    If you are looking to play 'console' games then you really need to invest in a wired 360 controller - think they are around £10 now.

    The most cost effective way is a new MOBO - I would say thats the most common component to fail. But just to make sure - use the PSU on another PC first just to rule that out

    Do you have any SATA ports on your mobo? if so disable them via the BIOS - you stated that you are using IDE drives - are they all IDE or do you have a mix of both?

    In terms of offering advice on server OS's there are dedicated forums for them elsewhere. Most of the members we have require general help and guidance. I for one have a server in my house, but I have never seen a question here based on one.

    Yeah he didnt take my advice and opt for the ANTEC case - saying that I have a Lian Li, but if I didnt I wouldnt choose a second rate case as Matt did :D

    This is normally only done on a new build and you are lucky you didn't end up with a corrupt OS. Glad its all sorted :)

    Have you set the first boot device to HDD - and are you sure that all the MOBO drivers were installed correctly - including the chipset ones?

    DVD+R is meant to be better for compatibility, I only use DVD-R and never had an issue with compatibility

    I use FRAPS for taking videos of my gaming - If my friends cant get past a specific point in a game I have - what better way than a video of someone doing it :D

    Yeah - you are not in a good position - as AVG could be the only thing at the moment holding it back - If you didnt have a Virus on the machine, I would advise removing AVG and installing Trend - but you cant do either at the moment. We dont normally recommend it, but I would install Trend and then remove AVG and restart.

    You would need to kill the process before you could delete it. AVG is shockingly bad AV - I would suggest you have a look at new AV software

    LOL - its just a caes of, you could be there for hours messing around with the gubbings and still find nothing wrong, with the price of LCD and CRT monitors, its not worth it.

    Green light and then a red light appears:- Wiring on case wires to MOBO wrong - ruled out MOBO toast - not ruled out PSU toast - not ruled out BIOS chip toast (More likely) - this is an easy process to add a new BIOS chip although sourcing and cost of one is more expensive than a new board. Most BIOS chips have protection on them to prevent the above. Are you 100% positive ALL the wires are in the correct place?

    Spot on - You may want to consider the possibility of using the onboard sound, as I am guessing it wont be used that much in the first place. Onboard is fine if you are not gaming. In regards to the GPU - the 4870 is more than a match for CAD, trust me on that one ;)

    Its also a good idea to take the case off the side of the PC and see if it is unusually dirty in there as a build up in heat will make the PC shutdown. Just DONT use a vacuum to clean it, use a can of compressed air from any good pc shop or etailer and use in small sharp bursts as not to cause condensation build up on components

    Some software does what you describe - its an inbuilt feature to stop copyright, HD used to have to be seperated into 2 sections:- AUDIO and VIDEO and obtained seperately, most software stops the latter :)
