  1. So you took the CPU fan off? did you plug the cable back into the motherboard - sounds like the PC is freezing due to heat build up - did you put compound mixture under the CPU heatsink (do not try and do it without posting back on here first please) you can check the CPU heatsink fan though
  2. Can you please also try and be specific about the RAM when you post back in terms of make and model and size of the RAM you have and what OS you are using and the GPU and PSU too :)
  3. lol - note to self 'read all of thread' :D Ad - aware is still good and very quick :p
  4. And spybot is  Lets be honest these programs are all limited in terms of what they do, its all down to preference.
  5. I need to get into PCs as a job :D I am so much happier doing that - anyone have any jobs in Manchester lol
  6. you mean the box bottom left that says allow or cancel? you can also right click on the item and goto properties at the bottom it says run as administrator and tick the box apply and Voila! ;)
  7. just sounds like the driver that you installed was either incompatible or you didnt uninstall the old one ;)
  8. Ok first things first Antivirus - get AVAST its free off their website for HOME USE - they send you a key and it lasts a year and you just request a key every year if you decide to keep it - again for malware and spyware use AD-AWARE - again the older versions are free. You have to go into C:/ program files/ AVG and delete the whole file - then you know its gone!
  9. ok thats good so you have the faster speed - get another and you will notice the difference
  10. Done - is the one thats in 533 or 667
  11. Dont know - sure its on a PCZONE disk
  12. I am sure the older ones are freeware??
  13. You need to have a look in the laptop book - it will say what memory that its does support and the capacity it supports too, 2GB is quite alot for a laptop unless its brand spanking new. in the laptop book you basically just want the highest speed to gain the performance benefits. one stick of faster speed is better than 2 sticks of a slower speed (unless it's dual channel) ;)
  14. ok, can you try uninstalling the graphics card driver from safe mode and restart
  15. Winrar in my opinion, is by far the best! :D
  16. Used to vote AMD all the time, they have really dropped a boll*ck on this one, buying ATI has just killed them - ATI were struggling to keep up with Nvidea and AMD bought them on the 'proviso' that they could use some of the ATI technology to build on board graphics chips for GPU's actually a chip like a CPU that sits on the MOBO - I have been keeping updated on this for a long time and they have well and truly messed it up. I reckon within 3 years they will be gone - 'mark my words' Did anyone see the 4X4 setup they were set to release and intel brought out the Quad core and they pulled it back not to get embarassed lol How much did they spend on production and testing and all that - it was ready to be sold and they cancelled all of it, thats the sort of thing you cannot do if you are the underdog in the market! Rant over lol :D
  17. Long topic - uses too much system power, takes over your whole system, and is basically *****E compared to the likes of NOD, its like the Microsoft of the AV and firewall market, people use it because its 'big' people in the know use other programs. All I use on 'occasion' is the Ghost program, but am slowly moving to the Acronis route ;)
  18. Glad the system restore worked  for future reference - always make some form of backup and DO NOT rely on system restore - it is always advisable to have 2 HDD's if one goes up the swanny then you have the other to install an OS to if needed, also if there are any things that you want to keep and never lose (pics and videos etc) burn them to DVD or CD when you need to (advisable to have them on a flash drive and when it gets to capacity of CD or DVD burn them) Flash drives are available everywhere look on kelkoo or a big pc site (scan.co.uk and microdirect etc)
  19. Hi Cameron and welcome to free PC help. Ok first of all have you installed anything new recently? have you tried going into the BIOS and clicking 'run optimized defaults' from what you are saying it sounds graphic card related, and could be the result of a new driver?
  20. ok first off this is for a laptop yes? according to pc wizard the memory you have at the moment is much slower than the one that you posted in the second link. laptop memory is very 'awkward' to match up and sometimes is not happy with 2 sticks that are different.
  21. Hmm - not an easy one to diagnose - some ppl (me included ) turn off system restore - it is NOT the be all and end all if something goes wrong, and has you have experienced doesn't work all the time (In my opinion Ghosts are much better, not sure if there is a post on this but will upload one if not), and in the mean time uses valuable disk space :D If you cannot get into any of the accounts then you may to install an OS
  22. Flair, Sorry just re read this thread and it sounded nasty on a second read - (not my intention) if there is indeed a problem with the HDD and the clicking is there then chances are the arm will be sticking in the HDD and a system restore could just be enough to kill it once and for all -
  23. If the drive is knackered the last thing you want to do is a system restore - you need to get the info off first and then do it - if you do a system restore first and it f**ks it up then you have lost all you wanted to save.
  24. Not always true, I have seen loads that the drive can start clicking and messing up hanging and whatever, and last for another year or so or 1 day - if its an intermitten problem with the HDD there may still be time to get the info he needs off before its knackered.
  25. It does sound like the HDD is broke for lack of a better word  it sounds like a clicking noise when its breaking, can last 10 seconds or 10 hours lol you could buy another HDD install the OS on that and then 'try' amd retrieve the info off the other drive - If you can get into safe mode - you can save what you need to a USB drive they are about £10 for an 8gig one now.
