  1. I live in Canada and own a Liteon SOHW 832sDVDRW (version VS0J 2005/07/21). Recently the DVD region count hit 0but i used LtnRPC to reset both the vendor and user region count backto 5. It claims the drive region is not set yet after the patch. I have no idea if this is even related but when i try to play anycommercial bought DVD discs from the DVDRW either Windows XP treats itas a blank DVDR or the drive endlessly spins up and clicks nevershowing the movie. Is this what happens when a drive is still dvdregion locked playing a video outside its region? I am able to play CDs fine and can read DVDRs (data files or burntregion-free movies). But actual commercial DVD movies arent playinganymore. I've tried things out in safe mode but same effect. Thanks for any assistance.* Oh I have Kaspersky and SuperantiSpyware installed. More... 5. If I disable Aero, will I gain a performance increase? Aero, is nice and all, but I use a computer to work and don't really care if the windows are transparent. Does Aero itself eat clock cycles? I found this on the interweb, but don't know if it's true. Can someone clarify? http://ms-os.com/Themes/AlmostGlass/images/icon-quote.gif Some Internet Forum User wrote: Aero is accelerated and on just about any proper DX9 level card (or higher) its faster and uses less CPU time than the old GDI type interface on XP. Disabling it doesn't improve performance at all, it anything it makes it worse. Gaming is unaffected by Aero. There really is NO reason to remove it other than the simple fact that you might think its unattractive, which few do. Is this true? If so, then why does aero perform so horrendously on anything less than a dual core machine? I guess the real question I am asking is, will my pc perform better if I disable Aero? More... 6. Hey all, I''m working on a GUI application for Windows Mobile and I'm having trouble detectomg input on devices with QWERTY keyboards (HTC and Samsung models). Two questions: A: QWERTY input works "under the hood" in standard windows gui components, but in this application we create own GUI and thus we directly handle the basic Form.OnKeyPressed and Form.OnKeyDown events. The data sent to the event handlers don't seem to contain correctly mapped key codes for QWERTY keys with or without modifiers... What is the "canon" way of detecting what the QWERTY keys actually "intend" to send - ie. intended character taking into consideration pressed modifier keys such as fn, caps, shift etc. B: Is there any straight forward way of detecting whether the device has QWERTY capability and/or is in "QWERTY mode"* (ie. keyboard slid out on slide models?) The size is really quite small but nonetheless functions will feature this jewel. http://i27.tinypic.com/30b1mbd.jpg The DiNovo Mini is bigger than an Ipod 3 G and slightly more fat a Nintendo DS. The batteries which is included in the package must be inserted within the keyboard and should remain in charger for 4 hours ensuring 1 month of continuous use (to be true?) When you lift the lid of plastic immediately notice the beautiful lighting that can change and vary according to use. http://i28.tinypic.com/293vqz6.jpg We can decide to exploit clickpad like a touchpad on any notebook or make it work style joypad pressure of a console and it is very convenient for the Media Center and play some title without even having a separate joypad ( obviously not binding titles). ** Regarding the classic left mouse button is found on our left just below where our thumb going to fall and we just below the two directional arrows that allow us to scroll web pages in a great way, then there are commands for turn the volume up the volume, a video or go forward or backward without using the clickpad BEST Keyboard for surfing web tv, Media Center , MSN ;D GREAT ;) More... 11. Hi, I am trying to integrate an application with Sage line 50. I have managed to add sage as a linked server via ODBC. I can query all the tables using openquery but not using the 4 dot notation. I get an error when I try and do this about incorrect column mapping. It also doesnt show the tables in the linked server when I expand the node. Does the driver just not support this way of doing things? Thanks, Alex More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  14. Point #1:* Microsoft has certainly never received any money from me for using Internet Explorer. Point #2: Just make the browser do everything so I can please stop listening to people whine about what IE doesn't do and firefox/opera/whatever does.* Just do it already. ___ So here's the deal.* They don't seem to get much for money from IE so I'm not sure why this would make any business sense, but I wish MS would grab some extra resources and just make IE king of the bloody mountain already. Is this really so hard?* Does it come down to the fact that there isn't any money in it?* So often they seem to do just enough to get by.* I know some people think it is cool to be anti-microsoft and what not, but listening to it just gets old and some times I just want Microsoft to buckle down and punch somebody in the mouth. A first target for a right hook?* I'll leave that up to a general vote. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  19. Alright, I actually have very little knowledge of PC hardware. I just go with whatever people tell me to buy (with of course some little research). What are your suggestions on upgrades (if I wanted to spend less than $800)? I'm looking at upgrading mainly memory, CPU (if needed), and GFX. These are my specs currently: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Asus A8N-SLI mobo 1GB Corsair PC3200 Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT (PCI-e) 2 HDs, (40GB 10k and 300GB 7.2k) I'm wondering how important it is to upgrade the CPU because that would indicate a mobo change. I also don't know the benefits of DDR2. I will definitely bump up the memory to maybe 2GB. Thoughts? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  20. hi, what's the best approach of using a small sql server database with my asp.net application? I have seen that i can bundle the mdf with my application under app_data. this gives me some trouble with file permissions and database being read only and stuff, but afterwards the database is bundled with my solution directory so my friends can just copy the whole tree or get it from source control and the database automatically gets mounted when i start the database explorer or the web application. or is it better to just bundle sql scripts and everything to set up the database with my solution so that every developer has to set the database up in his local sql server before starting developing. what are your experiences here? whats the best way to do this? thank you More... 23. I recall reading several years ago that Microsoft might remove WGA from Windows XP in the future as it ages and they release new operating systems. Since Microsoft is determined to kill Windows XP, is there any chance that they will remove WGA from Windows XP to make it easier for those of us with licensed copies of Windows XP who will not upgrade to Vista to continue using it? 24. Let it be no secret that PHP disguists me to no end. (Not really, but I'd just like to not have to learn YAL). So I've seen Volta and Phalanger and there appears to be potential for some interesting synergy. Volta can compile CIL to JS whilst Phalanger can compile PHP to CIL. So Volta makes you platform agnostic on the client-side, but still hangs onto .Net on the server-side, as I understand it. In the cases where you wished you could've used .Net on the server-side, but could'nt, you may wish you could target PHP with*CIL instead of targetting CIL with PHP. It is probably not at the top of the agenda, from Microsofts point of view, to make CIL and libraries platform agnostic, though. But for some small subset of libraries, it would be interesting to be able to deploy .Net applications on PHP server-side systems. Here's to hoping someone has done, or will do, this - with or without Volta. :) More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
