1. I do indeed know about VIDEO.TS files and the other ones too. I also know how to convert. However it is our policy not to assist with torrents in any form as we have no way of knowing if the are legal. Besides P2P programs and downloaded files are not safe. Sorry but it is against our policy to offer support on this matter.
2. Hi GRANDAD. This probably won't work but try right clicking it and select "run as administrator". The only other thing I can think of is to turn it off then back on. Go to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Next click on Turn Windows features on or off. Expand Media features and uncheck Windows Media Center. Click OK etc. and reboot the system. Do the same thing to turn it back on. I'm not sure but you may need to reboot again after turning it back on.
3. Hi and welcome
4. Sorry but I don't know how to write software or develope an OS. Why is there a link in your post?
5. You're welcome. Quite annoying when that happens.
6. What about your OE problem? This is unrelated so it belongs in a new thread. However just go to Internet Properties and change your Browsing settings to match this.
7. Check SuperAntispyware>Preferences>Hi-Jack Protection>Home Page Protection. Check or uncheck the second option. Another thing you can try when in Internet options is to click Default before Apply>OK.
8. I completely understand. I'm the same way. Imagine how I felt going from Windows ME straight to Vista. I don't have Vista or ME anymore just XP and Windows 7.
9. If you purchase two XP disks you can. But you might not have the needed drivers. Seriously Vista is better then XP and Windows 7 is better then both. XP has passed the fully supported life cycle and will soon be phased out completely. Not the way to go.
10. One other thing to consider is your PSU. I think yours is only 300w. At the bare minimum you would need 400w to 550w respectively.
11. Just a quick concern here. Laptops should always be on a flat hard surface. Placing one on a bed can cause serious over heating.
12. If it is not one of the compatable ones I don't see any hope. Not all hardware is going to work on all versions of Windows and not all are going to work on 64 bit. I would go for one of the compatable ones on the list.
13. I have no personal experience but I can give you a couple links to check. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Set-up-a-Bluetooth-enabled-device http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Connect-to-Bluetooth-and-other-wireless-or-network-devices http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Browse.aspx?type=Hardware&category=Networking&subcategory=Bluetooth%20Adapters http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Adding-Bluetooth-Devices-Windows-7.html
14. According to the manual for your computer there is no option for reinstalling without the disks. You need the disks. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/reinstal/reinstal.htm If you are in the USA you can order them from Dell for a nominal fee. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1
15. Inside of the C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail directory is the names of the email accounts. They might not be exactly the same names but they are there. Once you locate that folder you will see the different WLM folders inside such as inbox, sent items etc. Inside of those folders are the email messages. They will have strange names such as 1CD0366B-00000075. Just out of curiosity see what happens if you open one. Maybe the message will open if WLM client does not. Copy and save them. Also in the C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail directory is the Storage Folders in case you moved any messages there. Once you reinstall WLM go back to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and copy them back to the appropriate folder. I have moved messages in this way and it works. However I didn't reinstall WLM first but I see no reason why it should not. I just can't gaurantee it personally. WARNING: Do not delete messages manually from this folder or you might have trouble deleting them from WLM. As for the Contacts WLM uses the Windows 7 Contacts so you shouldn't have to do anything there but if you want to be safe you can copy that folder to a different location.
16. WLM messages are in C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail Try doing a straight copy/paste Windows 7 contacts are in C:\Users\username
17. Thanks Starbuck. I guess that means it's just Bitdefender doing it for some reason. Starbuck without those logs you had him post we might still be at it. I didn't see any other programs except Bitdefender that might have been causing it not to mention that you eliminated a malware possibility. Thanks for everything. heckler like I said I'm not familiar with Bitdefender and it's settings but you should contact them about this.
18. We all learn together. But don't go away yet. We still would like to know why Bitdefender is doing this. I know Starbuck had you clean some AVG remnants. Maybe he knows something about these log entries because I don't. 19. Great we're onto something at last. I thought something might be running to either stop it from populating or using so many resources that it was slowing it way down. As to why I'm not sure. It could be a setting stopping it or it could be that a setting is using resources such as a scan in progress. I'm not familiar with Bitdefender but you could check the settings and make some changes to try and narrow it down. I wonder if there is any leftover remnants from other AV that is conflicting with Bitdefender. Maybe Starbuck can tell by the logs.
20. Nice job. Had it failed you would have got an error code. Well we can rule that out for hardware. At this point as far as hardware goes it could only be memory. If you had a different stick you could test that theory. I really wish you could have checked this issue immediately after the reinstallation. Reimaging the drive after the reinstallation might have recreated the problem. It could also be the software you reinstalled. It's obviously something. Maybe it's your AV. You could try temporarily disabling it. Do you have all your Windows updates?
21. Sorry heckler. I want the C drive. Most manufacturers have a drive test program that's much better then Windows. As for OTL Starbuck is the one to ask.
22. For purposes of troubleshooting it's best to disconnect as much hardware as possible so yes. If you have a disk in D take it out. The report was showing bad blocks. I don't think it would hurt to run a real hard drive test. Do you know what make you have? Look in Device Manager, probably under disk drives, for information on it.
23. heckler is that drive D the problematic external drive? http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/12305-Western-Digital-external-hard-drive-data-recovery If it is disconnect it.
24. Hi. I'm guessing your desktop had Windows 7 as it is a Windows 7 feature. XP does not have the option for desktop backgrounds. Your profile says you have XP. If you have Windows 7 this link will show you how. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/create-a-desktop-background-slide-show If you have Windows XP you can install the Winter Fun Pack which I believe you can use any folder or pictures to create a desktop background slideshow. Check out these two links. http://www.askvg.com/get-windows-7s-desktop-background-slideshow-feature-in-xp-and-vista-using-microsofts-official-winter-fun-wallpaper-changer-powertoy/ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/winterfun2003.mspx For a screensaver slideshow in XP... http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_set_picture_as_screensaver.mspx?mfr=true For a screensaver slideshow in Vista... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Keep-your-memories-within-view-Personalize-your-computer-with-digital-pictures For a screensaver slideshow in Windows 7... http://www.technixupdate.com/use-several-pictures-slideshow-as-screen-saver-in-windows-7/
25. Yes that would have done it. Sometimes search bots hit the link too. I don't thank them.
