of graphics card you have i will get you a link to the latest driver. to find out what card it is go to start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager. then the make of your card will be under "display adapters". maybe worth downloading a benchmarking programme like sisoft sandra or everest to see if you can find out the temperature of your card when the resolution is set high.. may also be worth reseating the graphics card, stranger things have happened this may rectify the issue... Try some of the suggestions then let us know and i will see where we can go from there. -
well thats a strange one,,what i would do is add another user (this being your new account),then log in to it,make sure it is has admin rights.then go to my computer>c:>documents and settings. then go into your old account and copy everything from there to your new account.your programmes will all be ok.the only thing you may have to reset up is your email...but i can guide you through restoring your old emails and calender etc. if you do this please make sure you unhide hidden files and folders, and operating system files, in folder options.tools>folder options. let me know if that helps.
