Any other ways of upgrading memory?
DirtyPolo replied to NUFCAC's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
To answer your original question NUFCAC You currently have 1GB of RAM, and you would like to upgrade it? this is taken directly from the Compaq website, located here. Memory: - Two 184-pin DDR DIMM - Maximum memory size is up to 2GB, 1GB per slot (the PC manufacturer's recommended maximum memory may differ) - Supports PC2700/PC2100 This shows that yes, you can upgrade your 2 x 512Mb, to 2 x 1GB sticks if you so wish, just make sure they are either PC2700 or PC2100 Hope this helps. :) -

No problem, glad you got it sorted :)

Okay, In that window, please click on "Make a new folder" And name it "Quick Launch" Now try to enable quick launch again, if it still wont work, try rebooting your PC and trying again. Upon failure again, browse back to this location and check that the folder you made is still there.

Well if it comes down to it, that maybe the best option. As if you were to replace the Motherboard, you would also need to buy a new copy of Windows XP, which would mean, backing up all of your stuff to an external HDD or similar. Depending on how much you want to spend on a new pc, compared to the current specs of this PC, we'll ahve to let you know what the best option would be. But that's only if it comes down to it. I'm out of ideas, but maybe someone else has some more ideas on how to resolve your problem ;P Alos, when you tried another monitor, did you use the same cable for both, or a different one? If the same, does it work fine on another system? as there could be a chance that there is a break in the monitor cable.

No, I wouldn't do that, as we want that program off your PC :P and chances are it will cause more problems when you uninstall it next time. Seeing as that didn't work, can you click Start, then Run and type in the following without quotes and press enter: "%Appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\" There should be a folder called "Quick Launch" Can you confirm this?

after having a look around it seems that quite a few Geforce 6100's have the same problem, Is your machine still under warranty? As it seems that a new Graphics card may be needed, or in the most drastic cases, a new Motherboard. But you don't want to go delving into the case, changing parts if it is still under warranty
-
Can you please check in Device Manager as BeeCeeBee says and check that you do indeed have the Nvidia Geforce 6100 Graphics card, it should be listed under Display adapters or similar. To get into Device Manager, - Right click on My Computer - click Properties - select Hardware tab - Click on Device Manager ,
-
Uniblue appaears to be a driver scanner, am I correct? In Which case, although trusted as BeeCeeBee said it appears, we would not recommend using 3rd party programs to check your drivers. It seems that your PC might be in a bit of a sicky situation, I'll have a look now to see if I can find any answers or solutions for you, and hopefully others can too :) Edit: Okay, first things first, let's get your quick launch back. - Click on Start - Then click on Run - Type in "IE4UINIT.EXE" without the quotes and press enter Nw try to enable your quick launch again, does it work?

Windows 7 to xp and recovery
DirtyPolo replied to michau's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I agree with Wolfey on the CDRom route, as also, not every system will elt you boot from USB, most do nowadays, but if it's not a relativly new laptop it might not have that feature. Is this exactly what it says on the CD? As I expect it would only be the recovery console on this CD, which would then use a hidden partition in your system set up by Samsung, to restore your XP should anything go wrong, but once you've formatted the Harddrive, you wiped everything off it including the partition. Wolfey's reply below is the best option, as you will have to reinstall windows XP all over again, and to do that you need to purchase a new copy from a retailer. -
The fan's job is to blow the hot air away from the componants through the vents in your case or else the hot air has no where to go. To have maximum cooling, you need to make sure your vents in your case are nice and dust free, and that your fans are also not clogged up with dust.

Hey guys, I am in need of a free technical drawing program. It only has to be basic, but just need the ability to basically draw lines at certain lengths, and to add text, thats about it. I need it to draw a few logos on for a college project of mine and need it to automatically add the dimensions onto the drawing. If you still dont understand see the below image for an example of what I need it to do. http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/exterior/trim/window/casing_pvc/window_top_casing_gif.gif (This image was just taken off Google so no relevance to what I need, just the features of the program)

Okay, when the PC wakes up again, can you do the following steps: - Go to "Control Panel" - Click on "Administrative Tools" - Then "Event Viewer". - Expand the "Windows Logs" folder on the left side, - Next click on "System" From here you can see the computer going to sleep and waking up, and so see what it's running on wake. Please try to identify what the PC is runningwhen it wakes up, or just reply with a screenshot so we can direct you where to look. I apologise that this problem is taking such a long time to figure out, but it is a common problem with Vista and there are many, many different solutions that work for different people.

Okay, lets try this step again, now that we have sorted out the USB Printer problem. Can you please follow these instructions and post a screenshot of the results. - Click "Start" - Type in "CMD" and press Enter. - In the box that opens type in "powercfg lastwake" and press Enter. Below is my example of what you should see and what I would like you to reply with: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/attachments/windows-vista/396d1235404780t-sending-sleep-cmd_lastwake.jpg NOTE: Notice that I had USB\ROOT\HUB listed. For me, this would be the USB wireless mouse. Your list results will vary of course
