You might also want to delete all your cookies and temp files too at the same time. Keep in mind though that Daylo may be right in that your firewall may be blocking access to the mail server.

Please be patient strikes. We're all in different time zones so someone will reply in time.

I agree with you maz. Files that need to be in the realpayer format makes me cut and run too. I'll never install that again. Good point. WMP is just fine for me too.

Thank you maz. I'll stand down now. I have no reason to suspect foul play. Hopefully someone will be able to help you. Good luck.

What is limelinx? Is this limewire for linux? Are you using other P2P file sharing programs besides these two? ZShared and Limelinx so far. Any others? Never mind. Upon furthur consideration I think you are breaching our rules (note rule 4) on offering support on file sharing as you now state that you are trying other programs besides the one you listed originally. Should you need any help removing these programs or removing the bundled programs and follow up malware removal let us know. We can help you with that. Let us know please lest your system be corrupted forever.

Web page too big for the monitor
RandyL replied to TicTok's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Give me a few web addresses TicTok and I'll check it out. Keep in mind the pages may be coded badly in which case it's the fault of the web master and there is nothing you can do. -
Wandy suggests that this issue has been resolved. :p

That was the point Daylo. It can't be done. Microsoft would be mortified if it were that simple these days anyway. The other points made is if it would even be wise to try to install XP on a new computer if the computer only had Vista drivers available.
-
Slow down Dave. REFORMATTED and load Windows. No problem. The poster wanted to know if the old drive could just be switched out and put on the new computer and expect Windows to load. The answer is NO. It has to be installed.
-
The bottom line is: You can't just switch hard drives and expect it to work just because the old hard drive had an operating system on it. The operating system would still need to be installed on the new computer. It doesn't matter if the hard drive had one on it. It needs to be Installed as it was never installed in the first place. The parameters have changed.

1. i,m ready to do that 1. Has not scanned for hardware changes. 2. nothing in at the moment, don,t know what psu is, sorry 2. Does not have any other USB devices plugged in. Does not know what a PSU is. 3. don,t know how to get into bios 3. Has not checked the BIOS to see if USB Keyboard or Legacy USB Support is Enabled. How to Enter the BIOS (F1, F2, Del) 4. yes, they work with anything else 4. Epson says it might be a bad USB port. Other USB devices work. 5. don,t know which ones to delete 5. Has not removed the Universial Serial Bus "HOST" Controllers and rebooted. 6. 2 at the back 2 at the front 6. Has two sets of two USB ports. Has still not made it clear if he has tried all four ports. Also see 5, 4 and 2. 7. yes 7. Understands what a virtual port is. 8. i think i have 8. Does not know if he removed all the software and drivers to remove any instance of failed previous installations. Also supplied an incomplete answer here as to whether his attempt to do so was done by following the links I provided here. Also does not say by what method he uninstalled. 9. there,s 1 yellow Q mark 9. Has one yellow question mark in Device Manager but the answer is once again incomplete as he does not say what device has the question mark. 10. yes i did, will do it again 10. Did what? Did you use add/remove programs to remove the software? Did you search for files and folders for leftovers? Did you unhide hidden files and folders first? Or did you just reinstall again? 11. p/bell ixtreme 6052 11. Packard Bell IXTREME 6052 support page. In the download section under chipset there is a USB Patch. Have you tried that? 12.tryed the install cd first, both os are on the cd, it does ask which one to run. 12. Tried to install from the CD first. I assume you also tried to install the downloaded drivers? If so is this the one you downloaded? Epson Stylus DX4400 : Drivers & Software Can you give us any more details on what Epson or Packard Bell suggested? Did they have you try anything at all? Please pay particular attention to the USB Patch I mentioned in 11. As you can see lacky you have not tried all the suggestions made. In addition your answers have been unclear and incomplete. Even when I spelled it out what we needed to know we are only a little better off. Please be specific with your answers. Note that I tried to clear up your answers for you in a format that can be readily used. Good luck.

What computer did you buy. If we knew the specs maybe we could help you with it. More memory etc. to get it running better.
-
Sorry ylind but that won't work. The XP installation on the other drive would not match the other components. Even if you install XP on the new computer there might not be XP drivers for it.
-
It sure is great to see you back danzil. As before we really appreciate you being here. Look around and catch up.

