1. I do not know much about Macs but from the evidence you have given, my opinion would be that the drive is dead and will need to be replaced. If it was a simple firmware/Driver issue it wouldn't have gone slowly. But wait until someone with Mac knowledge or otherwise can comfirm this before acting upon it :) I also understand your situation as a student, we're not made of money during this time in our lives :D
2. Hey Paul, try these steps: Go to your Control Panel, Open up ''Sounds and audio devices'', Click the ''Volume'' tab, Check the box next to where it says ''Place volume icon in the taskbar'', Click ''Apply"/"OK'' Your volume icon should be back in the Notification area aside of your clock. Hope this helps :D
3. Hello Dutchman, Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help :D Glad to have you with us!
4. I shall look now for you. May Ia sk why do you require a HDMI output? And are you aware that a HDMI output Graphics card will not carry sound?
5. Hello Adam, I'm afraid to tell you that it will not. Your Motherboard specifications, listed here, state that you have 1 x AGP expansion slot and 3 x PCI Slots. The card you are looking at is a PCI-E, which differs from a standard PCI slot I am afraid. If you want to know what to look for, look for either an AGP or a PCI compatible card, just not PCI-E
6. Are you describing this as another problem? if not, sorry for the misunderstanding :P
7. This maybe a stupid question but when you say it worked, you say that the auto run appeared. When you put in a different CD, have you opened My Computer to check if it has recognised the CD in the drive on there?
8. It may be old Goku, but I think the saying "If It Aint Broke, Don't Fix It" applies here :) As long as it runs well enough for what you want then there's nothing wrong with it :D
9. Let's not start this again :P LOL, I wonder what CM would say if I emailed them with your comments and views LOL, annonymous ofcourse ;)

11. Not sure if this helps, but here is a Global Contact Us page I found for RBS: Contact Us But as usual, they only allow online form entries :P
12. I agree with scott here, sorry Barry :P But as Alfa has claimed to use hotmail mainly then I see no problem in switching over to another browser as hotmail is not browser specific :)
13. Lol yes the seasons seem to be quite bi-polar recently :P I also have a friend in perth but don't contact him as much as I should do :( a long lost friend from High school. as for skiing, it is my dream to move somewhere with the alps close by or canada. as I absolutly LOVE skiing, and then in the summer when the snow melts, I am a huge fan of mountain biking, so they seem to be my perfect places to live :) An update of the UKs weather sees the snow disappearing sometime tomorrow night :( sad but glad to see it go :P
14. Lol Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, Carol Post away and we'll try get your problem sorted for you ASAP :)
15. Sorry scott, you beat me too it :P I'll leave this up anyway unless you think otherwise? Okay, I have looked around for a spec for your system, This is what I propose: (All Prices Have Been Rounded UP To Nearest £) CPU: - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - Scan.co.uk - £145 Graphics Card: - Sapphire HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out - Ebuyer.com - £175 Hard Drives: - 2 x Western Digital WD800AAJS 80GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 8MB Cache - OEM - Ebuyer.com - £33 x 2 = £66 RAM: - OCZ 4GB (2X2gb) ddr2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Platinum Memory CL5 - Ebuyer.co.uk - £60 Mobo: - Asus P5Q PRO P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer.com - £108 PSU: - OCZ Stealth XStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready ATX2.2 12cm Fan - Ebuyer.com - £56 Sound Card: - Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Soundcard PCI-Express - Ebuyer.com - £44 Operating System: - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit - SP1 OEM - Ebuyer.com - £89 Optical Drive: - Sony DRU-V200S 20X DVD-RW DL & DVD-RAM Serial ATA - Retail Black & Silver Bezel & Nero - Ebuyer.com - £17 CPU Cooler: (I am not a big fan of stock coolers) - Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler - Ebuyer.com - £17 Total: £669 Amount remaining: £131 I have left out a case as that is really a personal perferance thing as to what you like the look of etc. So I shall leave that for you to find. the only things you must stick to is that it should be a full size tower, that takes ATX motherboards. As for your media remote issue, I do not know exactly how your current one works and so I am hoping to leave this spec open for anyone else including yourself to take a look and post your views and opinions. :)
16. Okay, well you can still use other broswers, Have a try with Internet Explorer and Firefox, If you like one of them more than your current choice then stick with it, it wont make any difference ot your bill or connection :) as for your problem I'll look now and see what I can find, I only asked as I am not familiar with BT yahoo browser and therefore not too sure what options are avaliable to change on it. Another option is to download Firefox, or set IE as your default broswer [ask fi you need me to explain how] Then try clicking the button for new mail again and see if it opens fine in the new browser, then we know it's a problem with your BT yahoo browser.
