  1. Hi Nev.....Thats how I got the information about the drivers listed above. No + x red or yellows in evidence.
  2. Drivers :- _NEC DVD_RW ND-4550A HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8164B
  3. Top drive has DVD rom written on it,one below it has DVD super multi recorder written on it. PC is a Fujitsu Siemens scaleo. How do I find the make and model number of the drives?I have a drivers and utilities disc but obviously its currently useless.
  4. Nah......still doing it.Audio plays occasionally.Tried a Sony registration disc for a TV I bought ages ago........Shut the pc down again.Bugger. I did get an error message pop up for a Nikon View 4 program I no longer use. When I tied to delete the program I just got a cannot find specified file message.Any clues?
  5. Thanks for all your help Nev,really appreciate it.I've now binned AVG and downloaded Avast. Many thanks guys.
  6. Sorry Wolfey I'm not quite with you here. I've re read post 4 from Nev and it contained this line..."Can you also make sure you post the log from Malwarebytes for us to look at too" P.S.I've know gone back to the new restore point and the music disc is playing again. Not sure I'll risk the monitor installation disc again though. Many thanks.
  7. Thanks Nev......Have now completed steps 1-5. First thing I did was insert a music disc.....it played..Eureka! Enboldened I tried the installation disc for my new monitor...PC shut down again. Tried the music disc again........shut down again.

  9. Ok step 2 completed. How do I post the log from Malwarebytes?
  10. Hi RandyL I'm following the step by step guide posted by Plastic Nev. Now on step 2.....I didn't purchase anything during step 1. Being born in Yorkshire I'm allergic to anything purchase related :)
  11. Thanks Danzil and Plastic Nev. I've disabled Spyware Guard. Not sure I've disabled AVG,instructons not as clear with AVG. Got as far as step 1 which found 706 errors.Prompted me to download and buy,or fix 20 errors.I opted for the latter. Now onto step 2.Many thanks guys.
  12. Many thanks Tootech.....I downloaded but after restarting I'm still on 1280x1024 resolution.Guess I'm going to have to stick with it lol.
  13. Thanks wellies....I did that earlier today and downloaded the latest update from NVIDEA.It looks a little better(or am I just getting used to the format lol)although it still isn't giving me the native 1600x900 resolution.
  14. Thanks Tootech.......it says Default monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache.
  15. I have AVG running. If a drive is a slot where you insert a disk.....then I have 2..In the second one it doesn't shut down, but the disc doesn't play either. My usb devices seem ok.
  16. Following on from my Monitor thread, where I coundn't install the manufacturers disc without my pc shutting down,I tried a music cd to see whether that played or not.It didn't.....my pc just shut down as soon as I inserted it.Any ideas guys?
  17. The next size below is the one I'm running now 1280x1020
  18. 1600x1024....again barely legible.
  19. 1024 and the text is barely legible.
  20. Auto adjustment always recommends 1600x900 setting.
  21. Goes from 800x600 up to max of 2048x1536 Currently set at 1280x1024. Monitor is widescreen 20" and shows pics slightly squashed.Doesn't seem as clear as my old 17" monitor. If I change settings to 1280x960 the pic looks crisper but I get a huge black strip either side of the screen.
  22. The last hardare addition was NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache.....It tells me the device is working properly.
  23. No....What does that involve? Max resolution 2048X1536
