Hi Ray. Try this. Right click the desktop and choose Personalize. On the left select Adust font size (DPI). Pick a larger setting or choose to use a customized setting. Keep in mind there might be times you will need to set it back to default to see some things that are off the screen. For instance some installation wizards may have part of the instructions or selections below the bottom of your screen. If you want the Start menu to display larger right click on the taskbar and select Properties. Select the Start Menu tab and select Customize. Scroll to the bottom and choose Large icons.

Deciphering languages is hard enough if you don't have a base or a key. Look up Rosetta Stone (not the learn language software). Deciphering encrypted code is even harder without a base or key. Look up enigma from world war 2. So if you're looking for something like a universal translator like what you see in Star Trek no such software exists. If you want a translator for known languages I use Google Translate. There is malware that will encrypt all your files that is virtually impossible to circumvent without the "key". And then there are legit encryption software to protect your files which once again is almost impossible to get around. But like I said before if your government is the most powerful in the world and can spend billions to employ thousands of people and has the latest tech then they will be able to crack anything given enough time but it may take years or decades.

You would be surprised what is possible. I'm sure you have heard of the NSA. If you could be more specific we may be able to advise you on basic security measures for your PC. For instance it is easy to remove properties and information from a file on a computer but not so easy for a folder. Keep in mind that that experts like the NSA, FBI, etc. can extract almost everything anytime. Facial recognition software has come a long way but you won't hear much about it except in movies or in intelligence. Actually there are apps being used today that do quite well at it. I read somewher that Facebook was getting good at it but I'm not really sure. If you are looking for information on how to extract hidden information then obviously we can't help as that would be considered spying or spyware apps. We only help with removing spyware in order to protect people from the likes of criminals or other nefarious entities. As always we will never help with anything if what we post could be used for criminal activity. I will say this. Anything recorded or stored electronically can be retrieved. Also anything posted on the internet leaves a record. We are unlikely to get detailed on many matters but feel free to ask.

Before doing anything else let our security team advise you on your malware issues. After you get the all clear we can proceed. Are you aware that your link to Money Plus Sunset Deluxe is for USA users and is not the UK version of Money Plus? I installed Money Plus Sunset Deluxe with no issues. The one I tried before was Money Plus Sunset Home and Business which is also for USA users. You could try that but I'll bet you will get the same error. A lot of people have had trouble with this. In your particular case I only found one solution that may work but it involves changing the registry. I always suggest backing up the registry before making any changes. You can backup the registry manually or by making a System Restore point. Another great option is Erunt. After that I found a great article with pictures on how to do this at Tech Geek and More. http://www.techgeekandmore.com/solution-software-fix-for-microsoft-money-autorun-inf-error-during-install/ I can't vouch for this download but it appears to be legit if you want the 2005 UK version of Money. http://money.mvps.org/downloads/files/2005/Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe As I said before it would probably be best if you get the all clear on your malware issues first. I'll keep watching. EDIT: I see Starbuck has already seen the report. :)

Hi everyone; I really don't intend to intrude on this thread too much but I did Google a bit on the program and the error in hopes I could provide a little help to those who are already helping. jontye can you please tell us exactly what program you are trying to install and provide a link to the download? The program and version number might help. As KenB said there does seem to be some issues but more information might help. As for Microsoft Money Plus it is an obsolete program as far as I can figure. In the USA the last supported version was released in 2010. In the UK the last supported version was released in 2005. Note that Vista was released in 2006 which is after 2005. I checked a couple downloads. The USA version was from Microsoft and was an exe file. The UK version I checked was from a reputable source and was also an exe file. There are many other third party sites that offer a download which I did not check. The USA version installed just fine for me. Some of the issues and solutions I found on other forums may not apply to you or your version. For instance some seem to have downloaded a zip file which once extracted they had to navigate to a particular exe or application file in the extracted folder which worked. In other cases a registry modification was needed. That is not exactly something I would suggest unless absolutely needed. I do know from my test that Microsoft Money immediately downloaded an update for the USA version because I set up a flag. but that was after the install. As for the downloads I checked and they were both exe files not folders. Also I checked the instructions. They said to download and SAVE the exe files and not choose RUN. Once SAVED it said to double click to install. Did you choose RUN or SAVE? This may be a program compatability issue or an improper installation method. 1. Download link please. 2. Method of install-Run or Save. 3. UK or USA version. 4. Exact version. 5. Exe or application file or did you download a folder? I know I asked a lot of questions but I have to in order for your helpers to proceed. There is also the possibilty that you migrated over issues via cloning. For instance if you had ever run a registry or optimizer program then registry items could be changed from the original Windows installation which might cause issues. If that is the case then there is one registry entry I found that might or might not work but the registry is not to be taken lightly. As for in info file error often times it is because it does not match OS parameters. Sometimes when you download and save an installation package an exe or application file points to an info file that tells the exe how and where to install the appe etc. You usually see this when installing from a disk but it can also be when installing from a downloaded folder. Windows sees a downloaded installation folder the same as it sees an installation disk. In the old days of Windows 3.... etc to Windows 98 the info file was needed as part of the installation and was common. I have seen it in much later versions with some software. Heck I even modified a few info files in my day. They can be opened with notepad. And one last thing I should ask? Are you really sure you want or need this program? It is after all obsolete and outdated and unsupported.