In post number 60 I have asked about 12 posts and points. Can you please reply in detail to each and everyone of them? This information is vital to resolving your issue.

Let's work backwards for a moment. 1. In post 58 do as Dalo says. You said the printer installed on your mates PC so it could be a fault with your OS as he says. 2. Post 55 Daylo may have a point. Unplug ALL other USB devices first. 3. Post 54 Definitly do as Wolfeymole suggested first before you do anything else. 4. Post 53 Maybe Packard Bell is right. You have a bad USB hardware port. If you only have one set that could be a problem. Might need to replace it but you did say you had other devices that worked on it right? 5. Post 47 You never did reply as to whether you tried that. We need full and complete answers please. 6. Post 46 You seem to imply that you only have 2 USB ports. Is that correct? See number 5, 4, and 2 in this thread. 7. Post 45 Do you understand this part? 8. Post 39 Have you removed all instances of the failed software and drivers installation before you tried to reinstall? I provided the links for your printer but you never replied. 9. Post 38 You didn't reply to Wolfeymole on Device Manager. We really do need COMPLETE answers To EVERY question please. 10. Post 37 Your reply was once again incomplete. Did you go into Add/Remove and remove the software and programs? Did you search for the files in the prescribed manner? Did you reboot next? Or did you just try to reinstall again? 11. Post 33 What is the exact model and number? 12. Post 3 seems to imply that you ran the downloaded drivers first then tried the CD. In post 17 Wolfey asked which one you downloaded. Again your response was generic and unclear. EXACTLY what did Epson and Packard Bell say? The details will help. It seems to me you may have made a mess of this from the start and not followed ALL of the instructions completely on removing previous installations. It really is hard to tell though since your answers are incomplete. This also means answers to possible other issues. You may want to consider doing a System Restore to before you made your FIRST attempt at installing this printer. Then CAREFULLY follow the instructions you have recieved from everyone everywhere.

Laptop can't find internet on working network?
RandyL replied to Paper Moon's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi; Just a thought here everyone. In post 10 you said you had Norton on this computer. Is it possible that a Norton firewall might be an issue? I might also add that when I had a free trial version of Norton it blocked me twice from getting on the net. Once I had to restore to before an update and the other time I had to uninstall Norton. -
Look to see if they are set to open minimized from the shortcut. I doubt this is the issue but it's worth a look. Right click the IE shortcut and click properties. The properties should open with the shortcut tab selected. In the Run: box make sure Minimized is not selected. If it is use the dropdown arrow to select Normal. Click Apply. Click OK.

XP - lost pw & need full reinstall
RandyL replied to joycefitz's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I'm sorry joyce but we can't offer advice on getting around the password or help with "downloading" XP. I looked up your model and it seems it shipped with the recovery disk. It looks like the recovery media is no longer available for purchase from HP. It also seems there is no option to reinstall from a seperate partition on your hard drive. Your best bet is to purchase XP. A 5 year old laptop is extremely unlikely to meet system specs for Vista and HP support agrees. -
Rescueing photos burned as DVD
RandyL replied to shrimply's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It depends shrimply but it seems to me if you have the slide show on dvd the photos should be on it too. Go to My Computer and Explore the dvd drive to see if they are on there. If not on the slide show dvd then the dvd is likely pointing to the files on your hard drive. The pic files may be in a format related to the program you used. What program did you use to create the slide show? -
Also uninstall MyWebSearch if it got installed along with it. Although it's almost impossible to get any real information on the web about AOL and their software, that includes AOL support itself, it seems it might have the emoticon option in the mail. I have no intention of ever installing AOL or using any of their products like email so I can't personally check this out. I also have not been able to find anything on it using AOL support. That's not surprising. Try the mail settings or preferences. Where in there it might be I have no idea. You could try and see if the Rich Text Format option might help. Also if you are paying AOL to use their proprietary software contact them directly for help. It's hard to troubleshoot AOL problems as they live in a world all their own outside main computing. Sorry I don't have more I can offer at this time.
-
I was only asking if you used a program like that. I was not suggesting to use it. On the contrary I suggest you uninstall it.

maynard may wish to alleviate some of his computer frustrations by Bashing The Computer. My grandson really likes this one.

I wasn't aware AOL mail has a smiley function. Are you using a third party program like Smiley Central?
