hp printer not working with vista
BeeCeeBee replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
In order to simply rule out the obvious, are you certain that the new printer is the default printer or at least that it is the selected printer when you hit a print command? -
The real shame is that we are living at a time where such headlines are commonplace. Of course we are not far removed from a time when next of kin were not notified for days and even weeks after after a tragedy.

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help! Has he ever connected to the Internet using that router and laptop connection? Do you have the wep key for the router and, if so, has it been entered on the laptop? This thread really belongs in our network forum and is being moved.

On behalf of all at Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I express my sincere condolences on this tragic loss. I know that you will do the right thing and bury it in its beloved caddy and not simply separate it in death from its true home.

It would appear that Livebox is only a name for a series of routers used by Orange. You will need to look at any label for a model number and possible manufacturor

Shrimp I am going to make a suggestion that goes down a different route. I travel a lot and got tired of carrying my laptop with its 17 in screen around and considered doing just what you are thinking about. Then I found the greatest case with loads of pockets to organise my work stuff and even room for snacks on the plane. The best thing is it looked cool and professional and HAS WHEELS!! Mine is leather but I have seen some really nice cloth ones too. Once you stop carrying stuff around you will never go back. Just a thought.

:) JaZz you may well be right. As I said, we have some good people here to advise you and mine was just an observation.

Hi Bob, I think I am beginning to get a feel for what you are doing and the problems you are having simply by reading back to previous threads and piecing things together. To begin with you have to change some downloading habits that I think you have acquired. Stop saying yes to anything and everything Google and pay very close attention to little boxes that are already checked. Very often the "suggestions" you get when you download (often in the form of an x already in a box) are unnecessary to the program you are downloading. (You do not need to download a google toolbar along with every program. In fact you do not need to download it at all.) The same holds true for icons and task bar icons and allowing everything to start when you boot up. You just need to be more discriminating in what you allow and not assume that if it is already ticked it is either good or necessary. As for your current problem I think I know what has happened. You are using Mailwasher that, if i recall, directs your gmail to it and removes it from the gmail server. You then have some Google desktop program that is seeking to find your gmail while at the same time mailwasher is diverting it to itself. I simply suspect that you have programs working at cross purposes. I would agree with Randy that you had best stick to just checking your email on your own and ridding yourself of much of this excess. You have to find a way to streamline and simplify. The firewall screenshot you submitted has not even gone a quarter of the way down the navigation bar. I can only imagine what else is there. This is not meant to be critical Bob and you are far from alone in this. Google alone thrives on all its inclusions with other programs.

Copying Updates Between PCs
BeeCeeBee replied to Nichos Dad's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
As usual my FPCHelp library keeps expanding each time Goku comes on.:o Thanks for the heads up! Following Goku's advice is always worth the effort Neil. -
This is a question for others but normally the minimum specs are there for a reason. The fact that the game loaded ok is not very meaningful as it does not require many resources to load. There are some good hardware and gaming people on Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and you will just have to be patient and wait on their advice. Off hand though I would say that the difference between a 3Gig cpu and a 2.4 is significant.

Copying Updates Between PCs
BeeCeeBee replied to Nichos Dad's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Just a quick note. The code that you are getting does not seem to show up on the Microsoft Database. Was that a copy and paste or is it possible you may have it wrong? -
Welcome Neil and G'day!! :) Glad to have you with us.

What firewall are you using Bob?

Issue with connecting to IE 8
BeeCeeBee replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Is this a wireless connection Jonny? It is quite possible that your PC is still recognising your old connection and is trying to connect to it. Before trying anything difficult first click on the network icon in the task bar near the clock. Then select view wireless networks. In related tasks you will see a button labeled "change the order of preferred networks." Make certain that the one that you are using is first. If your old configuration is still there and you have no intention of using it again simply delete it. -
It shows that you have the icons set in properties for those folders where there are graphic files in the folder. This is not a glitch and can be changed back by right clicking on the folder and going to customize.

Kelly may be on to something. While I have never built a PC I have factory built hundreds of servers. Improperly seating DIMMs or memory sticks is a major cause for initial failure. I would suggest that you remove and reseat any DIMMS regardless of whether they look ok or not. Never insert them one end at a time. Always equal pressure. If there are clips make sure they are fully closed. Hopefully it is something that simple.

Agreed!! Just a shame it is Christmas. Do not lose hope though. Just keep checking back here from time to time. Someone just may know. I hope this does not ruin your daughter's Christmas. -
Hi James At 12:14 you reported success with one problem. At 12:19 you posted this. Are you running into a string of bad luck. If you suspect malware, you should run our full anti malware program and hopefully that will solve the problem. Your computer could be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode" On the left hand side, Click on Tools Then click on the Resident Icon in the List Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button. Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives. Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so. __________________________________________________ STEP 4 Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download) Accept all defaults for the installer Allow the program to update the definitions Click on the Quick Scan and click Next. If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 5 Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. If required this is the download link for TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Please follow the instructions here How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows Vista

new toshiba satelite laptop will not boot up
BeeCeeBee replied to sparky12345's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok I do not like giving advice where I am not qualified but I did look in the bios (XP System) and the only thing I can find that may be meaningful is in advanced. Be sure that wake up on keyboard is enabled. Otherwise keep watch on Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help for some real expert advice. I will say this. If it must go back to Staples insist on a new machine. You should not have to send a machine that has never booted for repair. Otherwise just insist on a return and buy it elswhere. I doubt if staples has any in store expertise. -

new toshiba satelite laptop will not boot up
BeeCeeBee replied to sparky12345's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I am not a Vista user and have no idea if what I am going to tell you is correct however I have read elsewhere that a flashing cursor is not that uncommon with new Vista install. It has been suggested that the sleep settings in bios should be checked. I have seen S3 suggested. Again. this is strictly from an outside source. -

BeeCeeBee replied to sparky12345's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If this is the very first attempt to boot and you have never used the lappy before I would suggest that you use the product recovery disc that comes with the Toshiba. While this will wipe all data and start over with a clean system, that should not be a problem if there is nothing of yours (or hers) on the machine to lose.