Missing data from wordpad docs.
RandyL replied to magic123's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If the data is not corrupted then Microsoft Works Word Processor if you have it and OpenOffice will open Wordpad files. Give those a try. I'n not sure about Word but notepad can't open the files if they were saved in Rich Text Format. -
Missing data from wordpad docs.
RandyL replied to magic123's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi magic. Maybe Wordpad is corrupt. The data may still be there. Try using a different program to open a file. Right click a file and select "Open with" then choose a different word program. Make sure you untic the box to "Always open with" to avoid file association issues. Programs you can try are Microsoft Works Word Processor or Notepad. If you have Microsoft Office you can try Word. If you need a free program try OpenOffice. -
I know you can sort lists alphabtically in Word (Open Office too) by using the Sort Tool. Since I don't use Microsoft Office I'm not sure to sort by paragraph or word. Sort a list alphabetically In Open Office you don't need to use a bulleted or numbered list. You just select Tools>Sort

What happened to quick launch
RandyL replied to jimmyedwards's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
There are two sets of dotted lines when the taskbar is unlocked. They are used to define the size of quick launch and allow you to drag it to the left or right of the taskbar. When the taskbar is locked the lines dissapear. The arrows simply expand the quick launch to show you items inside if the size is too small. To recreate the show desktop shortcut you will need to right click on the desktop and select new>shortcut. In the folder box type one of these; C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C "%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Shows Desktop.lnk" or C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C "C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Shows Desktop.lnk" Then give it a name, select an icon and drag it into quick launch. I found a couple good articles with pictures that might help you. How to add the Quick Launch bar in Windows 8 & Windows 7 OS How to place the “Show Desktop” icon in Windows 8 taskbar -
email issues when working from home
RandyL replied to markg's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Let us know what they say mark. One thing you might want to try is to see if it's a problem on their end by sending mail by web mail instead of through Outlook. Logon here. http://webmail4.names.co.uk/ Also sometimes it is easier to delete an account in Outlook and start over instead of changing settings. And then there is the settings themselves that vary with the provider. Even little things matter like SSL and Authenication. Only they know the correct settings for their client. -

Thanks for the confirmation Ken. :) -
Well at least we have USB devices like the keyboard and mouse working again. That's progress. Follow Ken's advice. I know where he is going with this. If you do get into Windows I would advise backing up and making sure you have a method to reinstall. But first things first. Follow Kens advice.

What happened to quick launch
RandyL replied to jimmyedwards's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi jimmy. I'm on Windows 7 but it should be the same in Windows 8. Right click the taskbar. Select Toolbars>New Toolbar. In the Folder box paste C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch Replace User Name with your user name. Click Select Folder. That should put it back but you will need to unlock the taskbar to move it. Then you can customize it by icon size, text or no text and if need be drag shortcuts into it again. -
Hi again crl. Was DVD Flick part of your original Samsung Windows installation? Can you burn DVD's with the default Windows software? Can you burn CD's with the default Windows software? Can you read DVD's as well as CD's? This may be a faulty optical drive and not a software problem. Read and write are two different components. Try playing both CD's and DVD's. Try writing both CD's and DVD's with DVD Flick. Try writing CD's and DVD's with the inbuilt Windows software.

email issues when working from home
RandyL replied to markg's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
A domain name is not enough. Did you signup for a web host plan or email host plan? The next question would be, Is it POP or IMAP? Check these. http://kbmedia2.names.co.uk/b00/b51a15f382ac914391a58850ab343b00/QuickStartGuide-Namesco-YourEmailAccount.pdf http://www.names.co.uk/support/email/354/ -
I believe we are all thinking along the same lines Ken so don't quit cooking. :)

Can you get into the BIOS? This is usually done by tapping the F2 or DEL key at startup on a Dimension? Resetting to default might work. If not you may have to manually reset. Do you have USB ports in front and back? If so have you tried all of them?
-
I'm confused. Is this a BIOS password or a Windows logon password? If it's a Windows password try what Nev said first. If that doesn't work or if it's a BIOS password then the USB at bootup may be disabled in the BIOS. You said you checked the USB ports. How did you do that? Does your mouse work? I see you also don't have a mouse port so your mouse must be USB too. Is this correct?

[Solved] Having problems burning a dvd
RandyL replied to Mokles's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I have one of those too and love it. :) There are two possibilities for compatability issues using those. 1. The disks need to be finalized or they may not play on other players and computers. 2. The units are usually region specific. This means disks made may not work on players sold in another country. Anyway I'm glad everything is working. -

If you do install imgburn be sure to deselect additional programs that will want to install alongside imgburn. If I remember right there are two different times when you will have to deselect those programs. -
[Solved] Are these two compatible?
RandyL replied to 5teve's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That's probably Windows Updates. It's very important to let those install. -
[Solved] Newbie to Windows 7 with a few questions.
RandyL replied to 5teve's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That would work. Although the router has a hard firewall use the Windows firewall too. If I remember right if the Windows firewall is not turned on MSE will do it or ask to turn it on. It's probably already enabled right now. Avast is good too but I switched. Good luck Steve. -
[Solved] Newbie to Windows 7 with a few questions.
RandyL replied to 5teve's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Steve. You're going to get some different answers because some things are a matter of preference such as a choice of antivirus programs. I would say three things are important. 1. Firewall 2. Antivirus 3. Anti-Spyware 4. Other What I use. 1. I just use the Windows firewall. It is turned on by default unless you have a AV suite installed. 2. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's from Microsoft and is free. 3. Windows 7 has Windows Defender which is turned on by default unless you have a AV suite installed. However if you install MSE it is also an anti-spware program now which also will turn off Defender to avoid conflict. 4. Just for peace of mind I also use Spywareblaster. And of course make sure you get all of the important Windows Updates. By default automatic updates is already enabled. -
Is there an answer to W8 RT printer issues??
RandyL replied to joddle's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Not looking good. The windows Compatibilty Center says the HP Laserjet 13900 is not compatible with Windows 8.1 RT. The same goes for the Lexmark X4650.
