  1. Hi cpw. You cannot install software update 898461 in Windows XP from Microsoft suggests renaming the Spupdsvc.exe file.
  2. Hi mtav. I can't help you with your yahoo mail but the Save a copy of the sent messages in the 'Sent Items' folder in Windows Mail can be found in Tools>Options>Send.
  3. Do you have an updated antivirus program?
  4. I agree Tootech. Malware is suspect. But I always do agree with you. chief you may want to post in the security section as I think you have a very real chance of being infected. Do what Tootech says. If that is not enough post in the security section. Just my minor thoughts on this.
  5. Good one maynard. That was also suggested on the other forum that prettylol posted on. However I fear the reason is that the data was written over and is lost for good. Good luck though prettylol.
  6. Am I correct in that you have: Checked your firewall settings. Uninstalled ESET. Turned off the Windows firewall. Lowered your IE settings. Run the WinsockFix. Please be specific. Did you manage to do those things? Because when you say you TRIED I'm not actually sure that you DID. Better late then never but this could be important. The more details you provide the more ideas people might have. Short one sentence replies for instance don't tell us much especially when you are not specific. Where and how did you try to download Flash? Was it a Flash update? What version did you have? What version were you downloading? Did it install? Did you check to see if you have the latest version? Did you check what version you had before? Was your ESET antivirus up to date? Is it enabled or did you uninstall that too? Have you tried hardwire connecting instead of using wireless? Have you tried connecting through your modem without a router? Have you tried resetting your modem? Have you checked with your ISP? Have you tried a different browser such as Firefox? Were there any marks in device manager that indicated a problem with the devices? Try opening a command prompt and type in "ping www.yahoo.com" without the quotes. Notice the space after ping. Press the Enter key. What does it say? I have deleted your last post for obvious reasons.
  7. It could be malware. It could be a firewall. It could be browser settings. If you are using IE try Firefox to see if it's an IE issue or not.
  8. Depending on your make, model and number you might be able to create them. Otherwise you can contact Toshiba. The Toshiba Global Support Centre in the United States is (800) 457-7777 Outside the United States it is (949) 859-4273
  9. Hi Barmoor. Do you have the Prerequisites to install this security update? Have you tried the stand alone installer for Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB973704)
  10. Hi nathan. A few causes of slow running computers and slow startups. 1. Malware 2. A failing hard drive 3. Way too many startup items 4. Not enough or failing RAM 5. A failing hardware device such as a CD drive could slow startup but not slow it after startup The first thing I would try is booting into safemode to see if it boots faster.
  11. Hi mtav. Try these things. Download and install the latest Windows Installer. Afterwards reboot. Types services.msc in the run box then disable the Automatic Update service to stop it from running. Go to Folder Options and enable Show hidden files and folders. Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\EventCache and delete all the files in both of those. Go back to services.msc and start the Automatic update service and set the Automatic update service to automatic.
  12. It's that time of year again to remember all those who have given so much to defend liberty and freedom. In many countries this is the day to do it. Mine included. So here is a song of tribute for you. Terry Kelly - A Pittance of Time (Remembrance Day) Please feel free to add to this thread anything or song or pictures you want.
  13. Hi electro. A very nice introduction you made. Thanks and welcome to the forum.
  14. I find 7 to be just a dumbed down version of Vista with less options but more cool features. So if you've used Vista you should find 7 to be easy.
  15. The only part of your thread I can comment on is that ATI does not officially support this card for Windows 7 although you can download legacy drivers for Vista from them that may or may not work on Windows 7. What are all of the system specs on all of the computers you tried it on? Nice quote by Jefferson by the way.
  16. This is the link to the thread that DAIPWYSO refers to. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/windows-vista/8483-changing-vista.html Good job DAIPWYSO, Snow and Jelly Bean.
  17. That's great. Jelly Bean will be pleased too. Just to add a bit of information so you know. By default Vista is set to use 25% of the FREE hard drive space for System Restore. So if you have 100GB space left Vista would use 25GB of it for System Restore. I've noticed that Vista Restore points use a lot of space for each one. So at 4GB you will have fewer restore points before the older ones get deleted. Vista also makes a fresh restore point every 24 hours even if a system change has not occurred unless a restore point was made because of a change. So the point is at 4GB you likely won't be able to restore to an early point in time. Even with it set larger early points would be less due to the hog of space it needs compared to earlier versions of Windows. If that is an issue there are ways to change the scheduling of restore points. If not you can leave it as is. Good job everyone.
  18. I see some tutorials on MS Project by running a google search. TechTrax has some archived tutorials too. A couple good forums with a Project section can be found here and here.
  19. I'm not a Linux user so I can't help you. I'm sure someone else will though. It's highly likely that Tootech or one of the others will reply when they have a chance to read.
  20. Messenger should be listed in Programs and Features. Select to uninstall Windows Live Essentials. Then select uninstall and you will be presented with a list of Essentials to uninstall. Select Messenger and uninstall. Make sure Messenger is not running when you uninstall it. Reboot and try installing Windows Live Messenger again. If that doesn't work uninstall it again. After the uninstall you may have to manually delete any left over Messenger folder and files. I believe they are located here, Windows 7------C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live Windows Vista-C:\Program Files\Windows Live Only delete the Messenger folder not any others.
  21. After running System Restore you will likely have the Google Toolbar again but no error message. If you still have the error but no toolbar reinstall the latest version. Although an uninstall should be straight forward it seems yours was not. To try to avoid it happening again there are two things you can do. 1. Go to Tools on the Windows toolbar and select manage add-ons or go to Internet Options then Programs and select manage add-ons. Disable the toolbar. 2. Next close ALL instances of Internet Explorer. After that uninstall the toolbar by using add/remove programs in the control panel.
  22. Can you boot into safemode?
  23. Hi Robert. As noted in the link Tootech provided Step 1 is to remove via the control panel. Step 2 is to run the cleanup tool. Read item 6 in step 2 also please. Reboot afterward and save the log if it doesn't work. So yes you are correct. Hope that helps.
  24. Hi Friday. See if this link can help you troubleshoot any xbox connection issue. Having Trouble Connecting?
  25. Hi Hship; Is this XP disk the same one that came with your computer when you bought your computer? If not where did you buy it and was it sealed? Has it ever been used to install XP on a different computer? What is the make, model and number of your computer? Was your computer built and purchased from someone? If so where from?
