How does Windows perform on ultra low cost PCs with less than 2GB of storage? Mark Light and Bohdan Raciborski from the Unlimited Potential Group discuss the challenges and opportunities with flash-based storage and getting Windows XP and Office 2007 up and running—surprisingly quickly—on this new class of devices, including the Asus Eee PC. Well it was a no brainer that Adobe would eventually drop support for 32-bit Windows.* John Nack goes into great detail to explain why the Mac version of Photoshop will still be 32-bit (Adobe plans to complete the transitiion in Photoshop C5). He already knows that his reasoning is not likely to appease some Mac users (just look at the first comment on the page), but I remember thinking 'Oh bugger ... Photoshop' when Jobs announced that they were dumping Carbon, so for me, this is very good news. And for someone like me, who complains about Microsoft slavishly clinging on to backwards compatibility, this has been a good hard look at the flipside .... I wonder if MS will be announcing similar plans? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Hi all, I have recently started working with WCF and wondered what others thought of the technology and if anyone had implemented it yet on a live system and their experiences. My initial thoughts: Very flexible Very powerful configuration and security model Errors messages can be*a bit cryptic* Configuration manager looks a bit "Beta" Not sure I like the config file structure but maybe its just getting used to it. Some of the books on it are already out of date grrrrrr! What do you think of it? Alex More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction for this. What I want to do is create an application that while installing, connects to the internet and gets the newest version of the files (the entire program) and installs it. So bassicly the users local version is just an application that connects to the internet, downloads the new version on my server and starts installing that. I really don't know where to begin here... Any ideas? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Bruce Kyle of Microsoft and Stuart Celarier of CheckFree explore the new languages features in C#. It's a whirlwind tour of the important language features since C# 1. Stuart describes the feature and why it is useful. But doesn't get into best practices nor suggested usages. Just the facts about the feature. Whirlwinds are bite-sized webcasts, each is shorter than 15 minutes. You can start anywhere in the series to learn about the parts you're most interested in. Part 6 is about anonymous types and extension methods. Extension methods are static methods that can be invoked using instance method syntax. Anonymous types are used without you having to name the type. These features are part of C# 3 in .NET 3.5. The Wikis on the current C9 don't get used much - I was wondering what's going to happen in v4? I was thinking that maybe C8 and C9 "share" a wiki - saves the two having seperate wikis (I think C8 would make more use of a wiki, but this is of course less work and less maintainance). More...
