Hi quaytec; Did you replace your memory? Did you scan with the programs maynard suggested?
-
Hi aidacuk; Please wait for our techs to get back to you on this but in the mean time I can tell you that I don't think this looks good. The BIOS has nothing to do with your hard drive. With Compaq tapping the F10 key or pressing it at exactly the right time should get you into the BIOS. Try it repeatedly and carefully to ensure you can't get in. This might be just that you are not doing it quite right. It can be tricky. This sounds like the issue but if you really can't get into the BIOS then your chip is most likely bad and that's bad news. Again, try to get into the BIOS and wait for the techs to reply.

Help in connecting laptop to phone for wifi
RandyL replied to KingNeil's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I would phone them too if I were you. Since you are paying your ISP it's in their best interest to help you get connected or you surely wouldn't keep sending them money. They know that. Keep in mind though that connecting a mobile phone to your ISP may not be the same thing as connecting your computer through a mobile phone modem. Those types of connections vary for different reasons. My brother did this once and only certain phones and ISP's were compatable in his area. -
Help in connecting laptop to phone for wifi
RandyL replied to KingNeil's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi King; You may have to contact LG to see for sure if your particular mobile phone can supply an internet connection for your computer in your region. It may be that you don't have the proper software to connect which LG may be able to supply. You have Vista right? It's also possible that your ISP might not support a mobile connection via your computer through a mobile phone connection. If I were you I would contact LG support and whatever ISP you have to see if everything is compatable first. -
In addition to my last post I have two more questions. What was the name of the trojan Antivir found? Can you just not save downloaded files if they are not zip? I'm asking because I want to know if you can download, run and install the eset files as they don't need to be saved but can be run from the download itself. Note the ActiveX component. If you can do that as well as download SAS and Malwarebytes and the updates on another computer then burn to disk you should be able to install all three programs. For that matter can you Run the SAS and Malwarebytes downloads instead of saving?

Hi Goku; Can you download SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes from another computer? If so burn it to disk along with the updates for them. Then install on your computer and run the scans. SAS updates. Malwarebytes updates.

Hi Goku; If you store them in the Pictures folder Photo Gallery might return them if you search from there. That's what I've heard but have not tested it. I use my own directories and folders.

Which Programming Languages are YOU interested in?
RandyL replied to petef's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thanks to one of the original members here (James you know who you are) I got started on HTML. I can write Pure HTML quite well now that will validate until the new standards come out. But my designs are horrible. -
Well said pete. Microsoft frustrates us all once again. One thing though. The reality is Microsoft is out of touch and will likely remain so. But it never hurts to dream.

Hi mav and welcome. We really need more information in order to help you. Please tell us as much as you can on this issue. The more detailed the better.

Correction. Vista search finally completed after 3 hours. I would still have to search for the other pic file types though. I think I'll depend on orginization instead of search like I always have.
-
It appears Vista search is still searching but I think not. It tends to do that on big searches sometimes. And to think I was only searching for .jpeg. lol Granted Vista and I have a huge amount but it does say something to me about non-indexed file searching. Not exactly an improvement based on my usage since early last year. Welcome to Vista. I think you might be right Ron. We'll need even more third party tools since for every one thing Vista added it seems two things were taken away.
-
Hi Deborah and welcome; Is this the Firefox add-on you refer too? WOT 20080519
-
No I don't think so unless you put all the pics in My Pictures then use Photo Gallery. By the way look at the time on your first post. Now look at the time on this one. I'm still running the search on non-indexed locations.
-
I'm definetly not a fan of Vista search either seth. Since I read your first post search is still running after entering .jpg. Like you I have indexing turned off so this may take quite a bit more time yet.

Good luck Jim. I hope you're trouble free from here on. If not just come on back.

Windows XP wont Shut Down
RandyL replied to mr_banana_pants's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello; Please follow the malware guide seth provided as uipopuphidden is sometimes a trojan infection. uipopuphidden and shutdown problems is often associated with PCguard security from Virgin Media. Notably the RadialPoint software. If that is the case try uninstalling it then try a reboot. If the computer shuts down properly try re-installing PCguard and see if that fixes it. Like I said before though. Run the scans seth provided first. -
Intel 3945ABG turns off following hibernation
RandyL replied to KingNeil's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I sincerly hope you resolved your issue King. We appreciate the feedback and that you took the time to give us a picture too. So do you you think this is a specific power management issue related to Dell computers as Goku was thinking? Or do you think it's that the Wireless Adapter should always be set to Maximum Performance. The picture you linked to suggests it's related to Dell's settings. -
I don't know if this will address your issue for sure but if you have XP Home you may need to Take Ownership of Files and Folders.

Intel 3945ABG turns off following hibernation
RandyL replied to KingNeil's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi King; There seems to be a misconception here. You said in your first post that you are using the driver version 11.5.0.32 The link Goku provided is the correct one for the DELL driver. Version 11.1.1.3 Keep in mind that Dell tends to use propriatary hardware and software so you may indeed have the wrong version for Dell. Try the driver that Goku suggested in his link as it may be the correct one since you do have a Dell computer. As far as this being a power saving problem I can find no setting on my Vista desktop that can explain why this is happening only on battery power. I have checked the Advanced settings. Since you stated that the connection does resume from a battery powered hibernation and cuts out after five minutes or so this leads me to believe it is something else. Possibilites are numerous as we don't have all the facts about your computer or installed software. 1. Have you tried a different battery? 2. Is your Vista updated? 3. If so when? 4. Are you positive this does not happen when you are plugged in? 5. Have you checked the advanced options in the Vista power options? 6. Is your laptop under warranty? 7. Do you have a current antivirus program? 8. Do you have any software that is dubious? A lot more information would be helpful. Such as. Please let us know King. Thanks. -
Where do you come up with this stuff DSTM? Really good.

Another AOL connection problem...
RandyL replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Jonny: There are a few basic things you need to understand unfortunately. First of all Spybot Search and Destroy uninstalls clean. Once uninstalled in spite of what you think it can not be the source of your problem. You could reinstall it and choose your options differently but I'm sure it will make no difference. You have a connection problem with AOL and neither AOL or a computer shop can straighten it out. It is of no surprise that a shop cannot figure out AOL issues as they are unique. The endless possibilities of AOL issues go way beyond anything anyone can help you with. I could write a book on it. The bottom line is it's most likely related to the AOL software. If AOL can't get you connected then that says something about their software in my opinion. Your best bet is to use a different ISP. If that doesn't work then you likely have an infection so bad that a reinstall may be your only option. It's also possible that AOL has changed your settings to the point that the only way to get rid of it is to reinstall Windows. Nobody can help you with AOL except AOL. If they failed then uninstall AOL if you can. If you can't then reinstall Windows to get rid of every trace of it. Once Windows is reinstalled use a different ISP since AOL could not help you. Make sure you are protected and update Windows. After you reinstall Windows and use another ISP I'm sure our Techs can help you configure your hardare and software to resolve your issue. -
Happy happy birthday Denil. A happy birthday indeed when your computer is fixed.
