  1. That's true Dave. I'm as mad as a hatter myself. I like to see humor on the site. Not just in the other sections but everywhere. However rudeness and chaos is another matter that this mad hatter can't gather.
  2. Yes indeed Goku. After all this is a computer help forum. We can have a fun side but the focus has to be on helping people with computers. I agree.
  3. fab you still have the original problem in that it doesn't work in IE.
  4. Are you clicking on help from the IE toolbar? Not help from the start button.
  5. Actually the unfortunate part will be when CCM needs help that we could have provided. Now that his request has been honored it will not be undone. We have more important things to do.
  6. Hi fab; I assume you're using Internet Explorer 7. Sometimes Windows Live Mail access can be corrected by deleting your browsing history. Go to Control Panel>Internet Options. Under the General tab in Browsing History click Delete. Then delete Temporary Internet Files and delete Cookies. If that doesn't work we'll try the Restore Advanced settings in IE. Let me know how it goes with the Browsing History first. I'll supply the instructions if need be.
  7. Hi 5milefarms; It would help if you could tell us what you suspect and why? In the mean time a slow running machine is usually caused by malware or a failing hard drive. Your computer could be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup StepsDisable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://kixhelp.com/wr/images-freepchelp/printer-selection.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed)Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. You can also download it from Majorgeeks.com When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://kixhelp.com/wr/images-freepchelp/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://kixhelp.com/wr/images-freepchelp/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Please follow the instructions here How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows Vista
  8. I would wait for advice from the techs zism. You put out the information so let them look it over. I have no idea if PcGuard is the issue and would never recommend running without protection. Like I said though if for some reason you have two AV programs or firewalls running that could be an issue.
  9. Wolfeymole is all over it on so many levels. Check the email you signed up with and check Announcements too. Mike is also working to stop this person. I'll let them fill you in more if you want.
  10. That's good to know GreyCell. That you can pass that information on not that you had to buy a new one. So it seems this could be the problem.
  11. I don't know either zism. I haven't found anything by googling. I was hoping someone would know if there was something that stood out. In the mean time let me summarize some of the steps so far. 1. You ran the malware scans correct? 2. You disabled the requested items under the startup tab in msconfig correct? 3. It runs fine in safemode with networking correct? 4. You did not unzip and check the drive with the utility from Samsung correct? To unzip the utility right click the folder and click Extract All. If the drive passes then it's likely a startup item or malware. A common problem with startup items is multiple antivirus programs or firewalls. Are you using PCGuard and Authentium at the same time. Are you using the PCGuard firewall and the Windows firewall at the same time? PCGuard from Virgin Media has been known to cause issues. Have you tried uninstalling it? Before you ran the malware scans did you disable Tea Timer in SpyBot? Uninstall Torrentman.
  12. Yes Dave they will show as optional. It's just that so many people take all the updates. For instance there is a driver update that interferes with DVD playback on mine. Granted it wouldn't be in SP1 but something in it conflicts.
  13. Three choices here Osprey. Get a different one that is compatable with Windows and the updates. Uninstall SP1. Disable Windows Automatic Updates so that you can choose the updates you want and de-select non-Windows software updates. Of course un-doing the specific updates may be problematic in some cases but in your case you might just be able to uninstall all software and drivers for belkin and start over.
  14. A hard drive is a hard drive. A retail version of Windows is inclusive. Boot from the retail Vista CD to do a clean install and the HP add-ons will be gone. Update everything. Keep in mind you might need to search for proper drivers since you will be using a non-HP reinstall. Also keep in mind that Recovery options are different in Vista Home Premium and Ultimate so choose wisely between the two.

  16. Hi mivers; You can get a Parallel Printer Adapter Cable for your printer.
  17. You might want to check out Crucial to look for the right RAM.
  18. Sounds like you need to go into Control Panel and change your Power Options dorsil.
  19. There are a lot of 8000 series so click on yours and choose your OS then scroll down to the CD order section. Ron is right that there is a small fee. As near as I can tell there is no option to restore from a partition on this series but the order process is simple and the disks arrive fast as long as they are not sold out. They are limited as to how many they can make so once gone they are gone. Like Ron says though a malware cleanup might cure your problems.
  20. Page Valet and Site Valet W3C Markup Validation and W3C CSS Validation WDG HTML Validator and WDG CSSCheck See if any of those help. Best wishes.
  21. Right click the saved files. Choose Send To. Click Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  22. Glad your making progress. If you need more help let us know. There are sites with tools to check cross browsing validation if you would like them. It's not easy though unless you know how to write the code. In the mean time we depend on the members to help us with feedback and to help us answer posts. So check back with the forum when you can. Maybe next time you can help a member with a problem. That's what it's all about. People helping people. Once again thanks.
  23. She lives close to me. I'll pay her a visit and we can talk about YOU.
  24. Thankyou Bob for taking the time to let us know what worked. This information will help everyone. AdvancedSetup is away temporarily but I'm sure he will appreciate you letting him know. I'm sure the members and the team will benifit too. We depend on the members to help us with feedback and to help us answer posts. So check back with the forum when you can. Maybe next time you can help a member with a problem. That's what it's all about. People helping people. Once again thanks.
  25. Hi sean; I think what you mean to say is you are attempting to do a system recovery not a system restore. Either way let's back up a bit and consider what's going on with your system. Can you boot into Windows? Why do you think you have a virus? What exact series of 8000 do you have? The only series I can find that says 8000 exactly is the HP Pavilion zd8000 CTO Notebook PC. This one has a recovery cd that does not match what you said you are attempting to install from which is a application & driver recovery dvd. Perhaps you are attempting to boot from the wrong disk. Just a guess. If this is a driver cd then it can only be run after Windows is installed. Either way you need to enable your HDD in the BIOS in order to do anything. Let us know please.
