wpf grid syntax is badly designed
NewsBot posted a topic in Microsoft Products Support & Discussions
The wpf grid layout is a great control. It allows for flexible resizeable UIs and lets the framework take care of the sizing issues. for example, let's assume you want a gird like this this gives us a (not uncommon) layout like this (apologies for poor ascii art) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Some Label* ||Another Label***** ||+----------------------------+| |Line 2 Label||Another line2 Label|||*** ***** ||* |**************************************************** +----------------------------+| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ where the textboxes resize horizontally with window size and list box resizes in both directions. This is great. However it's not so great when you want to change something. For instance I show this GUI to my boss and he says " great, but can you put a title on the first line and a graphic to the left of the rest". Fine, I say, I'll just add another line and another column. but here's the problem. I now have to go through my entire grid and increment every row and column number. There must be a better way than this?? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds -

Microsoft Quarterly Profit Up 79 Percent Windows Vista earned $4.34 billion Microsoft's earnings shine Microsoft’s $16 billion in revenue is a company record. The company’s client unit–think Vista and XP–had operating income of $3.36 billion on revenue of $4.33 billion. For the same quarter a year ago, Microsoft’s client group had operating income of $1.84 billion on revenue of $2.58 billion. Translation: For all the whining about Vista folks are buying it. Enterprise sales are strong with Microsoft’s business division and server and tools unit posted double-digit revenue growth rates. The business division–Office, Sharepoint etc–in the December quarter reported operating income of $3.18 billion on revenue of $4.81 billion. Microsoft’s server and tools business had operating income of $1.72 billion on revenue of $3.28 billion in the December quarter. Microsoft says it is seeing “healthy demand from both businesses and consumers in the United States and our growth in emerging markets is especially strong.” Xbox 360 console sales hit the 17.7 million unit mark. That’s a lot of units for a relatively small profit. In the December quarter, Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division had an operating profit of $357 million on revenue of $3.06 billion. But Microsoft’s online services division–MSN etc.–still isn’t making money with a second quarter operating loss of $245 million on revenue of $863 million. More... One of the very useful features of Visual Studio is Intellisense. C# and VB programmers have come to rely on this mechanism as a one of the means to being highly productive when using VS as their dev tool. VC++ developers have not been afforded the same luxury as their other (managed) VS counterparts. Why? Well, for one thing there are big technical challenges to pulling off highly performant and accurate Intellisense for a VC++ code garden. You can imagine why given the complex*structure of C++ programs... Here, we meet Senior Developer in Test Arjun Bijanki who has been working on the VC++ front end compiler team for his entire career at Microsoft (as you'd expect, the front end compiler team owns Intellisense...). How does Intellisense work? What are the challanges of implementing a truly useful Intellisense for VC++? When will VC++ developers get a great Intellisense experience in Visual Studio? What's the current state of the art and what's the future hold? Tune in. (Dan Fernandez joins in the conversation - this is Dan's first appearance on C9 as an interviewer (it was actually his first day on the job. Not surprisingly, Dan asks some very good questions.))
