  1. Hi 666Vortex, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Your post has been moved to it's own thread. Could you please explain what your problem is. Thankyou..
  2. You mentioned your heatsink/CPU fan... Just how is the fan mounted in relation to the heatsink?
  3. Hi Qwerty1, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I don't use Vista myself, but it would seem that this is a common problem. Before we embark on what should be the cure. You shoud set a System Restore point. Setting the new restore point: Press the Flag key on your keyboard. Go: All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore Follow the instructions to create a new restore point. Do this: Press the Flag key...or click the windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen. Right click Computer Click Manage In the System Tools section double click Local Users and Groups Click Groups Right click Administrators Click Add to group Click Add Click Advanced Click Find now Double click Local Service Click OK Click Apply > Click OK Close all the windows and reboot your computer. Let us know how you get on...
  4. Hi Rita, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I hope we are able to help you out with your problems.
  5. It would appear that you have a pirated copy of windows installed on this particular machine. This may not be of your doing. For instance, if you purchased the computer second hand, you would have no way of knowing at the point of purchase. So sadly, I have to say that I'm not able to help you out of this predicament. If you are not able to download Microsoft updates then I'm afraid that your only option is to buy a licenced copy of windows. Sorry I can't be of more help...
  6. Hi Dunnsdale... If as you have stated the Nikon software is not showing in add and remove programs, another option would be to download Revo Uninstaller. Revo Uninstaller Download This is a great program for removing other programs that may not be listed in Add and Remove. You can keep it on your desktop, and when opened it will show you a list (Or icons) pertaining to all of the programs installed on your system. Use the above link to go to the CNET download page for this program. If you scroll down the page you can read what the publishers have to say about their program, and also what CNET themselves think about this FREE software.
  7. Hi Mikey, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I'm afraid I don't know too much about graphics cards myself. But I was wondering if the PC in question has on board graphics that could be used. Is there another socket on the back of the tower?
  8. Hi Jack, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help First off...when you get the BSOD you need to make a note of some of the information given on the screen. Near the top of the screen you should see some text written in upper case. Each word will have an underscore seperating it from the next word. text_text_ text_ etc, etc.......Make a note of this text The next set of information you need to record are the Stop Codes/Hex Codes. These will look something like this...0x00000010x The hex codes can be both letters and numbers. Make a note of these as well. How much RAM do you have installed? And is it all recognised by the system. Just in case you don't know how to check out how much RAM is recognised...Press the Win Key/Flag Key + the Pause Break key on your keyboard to bring up the System Properties window, and the amount of RAM will be shown towards the bottom of the screen. I should add that I'm not an expert on BSOD's, but if you can give the information asked for, then it will help others who are.
  9. Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? Was it made by Dell, Acer, Toshiba, etc... For example my last Laptop was an Acer Aspire 5580. You'll probably find this information written on the casing of your computer. The Intel Celeron D you quoted in your last post is the type of processor you have inside of your computer...That alone does not tell us your make and model. The Bios is the part of the computer where you can make changes to how it is setup. This is not to be confused with the screen that shows the options as to how you want to start your computer. These options include Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, Start Windows Normally, etc. When you first start your computer you should see a black screen for a few seconds that will tell you which key or combination of keys to press to enter the bios. It will say something like... Press (Key/combination of keys) to enter setup...or Press (Key) to enter bios. It's different for each make of computer/motherboard. Once in the bios you should be looking for something like Boot Order. You can highlight your choosen selection by using the arrow keys on your keyboard. And then choose that selection by hitting the Enter key on your keyboard. If on startup the screens flash by too fast to read the text, then press the Pause/Break key to freeze the screen.
  10. Try this: Click Start Go to All Programs Click on Windows Update If you have not already done it...you should see an option to Get Microsoft Update Click Go Follow any instructions given, and download all of the Express updates offered to you. Note: One of the updates offered will be the Genuine Advantage Tool. After downloading and installing this update you will probably be asked to validate your copy of windows...Do it.. This will probably take some time to do, so be patient. After installing all of the Express updates, there is also an option to check out Custom Updates. Check them out, and download any update that you feel may apply to your computer and the way you use it. The difference between the normal Windows Updates and Microsoft Update is that Microsoft update looks at all of the programs you have installed, rather than just Windows programs.
  11. Ok Namu, go to the link I have provided and download the K-Lite codec pack. Let us know how you get on. K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
  12. If your Windows CD does not work, how did you reinstall the operating system? And could you please tell me if the updates are up to date.
