  1. Warren - if you need this let me know, but as posted in previous threads the BIOS is a very 'fragile' thing - if there is no major problem then we do not recommend updating the BIOS - I am glad that this problem is now sorted and as Goku said if you need help again you know where we are :D
  2. Just found this thread and as it's late here thought I was seeing things, and nearly fell off my chair - Did I see that SETH is using VISTA  well it's good to see that more and more people are making the 'dreaded change' lol
  3. No, if you are running a 1:1 ratio it is CPU 1066 and RAM 1066 if its 1:2 its CPU 1066 and RAM 533 you are after 1:1 for the RAMS full speed - if you read my AW9D MAX and Q6600 thread it makes more sense
  4. If you can buy an OEM version - it's all you need, but some companies are a bit 'funny' about selling one without a major piece of system hardware ie a HDD or MOBO or CPU -
  5. This is known as 'throttling' and normally happens when the memory isn't functioning properly. please run memtest and come back to us
  6. Ok I know that this sounds daft but are you 100% you have typed the key in correct, they are case sensitive and dots and all other characters need to be included also.
  7. ok run the ethernet cable again and restart the MAC - any joy? I am not the best person to advise on MACs - but if you bear with us I will help as best I can
  8. Hi Claire, Please list what router you have. have you tried running an ethernet cable from the router to the Mac to see if that pics the network up.
  9. ME is a very old and outdated. I would strongly recommend investing in XP HOME at the very least, and if the PC can handle it get Vista home basic.
  10. What CPU are you running? putting the CPU: DRAM at 1:1 should make the memory run at the same speed as your processor which I would have thought is a 1066Mhz CPU- if not return it to the 1:2 as the double data rate of DDR2 would be 1066 anyways - just wanted it to run at 1:1 so that its more stable. 1:2 is really for an older CPU thats all
  11. I know this is an after thought that would have helped ;)
  12. It basically sends and receives twice as much data as single channel - imagine (no laughing please :D) (Single Channel) - a normal road you go up one way and down the other. (Dual Channel) - a dual carriageway - 2 roads up and 2 roads down
  13. I noticed that the monitor you are using is a 1680x1050 - are you running the game at this resolution or smaller - thats alot of screen for that graphics card - try 1280x1024 and see if things improve ;)
  14. Can you change the FSB RAM to 1:1? manually? the voltages can only be set by manually doing the setup so the FSB and the multiplier etc - leave them all on auto and see if you can get the FSB RAM at 1:1
  15. Definately sounds like a heat issue - if you take the side of the case off and start windows - leave a game playing and check that the fan on the GPU is turning and also the CPU - after 10 minutes or so just before it normally crashes - reboot and go into the BIOS and display the temps that the board reports.
  16. I have also seen this SETH, but not on a TOSHIBA - they are normally on budget laptops to keep costs down
  17. The slots will hold sticks of 2GB - whether it will use all 2GB is the question - when you start the laptop I would not be surprised if it only sees 512MB. I know I have joined this late on but - did they match the memory speed of the 2 DIMMS?
  18. Right - this is not an easy one - look on your memory makers website and they will post the timings for your memory as its PC8500 should be running at 1066Mhz - if you have a 1066Mhz CPU you can either set the memory devider to 1:1 or manually change the RAM settings to 1066Mhz. But in doing the latter you have to manually set the timings to what the website says and the DDR voltage too. 5-5-5-15 and 2.2 volts <<just checked on the site for you.
  19. There is an option in the BIOS that says 'holt on' then there are loads of options - I have mine on everything other than keyboard.
  20. And if there was a worldwide nuclear war they would be the only things that survived ;)
  21. Daddy longlegs have the most poisenous venom of any creature - but they have no way to inject it. Dunno where thats from but apparently its true -
  22. I would buy 2 batteries so you have one spare ;) some places charge extortionate prices for these batteries - look somewhere like a wholesaler to get a good price - I have seen places wanting £3 for one of these and off the net they are like 20p
  23. Ok so is the battery in or not? you could do with going to setup and there should be an option saying 'load optimized defaults' and then SAVE and EXIT BIOS (you must have the battery in, in order for the info to be saved)
  24. Hi Warren and welcome to free pc help. If you take the side panel off your case at the bottom of the motherboard there should be a battery (round one found in watches and clocks) if you pop the spring bit next to it, it should fall out - try and reinsert it and boot the system. see if you get the same error - you do not have to have a battery in but it will not save any settings on the BIOS without one inplace. have you taken the battery out recently or moved any of the jumpers?
