After visiting the ALT.NET Open Spaces Conference in Seattle Scott Hanselman followed through on one of the open ideas there and created the ALT.NET Geek Code page.* After selecting from the list of processes and tools you are given a code.* Code which can be expressed in text like so: IOC(SM):IOC(CW):IOC(Nin):MOC(RM):MOC(MQ):MOC:MOC(!?):TDD(NU):TDD(Xu):TDD(Mb):SCC(Svn):SCC(Git):SCC(TFS):SCC(Lame):SCC(Gmail):ORM(NH):ORM(SS):ORM(L2S):XPP(++):DDD(T+):DDD(+):DDD(!?):JSL(Jq):JSL(MS):JSL(p+):JSL(s+):CIS(CC):CIS(psh+):CIS(bat-):GoF(++) That's a lot of text though, and looks*the right time for a little data visualization app built in*Silverlight 2.* This is the story of that little application that could. I've added my first LINQ to SQL Class to my project and have written the related code to get the data using my stored procedure from SQL Server.* Cool and all that. However, I need to add another stored procedure to this project, and I want to use LINQ to SQL Class for that as well.* When I was using the O/R Designer it was clear I could probably have dragged other things from SQL onto the design surface, but I'm not sure if that is the best thing to do or not. So the question is, should I create a whole new LINQ to SQL Class for this other SP, or not? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

I'm curious about the legacy WinFS schema and diagram. There was a humungous image of the entire WinFS schema and a visio document for it as well (lovely visio depiction at that). From a purely ontological perspective, I'm interested in that. Can anyone point me to a copy of those docs? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

I'm generating an XML file based on a bunch of properties in my class, and I'm wondering what's the best way to deal with optional elements or attributes. Say I need an XML file like this: * *** Bas * Let's say that the age attribute is optional. Now, suppose I have a class that defines a Name and an Age property. You could generate the XML as follows: Person person = new Person(); [...] XDocument document = new XDocument( ***new XElement("persons", ******new XElement("person", *********new XAttribute("age", person.Age), *********new XElement("name", person.Name) ******** ) ***** ) ** ); This works fine if Age returns an actual value, but what if it's undefined, or a nullable type, for instance? Is there a way of making sure it only renders the age attribute if Age has an actual value without breaking up that single, smooth block into a mess of multiple if() statements? More... I got off my morning train today to discover a line of at least 15 heavily armed troopers guarding the platform. I'm talking full to the hilt here, automatic assault rifles in hand, .9mm on the hip and .22 pistols around the boot. For some reason my train pulled ontot he same platform as the train that these guys were 'guarding' (even though all the other 10 platforms were available). As 600 people started to disembark from the train onto the platform to make our way into the station and then out into the city, the conductors from the other train began*yelling at everyone. It's not a nice feeling to be yelled at on your way to work by some jerk who is standing behind a line of armed men... All in all, it is a very depressing commentary on the state of contemporary America. And I am Afraid. Also, what is the deal with this new Cyber Crime Device from Microsoft?
