  1. can you uninstall kapersky and then recheck you emails..... Kapersky may have corrupted your outlook profile....... what kapersky version are you using......you may have to add some rules to allowing pop3 or smtp settings etc... if your profile is corrupt then i will guide you through backing up outlook express.and then setting up your account and restoring your emails. regards danzil
  2. oh ok........ right can you try thr following... grab the laptop screen at the corners and GENTLY flex the screen, does the line move or dissapear.... it is possible the screen has failed,,,is it under warrenty. is all the cable's inserted firmly and securely. it is also possible that the inverter board maybe failing causing the issues with the tft. try the following regards danzil
  3. try booting into safe mode and see if it does the same thing.....tap f8 at startup so you can see the boot options.then select safe mode..... regards danzil
  4. go to start>control panel>system>device manager is the cd/dvd drive found in there,,,,is there any exclamation marks anywhere in there...... have you installed all motherboard drivers etc regards danzil
  5. do you have a recovery cd that came with the laptop.or do oyu have the operating system cd..... try booting from them and just do a repair install of xp... this is a software related issue so there is no need for a new laptop. regards danzil
  6. agp pci and pci express are all different type of slot on your motherboard. agp is mainly used for graphics card.(emachines i gues that is what you would have). pci is what you use for all other devices but you can use a graphics card in them too. and pci express (pci/e) is the newest graphics slot out to date (i believe) this runs up to twics the speed of agp. i hope that helps clear up your question a little. pci is usually a white slot. agp is brown and pci express is usually white also but looks like a mix of pci and agp... unless you have a nice colourfull board then it could be any colour regards danzil
  7. is the audio from the front panel housed in a block or are they indivdual wires.... there is no spec really as to the case. i ask for motherboard model, because if it has been taken in for repair before, the board may of been replaced. i can not help anymore unfortunatly until i know about header.....i will see if i can get a motherboard diagram.. i really dont want to diagnose your machine with the wrong thing...i would like to be able to give you a 100% solid solution i ask these questions as to the board because if it had been replace or not.you may or may not have HD audio the wiring is slightly different to the audio header then standard audio on most boards leave it with me i will post back ASAP regards danzil

  15. no probs mate regards danzil
  16. ok 1st thing to check is if you have connected the power for the p4 if you have one....this is a 4 pin block,,yellow n black.that needs to be connected. if that doesnt work then take the cmos battery out (silver rounded battery)leave it out for 30 mins then pop it back in and try again. resit your ram also....if you have more then 1 stick try them individually...when removing them make sure the pc is off and that you keep your hand on the psu to earth yourself.....the slightest bit of staitc will kill parts in your machine..... kind regards danzil
  17. if the ones at the front work then there isnt really an issue with drivers. please check the on board audio header check and double check...if a cable is in the wrong position then this will screw with the back audio. is the cable that go to the front audio sat in on block or are they indivdual... tell you what, what case, and motherboard make do you have,,i will see if i can get a wiring diagram and then send you a pic of the correct positioning, i will need these to correctly help you... it is definatly a good sign that the front audio is working. kind regards danzil
  18. no probs julie glad to help kind regards danzil
  19. that should run exactly the same as your card you have now.....it may need extra power but you will get an adaptor with the new card. just be aware of what slot you buy it for ie agp or pci/e kind regards danzil
  20. is the hard drive being found by the bios still. is there any excessive noise coming from the hard drive,,,like clicking n clunking,or stop and starting (sounds like a whzzing noise). what was your daughter doing before all this happened kind regards danzil
  21. as maynardvdm said "you may be lucky if its just the power supply". ouch voltage overload.....just boro a psu from a friend or obtain an old one... if you put the new psu in and nothing happens try removing the cmos battery for 30 mins.this will reset all.then pop it back in and try again. the switch at the back as you probably now know is for 115v when you switch it you let 230-250v go down through your board....i hope your board is ok...ge thold of a power supply then post back...they are cheap as anything now... kind regards danzil.
  22. hi. i do not use pc pit stop or any so called registry software.... i use nod32 for av,ewido for adware etc,and ccleaner for useless stored items. i run a ewdio scan, then a nod32 scan then run ccleaner......i then use disk cleanup if needed and then run a defrag..... i dont use any software to keep my pc at top performance as half of them are either full of spyware (my opinion) and /or not adequate to do the job. i keep msconfig clean to speed up pc booting times...i use a few registry tweaks but nothing major. thats all i use..some one out there may no some legitimate decent software.... windows live one care is good....the free online check up is worth a go..i use it once a month. on average my pc takes 15-20 to boot into xp and 30-40 to boot to vista..which im very happy with...it all boils down to how much ram, cpu, and free space on your hard drive you have really kind regards danzil
  23. thisi son anotheer post,,can this be closed so not to confuse people.mainly me lol kind regards danzil
  24. with dell, you should have a recovery cd..or a button to tap at start up to launch recovery..... your operating system was probably installed using OPK or ghost imaging.so you should not be asked for your "product KEY".and it may already be activted when install. Microsoft allow big comapnies like Dell to activate xp already using gets activated to the dell bios.. can ou get on start then type in the run box msconfig then click on start up...what is in there,,try disabling them all then rebooting...also have you tried system restore in safemode yet (keep tapping f8 at startup). try the above then let me know. kind regards danzil
