  6. An item that precipitates voiciferous debate usually is internet browsers. Given the limitation of HTTP, or better still, the fact a browser was originally invented for text, why has someone not created something simpler yet? Presently, you need to jump through hoops just to get an amazing looking site. If its asp then you use XHTML, CSS, Visual Studio, Javascript, XML, Silverlight, SQL...yada, yada, yada. If the browser was never meant to embed videos, surely it would be easier to create a new architecture now? We are cleverer now, let me rephrase that, more experienced now so as to avoid the pitfalls of the aforementioned architecture. If MS can procure IronRuby, IronPython, C#, F# (.NET in general), is it beyond them to create a new browser? Instead of this boilerplate plumbing web developers spend trying to sort out. Anyone that enjoys javascript is a sado-masochist. Yet this is the bridge Volta is trying to fill, using a scripting language. Whatever happened to VB script? Why was this not developed and choosen instead of Javascript? Why has the open source community not innovated in this space either? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  8. Hi guys, I seem to be having a crappy day, I can't figure anything out!! lol I have an app that has a WCF service. When a message arrives via my service, I fire an event called NewMessage() In the event Handler, I want to open a new WPF window to display the message contents. The problem is, the event is obviously not firing from the UI thread, and therefore my handler cannot create a new window. However I can't do a Dispatcher.Invoke, because I have no object on which to call the dispatcher if that makes sense? How can I achieve this? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  11. Alright. I have had it. This is the most uneducated ( socially ) forum crowd I ever seen. Now you come following me into Techoff*, attacking me personally in almost every post. This is some sort of weird new age "witch hunt". I guess my friends in my class was right. No wonder this place only has a very few active members who post. These members have turned Channel9 into their own private club. Attacking on a personal level*anyone "new" who wish to be around here. Some said "You need to get the respect of the users first", how about you respect the new users who just are trying to learn instead of acting like the mob. When you said a lot of people get banned here, I should have seen it earlier. It isn't anything wrong with "a lot of people" but it's something wrong with the "few" in here who feel the need to "ban a lot of people". You can have your club. There are a ton of Tech sites out there. I don't need this crap. To those who helped me with my questions in Techoff*: A big thank you! Goodbye and Logout ! More... 12. so here it begins, what would you want to see in the next version of Visual Studio? - replace Start Page with MSDN reader or something very much like that - improve searching inside Visual Studio, maybe for big projects put an indexer to index all source file, anyway just improve search speed - spell checker for comments there was something else but I forget what already :) More... 15. Mornin! I have been asked for this feature by several users of mysoftware: when my software is running, how can I prevent users from gaining access to thewindows system behind it ? (its an epos system) * I thought about killing explorer.exe, but will that have anyrepercussions on the system? * Also, it seems that if I do kill explorer.exe from my code,it re-starts itself. * Basically, users should NOT have access to any other part ofthe system, except my application. * Any ideas? EDIT: The app is obviously fullscreen, the problem is if users hit windows on the keyboard (or OSK) then the start menu pops up.... More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  16. http://www.examiner.com/a-1203637~Voting_Goes_Smoothly_in_Most_States.html Some votes were apparently lost, however, when about 20 folks at a Chicago precinct were given styluses designed for touch-screen machines instead of ink pens. When voters complained the devices made no marks on their paper ballots, a ballot judge told them the markers were full of invisible ink. "After 20 people experienced the same problem, somebody said 'Wait, we've got 20 ballots where nobody's voted for anything,'" said Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen. Officials were trying to contact the voters; Allen said both the voters and the judge believed the invisible ink theory. Not sure these are the sort of people you want voting anyway. More... 18. I just acquired a TrackIR 4 Pro, a cool little device that allows you to use your head to control the in-game camera in many games, including Flight Simulator (which is what I bought it for). It works like this:*a tiny little device (a bit smaller than your typical webcam) sits on top of your monitor and tracks three infrared reflections from a thing which you wear (I've attached it to a baseball cap, which is the suggested method, although you could also attach it to e.g. a headset). The result is awesome. It tracks all ways in which you can move your head: yaw, pitch, roll, left/right and up/down. A small movement of your real head can create a large movement of the "game head", which is completely configurable as well. In this video*I fly a traffic pattern in Flight Simulator using the TrackIR. It only really shows yaw and pitch but let me assure you that if I move my head forward, the view moves forward, and that if I were to tilt my head, the view would tilt, even though I don't do that in the video. It gives you a little bit of motion sickness at first when using it*but you soon get used to it. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  20. Is there any way to get a handle on the windows used for floating sidebar gadgets? That is, ones which aren't pinned to the sidebar itself, but floating elsewhere. 24. I am indeed back. I won't go into what I had to do to get back onto C9. I'm just not ready. What an ordeal. Let me tell you, you don't want to be in my shoes. It started out innocently enough. I was watching this On10 video, where the word "high-end" was either spoken or on the post for no less than 15 times. I was going to leave a really smart-arse comment, you know? But I needed to log into On10. But who of us really know our C9 passwords. No sweat, I thought, I'd just reset it & login. Apparently, the password reset feature is coming in V4, so, hang on to your browser cookies. Talk about karma, right? I will never try to leave a comment on On10 ever again. More...