  13. Hi Namu, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Just to save any confusion can you verify that you have reinstalled Windows XP Professional, and that you have Service Pack 3 installed. Note: If you have reinstalled Windows, you may not now have SP3 installed! If the above is correct, can you also tell us if you have automatic updates configured, and whether or not you have installed all of the security updates offered to you by Microsoft Update. Note: To use Microsoft Update your copy of Windows must be a licenced copy.
  14. Hi Summerfun..If you could give us a few more details it might help out a little. Make and model of computer Do you have an operating system disk?......(Your computer may have a recovery partition) Can you get into the bios...Is your CD/DVD drive set first in the boot order? Note: To get into the bios you may see something like..."Press F2 to enter setup" on the screen briefly when starting your computer. It may not be F2, but it is often one of the F keys.
  15. Hi AllyG, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I suspect that you are probably correct with your own diagnosis. You have a nasty in there somewhere. I've moved your post to the Malware removal forum. If you wait patiently, one of our resident experts will be along shortly to advise you.
  16. Hi computers R evil, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help..............(Love the nic) Try the link below: Download Windows Live Messenger You can have more than one Browser installed. Open up Internet Explorer and then try the link above.
  17. Hi Cecilia, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help There are three probable reasons as to why you're having this problem... 1. Your charger/adapter is shot. 2. The power socket is defective or has broken away from its board. 3. Your laptop battery is shot. Try this: Remove the battery from your laptop and then plug your adapter lead in and see if your computer starts. Your laptop can run without a battery, and should start up and run normally. With the battery still out, unplug the power adapter and look closely into the power socket. You will see a small metal pin in the centre. Take a matchstick or something similar and gently touch the small pin. If it wriggles about, it has broken away from its board and will need either replacing or resoldering back in position. Note: Some power sockets are mounted on a seperate board to the motherboard, this is often called a power board or daughter board. This board can also be replaced. The cost of either resoldering/replacing the power socket or renewing the daughter board would probably cost between £80 and £100 at a repair shop. The other option is that your laptop battery its self is had it, and needs to be replaced. Although it is worth saying that if you don't use your laptop outside the home, or away from somewhere where you have access to power, you can use it without a battery in it at all. Having said all this, I am assuming that you have given your laptop enough time to charge past the 96% mark. If you post the exact make and model of your laptop, we can establish the cost of any spares you may need...
  18. Hi Dank78, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Try this: Click Start Control Panel Double click the Display icon Click the Settings tab Click Advanced Under Display set the DPI settings to Normal (96 DPI) Click Apply Click OK
  19. Hi Samimjan, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I've moved your post to the Windows 2000 and XP forum. It will receive more attention here rather than in the introductions forum. I think that you should update your graphics drivers. You can do this by going to the manufacturers website. To check the details of your graphics card/integrated graphics go to the Device Manager. Start Right click My Computer Choose Manage from the dropdown Click on Device Manager Look under Display adapters (Click the small plus sign) Here you will see what graphics you have installed. If you are unsure as to what to do, please post your graphics details back here and someone will supply a link for you.
  20. Sorry about the delay Chris... Try this: Turn off the computer, and then switch off the power at the wall socket but leave it plugged in so an earth is maintained. Carefully remove all of the memory modules from the motherboard except for the module in the yellow slot nearest the CPU. This slot should be marked A1. Can you also confirm that you have 4 x 2GB sticks installed.
  21. Hi Madigan, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Re..Second post Try this: Go... Start Control Panel Double click Display Select the Settings Tab Under Color Quality make sure Highest (32bit) is selected Let us know how you get on...
  22. Hi Frantob, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help The reason you are unable to upgrade Media Player is because you already have version 12 (the latest version) installed. This is the version that comes with Windows 7. Hopefully, someone else will come along and throw some light on why you are unable to play video from MUTV. Sorry I can't be of more help...
  23. Hi Wahlflower, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I don't have an answer to your problem, but I'm sure that one of our resident malware experts will be along soon. I notice that you have done a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes. Maybe you could try a full scan to see if anything else is found. This may not make any difference to the results already recorded, but on the other hand something else may crop up..
  24. Hello Chris, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Can you tell us exactly what the error was? See if you can get that screen again, and make a note of the error. Has the clip that secures your RAM stick recently been damaged (Have you removed or reset a Ram module recently)...or has it always been that way? If you can gain access to the bios...Is the bios time and date correct? If not I would suggest replacing the cmos battery. ( Small flat coin like battery, about 20mm in diameter )
  25. Hi Worldude, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Your computer may have a recovery partition (erecovery). To find out if it has, press Alt F10 when starting your computer. If it has a recovery partition you will be able to restore your machine to its factory state. Note: You should back up your personal files before doing this. Although there should be an option to repair windows without losing personal data.
