  7. Hi Dirty Polo, I just wanted to jump in here and offer what I hope you will see as a compliment. I have been following the progress of your build from the beginning hoping to learn something and I have. I and probably others are rooting for you! What you are doing, running things by Dalo as you do and not giving in to temptation is just what we hope all our members would do. Whether it is a project like yours or the need for a solution to a problem, the temptation is always to just try a few things while we are waiting. Giving in to that temptation usually end in tears! So GOOD LUCK! GOOD WORK! Can't wait for the report the first time you log on from your new build.

  11. WELL DONE NEXT YEAR:first:
  12. Hi Bill Welcome Back! Before we get into this in the dark, you had a problem the other day that was left hanging. I have no idea what, if anything, you may have done to affect the system. Do you still have the same problems in addition to this new one? You must have done something if as you say the "computer runs great". Let us know and we will be glad to help out.
  13. Hi Andy, Can you give us an idea what steps you took to protect your PC from re-acquiring whatever caused the need to re-format in the first place? Did you thouroughly scan all of the files and data that you would have backed up and saved before copying them back onto the hard drive?
  14. There are others on line with far more expertise in this area then I have. My advice is to do nothing except wait for that advice. I am sure it will be forthcoming.
  15. No get the drivers before you format and put them on a CD. Follow formatting instructions and install the drivers. If you wipe the hard drive without the drivers you will probably need to get go to another PC to download.
  16. I fear that you are doing it again! IF you have the right drivers and you are sure. Why are you trying to reinstall them on an already corrupted OS? You were asked to get the drivers in order to properly format your hard drive and not be left in the lurch without the necessary drivers. If you are not sure if you have the correct drivers then by all means ask and make sure. But trying to simply install them without following directions doesn't make sense.
  17. Please let me stick my two cents in here. Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help really does do what we say on the tin. This is not an attack on you but we have seen time and time again where people only read or follow portions of the advice given in the hope that will do the trick. It almost never does and even when you think it has it hasn't. It is always a good idea to look at the experience of the person who is giving you advice. Look at Seth's, Randy's and Wolfey's for example. They will not have you do anything just to keep you busy. It is frustrating to spend time trying to help and then be "outguessed" by the person seeking help. I was much the same when I joined Idiots. I have learned a lot from that experience hope you will as well!!
  18. Hi idiots, I have no clue what you you may have deleted based upon that statement. Based on nothing other then that quote from you I would suggest that you go to Microsoft Update and make sure that you remain up to date. If you happened to delete any important system file that probably will not find it. Have you rebooted since these deletions?
  19. I feel that I have to add a word of warning here. There are many large poker sites that spend a lot of money on security and for the most part do their very best to keep you safe. It would be very unwise to assume that is true of all or most sites. Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help never recommends or endorses poker sites. It is up to you to do your research in choosing what if any sites you wish to go to or download software from. Personally I would make security my major concern in choosing a poker site and not be swayed by deals being offered to join.
  20. Hi Janet Just plug the filter into the wall and run your lines as you are doing. So it would be main jack, filter, wire to in wire out to PC. That should do it for you.
  21. Glad we could be of help to you Bates!!!:) As for the malware I would suggest do it sooner rather then later as it is always safer to be sure you are staring off clean. Then if you have a problem later you will know where you should start looking for problems and have a good retore point. Anyhow I am glad that this has been resolved and your problem solved !:D
  22. I have not Goku. It does work fine in firefox but I will try and let you know because I am aware that there is another member interested in this problem. Thanks
  23. :D And a welcome to you Hendy from County Clare!! Glad you have joined us here at Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and invite you stay around and become a real part of our community!
  24. Hi Bates If I understand correctly you have reinstalled XP and the PC is running ok except for the browser issue you mention. If that is the case you seem to be describing a problem that is being caused by some form of malware that has been downloaded. The best next step to take is to follow the following steps to rid your PC of this infection. Your computer most likely is infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode" On the left hand side, Click on Tools Then click on the Resident Icon in the List Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. You can also download it from Majorgeeks.com When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button. Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives. Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so. __________________________________________________ STEP 4 Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download) Accept all defaults for the installer Allow the program to update the definitions Click on the Quick Scan and click Next. If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 5 Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. If required this is the download link for TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Please follow the instructions here How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows Vista
  25. Dalo is not here at the moment but may be back later. I would strongly suggest that you leave things until the mobo arrives or Dalo says otherwise. Applying decals to the outside of the case is probably pretty safe.:D Seriously, most everything depends on the motherboard and there is probably very little to be accomplished without it.
