My Vista shipped with IE7 installed. If you uninstall IE8 it should revert to IE7 and all the bookmarks would be intact. If you want to be sure and it's a good idea to do it anyway periodically backup IE bookmarks to a file. I do this occasionally and then burn my backups to a disk just in case as I don't want to lose any backups including bookmarks in case my computer or drive fails. 1. Open IE. 2. Click File. 3. Press the Alt key if you do not see File. 4. Click Import and Export. 5. Tic Export to File. 6. Follow the wizard and you can export bookmarks as a file. Use the same method to IMPORT the backed up IE bookmarks file. It's also a good way to put your old bookmarks on a new computer. Make sure you do this for all user accounts.

Hi andy. No need to be sorry. It happens all the time. We can always move your thread to the right section. I tend to agree with maynardvdm. It does sound faulty. Even relatively new ones can fail. You could try it in a a different machine but from what you describe it's probably a waste of time. Device manager in my opinion rarely sees a problem with a failed or failing drive. Your drivers are probably fine and that's why it says it's working properly.

I think it would be a good idea to persue the course you are already engaged in at the other forum since they are attempting to help currently. If everything works ok on Firefox then the issue might be with IE8. Have you tried uninstalling IE8 which would revert you to IE7?

Hi dave; If two different USB printers doesn't work on your computer try a different USB port or delete the USB controllers from device manager and reboot. Also when reinstalling printers it is best to delete the printer from control panel then uninstall any printer software before reinstalling the printer. Then when you reinstall don't plug in the printer until the software tells you too.

Hi John. The point is that it could be any fan. Even the PCU or Power supply fan. Like I said the fault may not be evident at this time but is likely to become more so in due time. Keep an eye on it as some time in the future it might get worse. You'll know it when happens and can replace it then.

I agree with snow. Look at your fans at startup. I had that error too for a while but it went away before it came back. I couldn't see any fans not working until the problem came back and more often too. In my situation it turned out to be the case fan. It would start just fine and then shut off for one second before it started running again. So look closely.

Hi Mokles; Try turning off AutoComplete in Internet Explorer. Go to Internet Options in Control Panel. Click the Content tab. Click the Settings button. Untic all the boxes. Click Delete AutoComplete history... Click OK. Click OK.

Hi Kamal; Since pinging works you are connected to the internet. What browser and version are you using? If it's Internet Explorer have you tried running it without add-ons? Have you tried a different browser such as Firefox to determine if this is a browser issue? If you've used a registry cleaner then it could be just about anything.

Thanks for letting us know butler. If I read this thread correctly that might explain it. If the BIOS was set to to read HD>Floppy>CD in that order then if it couldn't read the hard drive, which would explain the no safe mode option, then it would move on to the next drive. Since there was no floppy drive on the computer it would cause an error. Had that been disabled in the BIOS or if there was a bootable CD in the CD drive it might have moved on to the CD drive. Please let us know how it goes once you get a new sata drive and reinstall Windows to it.

To be honest I'm confused too shrimply. If I click on the FAQ's link on this page they seem to be talking about an upgrade as has been noted. But in the FAQ's it says if you have Vista you can just upgrade. However this is a partial quote from the FAQ. "If you decide to install Windows 7 on a PC running Windows XP you'll need to do a custom installation. This is sometimes called a "clean install" because it will erase your hard drive and set up your PC from scratch" But at no point did I see anything in the FAQ's that said you could install to a blank hard drive. So I'm thinking that either way you look at it this is just an upgrade no matter the way you choose to install it. And everyone please read the FAQ's if you currently have Vista. On a similar note I know why Microsoft offers studends the chance to get the Office Suite for free or cheaper if they are enrolled in a University. They do so because they want the students to get used to and prefer it. This will benefit their economics in the long run. But as for Windows 7 I'm inclined to agree with shrimply that this might be just an upgrade.

Just prior to Firefox putting a block on Windows Presentation I disabled it. Naturally I didn't get a warning and still don't. I'm glad you posted this because I'm sure it had many people wondering what was going on.

I think you're right shrimply. If all your ports and settings are right and the ones suggested appear to be the right ones I'm at a loss. Feel free to do as you want. Hopefully someone will know.

Hi ste; Can you tell us the make, model and number of your PC or even the mother board. With that information someone may know or be able to look up the beep codes.

Never mind. I finally found one. I finally found a parts store. I had to drive over twenty miles but I found one. Everyone sells computers and a thousand repair shops around here but only one parts store.