17. Is there anything specific to this browser that you need/use? As I wouldn't recommend using your IPS's browser and would recommend standard IE, or even better, FireFox
18. Okay, what browser are you using?
19. Hey Niglee and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. What version of WMP are you using? Have you tried uninstalling it and installing the latest version, and if it is the latest version, have you just tried reinstalling it?
20. Okay, please take a look at the Edit of my previous post, above Wolfey's and tell me if that solves your problem :)
21. Okay, I've included another screenshot to make it easier to explain :) Great things screenshots :P Use the tool outlined in RED to select what you want, so if you only want to show the MSN window, click then tool then click and drag to create a box around the MSN window in the pasted image. Note: You may have to click on another tool and then back on that one to use it. Then go to "Tools" as shown above, and click on "Crop", this shall cut the image down to what you have selected only. - To get rid of information you do not want showing, click on the tool outlined in BLUE, - Change the colour to white, by clicking on the white square in the row of colours, - Then just click and drag the mouse to "paint over" what you need to. As for file size, a simple image such as just a webpage, [a largish square], or the MSN window... [a smallish square :P] will be way under the maximum size once cropped. Hope this helps :) Also, in reply to this quote: That does not happen with me, when I click the image it takes me straight to my inbox on a new tab. It maybe an issue with settings, as I believe I have seen it somewhere. I shall look around and get back to you. EDIT: I have found what I believe to be the solution to your problem :) When you open the "Options" menu as described in my previous post, where the above quote came from, there is a tab called "Security" Under that tab it gives you options about asking to signin in different places etc, I have included a screenshot just to make it easier for other viewers of this thread to understand as you are able to check your own Options window quite easily. When the outlined option is ticked, it will ask you for your password on every site etc that requires it. If unticked, like mine, it should automatically take you to your inbox, or whereever you wish to go, without asking for a password once you are signed in once. [To MSN Messenger] If this has solved your problem, then there is no need for your screenshot :) but if you post it before seeing this reply then no worries, you can always manually take it down later if you wish to.
22. Are you looking for free, or paid for programs?
23. Can you please take a screenshot of this? And please also include the URL that appears in the Address bar along the top of the Browser when on this page. If unsure how; 1) Click on the page required [i.e. the web page that displays this Hotmail message]. 2) Press the "PrintScreen" or "PrtScrn" button on your keyboard [Normally top right]. 3) Click "Start", then "Programs", then "Accessories", and open "Paint". 4) Once open, press "Ctrl" + "v" to paste the screen shot. 5) Save it as a ".Jpg" or ".Jpeg" file. 6) Come back to this page, click on "Post Reply". 7) Scroll down until you see the "Manage attachments" button and click it. 8) Click on the "browse" button and find the image you saved just. 9) Click on "Upload" 10) Post your reply with any neccessary text in the text box as usual. NOTE: Please make sure that no Personal Details or Information is showing on your screenshot, or it will have to be removed for your own safety. You can rub out or "paint" over any personal details or info you may not want showing after step 4 of the above proceedure by using the tools on the right side of the screen. Apologies if you already knew this.
24. Does this mean you are going to use the same HDDs? Or do you require HDDs in the £800 budget? What else can you salvage from your current PC? IF you intend to do that. such as PSU, case, etc. You do not have to keep anything but obviously the more you do the more we can spend on other parts :)
25. By a "Hotmail box" do you mean the signin window for MSN Messenger? this:? http://avyaya.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/block_msn_windows_live_messenger.jpg This is the MSN Messenger sign in window, if you would like it to appear on start up you have to change the settings. To do this on the New MSN Messenger, click on the menu button on the right (shown in picture) then go to Tools, then Options, as shown below. Click the "Sign in" Tab and here you can select it to start up with windows, and also to stop the welcome page from appearing, as show below: On this menu too, is you click on the Alerts tab you can change and set which alerts to see when you're signed onto messenger. Also, to check your emails when you sign on a popup should appear such as this one: And also on your contact list it shows you how many unread emails are in your inbox, displayed by this image: Is this the kind of thing you meant? Hope it helps.
