  1. John, a USB to PS2 adapter will not work - you need a PS2 mouse.
  2. Are you using a powered hub? If you are then they are reknowned for not working with devices - unplug the hub and try the device just in the port at the back of the MOBO
  3. I cannot see that pic at my current location Shrimps
  4. Shrimps - I have no idea what you mean the 3 cables sometimes are all linked to one - but you should not need to use all 3. just the black one is for PC -
  5. Shrimply, The Red and White are for dvd players and amps etc - the black one is for PC's - the black one should go in the front audio port and the other 2 are for if you used them as entertainment speakers for say your TV or DVD etc, and as such - do not try and plug them into the soundcard
  6. Well if you have enough money lying around to throw at it then fairplay - but there are no OS's capable of using it till windows 7
  7. I am still not convinced that the Price over the performance of 2 dual cores Vs a Quad and thats without the MOBO price - even if you get 2 2x3.2 chips - they still wont run as fast as a Quad @3.3 simple as that, and they use far more power. whatever you decide - whack it all together and run a benchmark and then post it ;)
  8. The worst one I have ever saw in person - was my old IT Director - he came in after 'shopping' for a new MOBO and CPU and he bought an AMD board and an Intel Processor - I couldnt help but laugh when the MD was slating him infront of my office lol Just because people work in a specific sector does not mean that they know about all aspects of it ;)
  9. You must be out of your mind - I GUARANTEE that my QUAD runs faster than any of the AMD offerings that you are looking at - If you are seriously looking at something futureproof - you need to look at the INTEL route - and as for GPU's 3 GPU's offer very slight benefit over 2 - You can get a Q6600 to 3.3GHz per core if you OC it and run it on air. Save yourself a **** load of cash and go for a quad setup - dual CPU sockets have been dead for years mate. Since the old AMD Opterons.
  10. To be honest those cards are old and budget so it really doesnt make any difference which one you choose - if the 6200 was fine for your needs until it stopped working then as you say get another one of those
  11. We cant help with passwords but we can slate retailers :D I personally would look at someone like ebuyer for a laptop they are good and cheap but as for the support - you know where we are :)
  12. Optiarc dvd/cd players I have had a lot of dealings with - most of them are ok - what do you expect from Sony and NEC ;) BUT as you have Vista it should automatically get the drivers needed - uninstall the device driver for the drive and then reboot and it should find it for you, you can also look here Sony NEC Optiarc
  13. The Motherboard may not support 2GB RAM - but it should if there are 4 DIMM slots - the timings do not normally need adjusting unless you are using 4GB of RAM or more. I would say that one of the DIMMS are faulty - this is very, very common - remove one of the newly installed sticks and see if it boots - if not remove the other one and see if it boots. Have a look for your RAM on the CORSAIR website and MANUALLY set the timings and the Voltage in the BIOS If you are unsure how to do any of the above then please let us know
  14. Ok - post back and let us know what she says Do you know the make of the laptop and then we can start looking for solutions if you cannot recover the disks?
  15. Ok - if she no longer has the disks - the best bet would be to buy a new Operating System disk - BUT you then need to install the Operating system and if you have none of the disks that came with it some of the drivers are hard to find - Get in touch with whoever gave you the laptop and ask if she has any of them.
  16. Q6600's are notorious for not liking some MOBO's - search my thread on Q6600 and AW9D MAX and see if it seems similar - from what you describe - I think that the Q6600 is incompatible with your MOBO - a flash of the BIOS to the latest version may do the trick, ask your friend to do it if you are not too sure. I basically had the same problem and needed to buy a new MOBO and sell the old one

  18. Did the lady - give you any disks with it?? when you boot it does it say recovery console press 'r' for example?
  19. What you have described seems very odd - so you have 2 drives:- C:/ Main drive still ok (OS installed) D:/ Secondary drive not working fully (OS installed) Have you tried booting from D:/ just to see if it does work? Take the C:/ drive out and try it - If you are not too good on pc's then make sure that you set the BIOS back to EXACTLY the way it was before
  20. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  21. The problem that you have is that the OS - is picking up another disk with an OS on it and from that you cannot extract information over - you need to turn the drive into a simple (I think) volume in disk management -
  22. Are you trying to boot from that HDD and then move the photos - or are you booting from the other drive (the one thats not broke) and then trying to copy the files ??
  23. I have never heard of a PC that popped the RAM out and then in again at will  The fact that if you keep pressing the power on and then off again indicates that the MOBO is tripping and faulty, this is most often caused by a badly constructed PC and someone that has used the wrong size standoff's or a screw that is caught somewhere causing the MOBO to shut down if it arcs.
  24. Glad it's all sorted :)
