  1. I have no expertise with analysing hijack this logs where others may. However what does stand out is that it appears that you are running 2 separate Anti Virus programs at the same time. If that is true you may want to go through everything again running only Avast.
  2. Doug I have run into Doctors in my life who I would not trust with a hangnail. You have found the PC equivalent and that is unfortunate. That being said, there are also guys out there who are trustworthy, honest and competent. It would be unfair to paint them all with the same brush. For example, if I were even in the same country as Tootech I would trust him, or someone like him, to fix anything I own and know I would get a fair deal. I am not sure I would say the same for the manufacturers.
  3. Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Penguin! You are clever enough the find your way here which makes you clever indeed!;) I hoe[e you enjoy your stay with us.
  4. Welcome to FPCH Stormingnorm! That is precisely why we are here, to help and encourage others to join in. Hope you enjoy our community!!!
  5. Hello again struggling. I am going to tell you how to do a quote but you have to promise not to tell anyone. Copy and paste just as you have done. When it gets in the post box highlight it and click on the little icon to the right of the envelope above the post box. You will see the quote code appear in front and after the line. When you preview the post or submit it, the quote box will be there. Remember this is our secret.
  6. Well Hi to you as well treerat! Welcome to FPCH! :) Feel free to post when you are ready!
  7. Correct bob they are Microsoft downloads and designed to be downloaded through IE.
  8. Yep. Dump the adaware and add the first two spyware/malware listed in the link above in post 14. After that you should be pretty well protected.
  9. SP3 and Automatic Updates Welcome back Strugglling. You really should have asked this in a new thread but because the title of this one is so generic I will just leave it for now. :) The link that Wolfey posted is informational and what others have downloaded may not be needed by you. Please do the following. Go to your Security Center in Control panel and click on automatic updates. I recommend that you allow automatic updates but at very least click on the notify me button. Next go down a bit and click on the Windows Update Website link. You will probably be given the opportunity to have your PC checked for updates. Go through that process and download all critical updates recommended.
  10. The problem you are having is that Dell does not make motherboards and the number you have given seems to be a Dell identifier. If dell does not post the specs it will be difficult to give you the answers but that does not mean nobody here has the info you need. What does it tell you in the POST screen when you boot?
  11. Good Choice Anne, glad it is all sorted for you. You will be far better served. You may also want to consider adding at least one of the antimalware programs.
  12. Hi Jonny, I cannot get into Tootech's link for some reason so I am afraid to comment. Generally you will be ok if you do not try to open the console just burn it. However, what browser are you using as download options appear differently?
  13. Are there any little symbols ! or ? s next to any of them?
  14. Try going to your control panel and click system. Then go to hardware and device manager. Toward the bottom you should see Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Click on the + sighn and see if there are any warnings and let us know.
  15. I hear there is this new group named after bugs. Beetles I think. They may be worth a listen.
  16. I guess you have your answer as unhappy as that may make you. If you have any concerns before you go out and buy a new board or any need any help with it you know where we are. Otherwise please keep us up to date.
  17. Welcome Zoe, :) Most people Join Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help for a reason but many stay and become part of our community. Either way enjoy the experience!
  18. Hello Anjomo and Welocme Since this is your first post I am going to suggest that you start a new thread and give all the details of your problem that you can think of. This is the 20th post on a thread that has already been solved. The fact that your problem is similar is really not a reason to continue here. I think you will find that you will receive better and faster results if you do as I say. Thanks! :)
  19. I am not sure where you looked (msconfig?) and what I am suggesting may have no effect on your web cam problem but at the same time it may. There is no point in having programs that you rarely use start up each time you boot. Disabling them from the start in msconfig will not interfere with your use of them as needed I have seen some of these insufficient memory warnings turn out to amount to nothing. Try going into your system tools and doing a disc cleanup. I am not a vista user myself but you may have to select run as an administrator. Also look into add and remove programs and dump any unneeded toolbars such as google, Yahoo etc.
  20. Your best bet is to wait for Tootech to return since he is best able to sort out a means of checking which is most likely. He is here fairly often throughout the day. Just keep checking back.
  21. Before anyone starts looking into serious problems it may be a good time for you to go into your msconfig and take a look at what you are running at startup and do a general disk cleanup.
  22. That is spectacular!! Finally a "hijack" that has come good.
  23. I am sure it will and will give some food for thought with other games I'm sure. Thank you again!!
  24. :o Sorry bob12a, the Bob I was referring to Wolfeymole. You did not hijack your own thread and Mara is incapable of doing something so dastardly. ;)
  25. Since the monitor works we now know that we are probably not missing anything that would be visible on the screen. Unless there is a physical problem with the connection (doubtful) the problem is probably either the motherboard or graphics card. There are a few ways of trying to break it down but even if the problem is pinned down it isn't going to be fixed or replaced at this hour. I would suggest that you wait for one of our hardware specialists to come on in the morning or later on. Please keep in mind what I said about doing a cold shut down. If the fans are quiet you are better off letting it run.
