ARGHHH! Fix this and I buy you a pint XD
RandyL replied to smirnoff's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
smirnoff install the drivers by running the exe file before you put the new card in. Windows is probably installing a set of preloaded drivers at startup that it thinks are best suited for your card at startup because the card is physically plugged into your computer. If your computer has onboard graphics which is a chip on your motherboard and not an actuall card you should remove the cards and then remove the device from Device Manager as well as any software from Programs and Features in Control Panel that came with the new card. Install the new cards drivers. Turn off the computer off. Put in the new card. If your computer does not have onboard graphics leave the old card in and uninstall the new card drivers and software. Install the new cards drivers. Turn off the computer off. Put in the new card. If you can't run the exe before rebooting let it load what drivers it finds. Install the new cards drivers. Turn off the computer off. Put in the new card -
If you're not getting any sound at all then look in Device Manager to see if there are any problems with your sound device. If it's sound on just things like youtube then it's a different issue so try a sound file on your computer. What's the model number of your Pavillion?

Graphics cards installations can be tricky. If it's not too late do a system restore to before you installed the new card. Mind you this is not my field but I'll try to offer some basic advice. Get all the Vista updates first. Get the latest drivers from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers Remove the card itself. Uninstall any of the cards software from programs and features in control panel. Remove the nvidia graphics card from device manager. Do not reboot unless prompted to do so. If you reboot after removing from device manager Windows might attempt to load the old drivers from the old or new card. Once the old card, new card, software and drivers are removed try loading the new drivers and/or software before putting in the new card. The point is that old drivers and software should be removed first if I'm not mistaken. After that before rebooting install the new drivers. Then install the new card. Even more important is for you to wait for those who know more to post on this. -
How to use Bitzipper to play zipped file game!?
RandyL replied to bubblesupper's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
bitzipper simply extracts the zip files into a normal folder in unzipped form. Beyond that there is not much we can tell you unless we know what game and where you got it so we can look into it. -
Hi alfa. If you have burned the file as an ISO or image file and it does not boot from it go into the BIOS and set your CD drive to first boot in the boot order. Save the changes and exit. To enter the BIOS on a HP computer continually tap either the F1 or F2 key at startup. Once that is done restart your computer with the disk in the drive.

Alice Cooper  I didn't know anyone remembered what I listened to when I was 18. Alice Cooper - Eighteen -
I wish I knew more on this but perhaps someone else does. In the mean time anything you can add or more detail would be benificial.

If they are putting in a new drive then yes backup Outlook messages and address back. Unfortunately I haven't had Outlook for many years so I can't advise you on how to do that. You can also backup favorites or bookmarks too. And of course all your data. Once you reinstall Windows get all the Windows updates and install an antivirus immediately. I suggest you look at our sticky in the malware section as to what we advise to use. Personally I'm not a fan of AVG. The error code does appear to be hardware related but as so many error codes go the exact cause or solution can be hard to figure out. But if they think it's the drive who am I to argue. Besides it might very well be that files on the drive are corrupted because of a drive fault. Anyone have any advice on backing up Outlook?

Hi longdoggg. Just to confirm a few things and provide links for you and others who might be able to assist you I'll post on this. Edimax EW-7128g main page does say it will work on Win2000. If you scroll to the bottom you will see in the Download Area links that are zip files. Once unzipped or extracted you can open in pdf format the Quick Install Guide or the Manual which also contains the installation instructions. At a quick glance I noticed that when you first install it Windows will bring up the Windows New Hardware Found Wizard. When you see that you are directed to click Cancel. It's after that you should follow the instructions for installing the software from the CDROM. But you might want to print out the guide first. My point is that if it wasn't installed exactly as per the instructions then you may have to uninstall it and start over. If for some reason you don't have the install CD you can get the drivers from the download area too. Make sure you get the right ones if you go that route.

Every key pressed opens a folder/app/desktop ect
RandyL replied to Cecikins's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi danzil. I'll wait to see if this is a key pad problem first. If it's not then I agree that malware is the most likely problem. -
You're welcome dave. Thanks for letting us know. You did what I was hoping you could do if you got into safemode. You're probably right about the printer. I've seen that happen before when printers were installed and the OS didn't support it.

At startup before the splash screen start tapping the F8 key. It may take several trys to get the timing just right.

It sounds like you might have a keypad problem. Can you try an external keyboard to help determine this? Tracking cookies are harmless and are a normal part of surfing the web. Your welcome. And thankyou too KenB and danzil.

Hi dave. By any chance will it boot in safemode?
-
That's because you need a new battery. Replace the battery and you won't have that problem anymore.

Here you go guys. Windows XP Recovery Console

I agree with tootech and danzil although they both know more then I ever will. You have an IDE. It does not show in the BIOS. Unknown SATA probably means that the BIOS supports it but you don't have one. If it can't find the primary IDE it's probably going to the next supported drive in the boot sequence is my guess which of course is a SATA drive which you don't have. Unknown device usually denotes that fact. Although it should not make a difference but it might go back into the BIOS and make sure of the boot sequence. That is make sure if you have both SATA and IDE listed that your IDE is set to boot before the unknown SATA. Or if possible remove the SATA from the boot sequence alltogether. I too fear the drive has failed. A new IDE drive and reinstalling is probably the only option at this point. Well at least the most likely option. Not sure if your recovery disks will work on a SATA as yours shipped with an IDE. Or if you even have SATA connectors. DATA RECOVERY Often times possible by connecting via a caddy on a failed computer such as with a MOBO fault or sometimes with a FAILING hard drive. The problem is that if a drive is too far gone or depending on what caused the drive failure it won't help. If it is a drive problem due to the drive itself it might take a specialist and be extremely expensive as Tootech said unless the fault is repairable but even then if it is it would not be cheap. As danzil said a caddy might be an option if the drive has not totally failed or if it is related to other computer faults. But even then if it is not you are out of the money on that. Since it is an IDE another option to try is to slave the original desktop drive to another desktop computer and copy the data over but you will need to connect the ribbon cable properly and set the jumper pins to slave on the secondary drive. This would preclude the minimal cost of a caddy but in your particular case I doubt it would help as I suspect your drive is too far gone. But as you said the good news is that you already have most of what is important to you backed up on external media. Always a good idea. In my opinion a new hard drive and a reinstall might well fix your problem although there are no absolute garauntees just probabilities.

Epson printer & compatible ink cartridges
RandyL replied to glenndo's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It might be possible to disable the Epson Status Monitor from printer settings. An example of this is Disable the Epson Status Monitor. Yours might be similar.
