Guest Roger Fink Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I am unable to access add-remove programs. When I click the icon in the control panel, the add-remove box comes up but there is no information inside it. To get out, I need to reboot; ctrl-alt-del only closes the control panel itself. The above is true for both of the administrator profiles on this machine. How can I fix this?
Guest Dave Patrick Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Re: Can't access add-remove Some possibilities. From the "Run" box try; regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\appwiz.cpl regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\webvw.dll to rebuild several *.htt files If unsuccessful try sfc /purgecache sfc /scannow Or try the regedits described in; Add/Remove Programs Tool Displays Installed Programs Incorrectly http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=266668 ---------------------------------------------------- If the problem persists, you'll likely need to perform an in-place upgrade. Guest Roger Fink Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Re: Can't access add-remove Strangest thing - I cold-booted up this a.m., and almost as an afterthought tried to open add-remove. It worked. Yesterday I couldn't get it to work at all, even after successive restarts. The problem started after a thorough virus scan, and I vaguely (and possibly incorrectly) recall this problem occuring after a previous virus scan. Or maybe GoBack kiboshed it while doing a heavy write after the scan (although that fails to explain why the problem persisted). In any case, time heals all wounds, and possibly some Windows Woes. I've saved your post - I suspect this will happen again.
